“You don’t need talent but loads of luck with classic racing,” said Dom Herbertson, after winning the Junior Classic TT race on his Davies Motorsport 350cc Honda.
He has a point: just to finish is a bonus in classic racing, let alone winning. And in the Classic TT – with 37 and three quarter miles of the world’s most challenging road test to contend with – the technical challenge to cross the line is almost insurmountable.
However, thanks to the hugely slick engineering efforts of Davies Motorsport, Herbertson’s Honda ‘never missed a beat’.
“It was absolutely amazing. The bike handled like a dream from the word go.
“I was missing gears at one point and don’t know if that was nerves or me being stupid.”
Even days after the end of the event, he said: “It still hasn’t sunk in yet.”
