Following on from the rebuilt motor in the last instalment, I’d elected to fit the freshly re-bored barrels over the new pistons and rings with the engine still on the bench rather than in the frame, and had a chance to try out a new set of gizmos.
If you’ve never used piston support plates, let me tell you – you need some.
Such a simple set of tools, but how much easier they make fitting cylinders to pistons! Essentially, just parallel metal or wooden plates with a slot cut out of them.
