FORMULA VEE: THE CHAMPIONSHIP THAT “TICKS ALL THE BOXES”
Formula Vee, to the casual motorsport observer, may not elicit too much in a word-association test. Perhaps most common would be that the championship for singleseaters with an air-cooled 1300cc Volkswagen Beetle engine and front beam axle, is viewed as a somewhat poor relation to Formula Ford.
Yet there is much more to Vee than that.
For one thing, it has been going even longer than Formula Ford, its championship stretching back unbroken all the way to 1967.Also its recent graduates include British Touring Car star Ash Sutton, Mike Epps also formerly of BTCC, the Ginettas’Jesse Chamberlain and Harry Webb who proceeded to Formula 3. Its champions include Brian Henton and Ian Flux.
And the category, these days under the auspices of the 750 Motor Club, boasts grid sizes that modern Formula Ford can only dream about, with more than 30 cars routine and 39 entered at Silverstone
