About this audiobook

When her husband Kenny dumps her (by cell phone) mere months before their ten-year wedding anniversary, Gracie Pollock finds herself reeling. Though her role as the wife of a semifamous Hollywood studio executive often left her cold, Gracie had grown accustomed to the unique privileges extended to Tinseltown’s power elite: reservations at Spago on a Friday night; beauty treatments by dermatologists (Arnie), manicurists (Jessica), and colorists (Christophe) to the stars; line-jumping at Disneyland with her daughter and Ugg-wearing celebrity offspring. And despite consenting to naming their daughter Jaden in a (failed) attempt to lure Will Smith into one of Kenny’s productions, Gracie believed she and Kenny were different from other Hollywood couples. She never thought she’d be a starter wife. But now that her marriage is over, she’s a social pariah, and it’s only through a faux pas by her world-class florist that she learns her husband has upgraded: Kenny is dating a pop tartlet.

With images of the ‘tween queen everywhere she turns, Gracie seeks refuge at her best friend’s Malibu mansion for some much-needed divorce therapy. Soon she’s associating with all the wrong people, including a mysterious hunk who saves her from drowning, the security guard at her gated community, and—God forbid—Kenny’s boss, one of Hollywood’s better-known Lotharios.

With her signature wit, sassy style, and cameos of the rich and famous—and wannabe rich and famous—Gigi Grazer tackles the most delicious and dastardly details of a divorce and recovery, Hollywood style.

The writing was like some lyrical prose in parts of the book that held me captive. I actually didn't think I would like this book, it wasn't my kind of story line, but I was hooked from the opening pages, and it didn't disappoint. Her symbolysm and anologies I thought were awesome. Yes the ending was too trite for me, but this book was that good until the end, that I can even over look a normally massive failing. All in all, it has become a favorite. I can't say yet whether or not its a favorite that will get reread, but it's definitely one that will be remembered positively, and that I recommend to any woman.

This book starts much better than it finishes. It seems that grazer just got tired of writing so she wrapped it up...pretty haphazardly. I'm not sure why things ended the way they did, and the subplots were mostly left hanging. I think the book is much better as a T.V. series than a book...and a good chance for a do-over on the ending!

Just finished reading this, after picking it up on spec, having never come across the author before. An enjoyable read!

I thought this book was so-so, I read it during all the hype for the USA miniseries, which I thought was even worse than the book

I originally picked up The Starter Wife because I had seen the first two television adaptation episodes on USA with Debra Messing. I bought the book during a layover at an airport and immediately threw the book down after the first two chapters.I picked the book up again because I caught the first episode on USA again and I wanted to give it another shot to decide if I should get rid of it or keep it on my bookshelf. The first three chapters are pretty doggone boring but if you can get past those, the book gets a heck of a lot better.I eventually came to love Gracie, and her daughter, Jaden, and while I’m still confused about the whole Lou situation, it was nice to see someone finally break away from the griping hold of Los Angeles’ high society. A society that I still don’t understand.I hard to believe everything that Britney is involved in with this book since she is now crazy, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. And watch out for Sam. He’ll through you for a loop. All in all, I’m glad that I decided to pick this book up again. It was worth it. And it was a nice way to start my first challenge.

The idea of this book is interesting, but I found that certain repetitions were a bit irksome. Mentioning real celebrities was fun to read and I found it to be an acceptable book to take to the beach.

I originally started reading "Maneater" by the same author, but the book was so atrocious I didn't finish it. I decided to give the author a second chance with this book and was pleasantly surprised. Formulaic to be sure, but well written and entertaining.

Very very good. There aren't word to describe this book. At the beginning, it may seem that it's just the typical Hollywood mush but that all adds to the underlying story. Once you get halfway, you won't be able to stop reading. It's a very easy read and is very enjoyable. The good guy comes out on top in the end.

I watched the series first, and that might have been my downfall. I really enjoy USA's adaptation of The Starter Wife, and I felt that the book - while still enjoyable in its own right - did not live up to the show. It still pokes fun at Hollywood, but I think the tone was more sharp than light-hearted. There were change in names and certain events which surprised me. It also makes me wonder how much of The Starter Wife Season 2 reflected how The Starter Wife Season 1 (a.k.a. miniseries) came to the big screen.

Starts off badly, but quickly turns into a fun, comic fairy tale.

A really good look at what women think when going through a divorce. Plus just sheer fun with the cattiness and nastiness of the L.A. Wives Of....
