1. SLEEP
When students are attempting to absorb large amounts of information, especially when swotting for a test, some engage in a practice called cramming.
This often involves staying up very late and going over the material repeatedly, often by just typing notes into laptops or tablets – aka mindless transcription. The information is stored in short-term memory – not long-term – meaning this technique won’t serve them well when trying to study for their end-of-year exams.
However, if your Year 12 student wakes feeling well-rested, evidence suggests that, as a result, they are likely to have superior mental clarity and focus. They will also discover that absorbing and retaining information is easier.
