CANNABIDIOL (CBD) SEEMS to be almost everywhere these days, available and marketed in a variety of products including drugs, food, dietary supplements, cosmetics and pet products. Yet the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its use in only one product—the prescription drug Epidiolex, which treats two rare and severe forms of epilepsy.

That raises the question: What is CBD, and why has it become so ubiquitous?
