ver the past 13 months, Brian Kennell has completed four ready-to-sail builds of his sought-after 12ft (3.7m) Smacks’ Boats and, together with (winner in our recent Awards in the Traditional New Build category) as well as fully retimbering , the 1895 ex-Colne river police boat. Dredging a little into the past brings up such heavyweights as , , , the Kings Lynn double-ended cockler, and numerous Thames barges. It might be difficult to find a major restoration or rebuild on the East Coast that he hasn’t had a hand in.
