Used test: 2009 Royal Enfield Bullet Electra EFI AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
The Royal Enfield Bullet has the distinction of being the longest running production motorcycle of all time. Naturally it’s been updated since its first incarnations in 1931, though not quite as much as you might imagine!
Back then, the four valve single was built in Redditch, came in 350 and 500cc guises, and had an inclined ‘sloper’ engine with exposed valve gear. In 1933, a 250 Bullet joined the range, though its rolling chassis was quite different. The year 1936 saw a new option, the JF, with an upright 500cc motor, along with a sports version available to order. In 1947 the Bullet became the first production motorcycle to feature swing arm suspension, and in 1948, 350 Bullets were used by the UK team to win the International Six-Day Trails competition held in Italy.
