Commentary: Take it from a magician: Trump isn't trying to distract us, he's misdirecting us

Critics of President Donald Trump routinely depict his maneuvers - such as shutting down the government and threatening to close the southern border - as distractions.

"He loves the distraction from his other problems," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has said. Ezra Klein, a political commentator and editor at Vox, goes so far as to declare distraction "the core of Donald Trump's political strategy."
