The Schoolhouse block was often a variation of a house or church pattern. Most featured a side view of the building and were either pieced or appliquéd.
Early in my quilting journey I was attracted to a cute little house block. First I drew the block onto graph paper, then I made templates of each of the required shapes from cardboard (yes, this was a long time ago!). I made the blocks 4in (10cm) square and made six of them. They became the first dolly quilt I made for my daughter when she was two. Stitching that little quilt entirely by hand was a joy.
