When FT8 was first released only a few short days before the 2017 CQ World Wide VHF Contest, nobody had any idea how many CQWW VHF contacts would be made with FT8, especially on the 6-meter band. With its ability to copy signals as low as-24 db below the receiver noise floor, FT8 was a natural fit for VHF contests as well as for making DX more accessible for hams with smaller stations.
