IMPORTANT CHARACTERS in the Old Testament
Aaron: The older brother and close associate of Moses, who was appointed by God to be the first high priest of Israel.
Abigail: A wise and discerning woman, she was originally the wife of Nabal, a foolish but wealthy man whom God struck dead for dishonouring David. She became the wife of David after Nabal’s death.
Abimelech: Means “my father is king.”
Five people in the Old Testament have this name.
• The king of Gerar who was deceived by Abraham regarding Sarah, Abraham’s wife (Gen: 20:1-18;21:22-24)
• The king’s descendant, also king of Gerar
• The ruler who succeeded his father Gideon by murdering his seventy brothers
• The priest in the time of avid (1 Chron. 18:16)
• A generic reference to Qhilistine king Achish ( s. 4, 1 Tam 21:10-15)
