    MONTGOMERYSHIRE’S FORGOTTEN 15IN!

    Hidden in the hills of the Welsh borderland is a charming 15in gauge line. Almost half a century has elapsed since the Rhiw Valley Light Railway (RVLR) was established amid the lush Montgomeryshire scenery.

    Far from being inaccessible, this hidden gem is located just eight miles from Welshpool and makes an ideal accompaniment to a trip on the delightful nearby 2ft 6in gauge Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (WLLR). The RVLR lies on the Berriew side of Manafon – about four miles from the WLLR’s Castle Caereinion station.

    “We are the ultimate garden railway,” said Mike Woodroffe, who runs the RVLR.

    “We’re not a public railway – we only open six weekends per annum. It tends to be the first weekend of a month.
