SILO slumber
Like a leaf of curly kale, Banks Peninsula fans out into the Pacific Ocean south of Christchurch. The small community of Little River rests at its base. Set amongst steep green hills, the village marks the start of the Little River Rail Trail walkway and cycleway to Christchurch, and is close to picturesque Lake Forsyth/Wairewa.
In a world where tourism now contributes to 8% of our planet’s greenhouse gas emissions, we need accommodation for visitors that gives more than lip service to the environmental movement. I’ve come to find out if SiloStay deserves its reputation for eco-friendly tourist accommodation, and I’m curious to experience what it’s like to stay here.
