The Karni Sena was founded in 2006 by Lokendra Singh Kalvi, son of the late Kalyan Singh Kalvi, the former Union cabinet minister who led a massive Rajput agitation against the Sati ban following the Roop Kanwar episode in 1987. Lokendra, however, has failed to match his father's stature.
