MY FATHER-IN-LAW (spoiler – he is big in early childhood development, so his words carry extra weight, as does the fact that he delivered all four of his own children) once gave me some very kind and wise advice – your newborn is not there to mess with your head, he warned. No matter how exasperatingly illogical that tiny human is being, it’s the only way they know how to communicate their basic biological needs. They are trying to tell you something. “I’m hungry,” “I’m tired,” “Look at me!”
