Our wild world

At the ripe old age of 55, the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is without question one of the world’s greatest showcases for nature photography. The 2019 competition attracted close to 50,000 entries from the best wildlife and nature photographers working in some 100 different countries.

Reflecting the immense diversity of the natural world, the 100-image exhibition is divided into 19 categories – 16 for adult photographers and three for younger picture takers. (The Natural History Museum champions ethical wildlife photography and its submission guidelines are therefore reassuringly strict as to what photographers may or may not do to obtain an image.)
