The First FDC student dialogue essay competition (Academic year 2013-2014)
If humanity, at the threshold of the new millennium, devoted all efforts to institutionalising dialogue, and replacing hostility and confrontation with discourse and understanding, it would leave an invaluable legacy for the benefit of future generations. v Purpose: University level students (MA and PhD) are invited to participate in the 1st FDC annual dialogue essay competition sponsored by Swiss based Foundation for Dialogue Among Civilisations (FDC), which is in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The mission of the FDC annual dialogue essay competition is to encourage the University level students as emerging writers, scholars, public servants and future practitioners to promote dialogue/dialogical approach for solving national and international conflicts.

v Questions: University level students (MA and PhD) from all over the world are welcomed to compete in writing of an essay in which, they have to provide rationale and advices for political leaders and respective societies on how dialogue/dialogical approach could be used to accomplish one of the following aims: To solve a specific national or international conflict For conflict analysis and prevention For mediation and conflict resolution For post conflict peace and stability operations For religion and peacekeeping For preventing conflict and enhancing peace and harmony among different races, nationalities and believers who are residing in a multicultural society.

v Eligibility: The competition is open to the University level students (MA and PhD) enrolled for academic year 2013-2014. Submissions can include papers submitted for a related course in the University or pieces written specifically for the competition. Essays must be the work of the submitting student without substantial editorial input from others. Co-authored papers are ineligible. Only one essay may be submitted per entrant.

v Format: Submissions must be in Microsoft Word and in English language. The text of the essay must be Times New Roman and double-spaced pages, in twelve-point font, with one-inch margins; footnotes or endnotes should be single-spaced, also in twelve-point font and with one-inch margins. Citations may be embedded in text or set out in footnotes or endnotes and should conform to the current edition of the Uniform System of Citation (Bluebook). Submissions may not exceed 20-25 double-spaced pages (minimum 4000 and maximum 5000 words) exclusive of footnotes and endnotes. (At the discretion of the Section, the winning student may be asked to prepare a shorter version for inclusion in the FDC website news.)

v Entry Procedure, Terms and Conditions: Each submission must include two cover pages: The first page should include the following: Essays title The entrants name, Mailing and email address of entrant, and phone number Year of study at the university, Name and address of the University and related department, Name and contact number of the related adviser in the University. The second page should be a cover page that includes only the title of the paper. The contestants name and other identifying information, such as University name, MAY NOT appear on any page other than the first cover page. Entrants must email an electronic copy of their submission in Word format to FDC. Entries must be received by 7 pm Eastern time on March 1, 2014

Staff of FDC will assign a random number to each entry. The selection committee will know neither the contestants identity nor his/her affiliated university. By submitting an entry in this contest, the entrant affirms that the submitted essay is his or her own original work, never been previously published and grants license and permission to the FDC staff to edit and publish the work or part thereof. Publication will be at the sole discretion of the Section and the Editors and Editorial Boards of FDC publications. NOTE: It is essential to emphasis on the importance of adhering to academic rules and regulations regarding copyrights and plagiarism by all contestants. Therefore submitted essays are subjects to checks before judgment and should they fail the check the essays will not be presented to the jury.

v Judging: FDC selection committee will judge entries anonymously based on the following criteria: Creativity and clarity of the proposal or thesis Organization Quality of the analysis and research Grammar, syntax and form

v Awards: First place winner will receive $5,000 cash. Second and third place winner each will receive a $2,500 Cash
