Nestled in a tiny village in Suffolk, Dan Carter’s pink thatched weekend retreat couldn’t be further from the “minimalistic, white shoebox” he lives in during the week in London’s Notting Hill, but that’s how he likes it.
“I’d been looking for a weekend home for years. I needed somewhere I could get to in a couple of hours or so, and stay for a couple of days, if that’s all the time I had.” Carter (a former textile designer, turned serial house-renovator) first looked at a regal Georgian house in Diss, but it lacked a garden.
