Seeing Is Believing: Or Is It?

The “seeing is believing” hypothesis goes back some 300 years,

to the time of Sir Isaac Newton, to be precise. And it’s not that what he had to say was wrong or inaccurate—it was the best information we had at the time—but it did set up a universal belief about perceiving reality and the world around us that has come to affect literally every aspect of our lives.
