- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Gooney Bird is a very unusual girl. She wears bunny slippers, pajamas, tutu's, and so many more weird things to school. But as time goes by her classmates are getting use to her unusual style. In class Mrs. Pidgeon is beginning to teach the students about poetry. But an unfortunate tragedy happens to Mrs. Pidgeon mother Ms. X. The class will need one of Gooney Birds ideas to make things better. I like this story because it's showing that people can be different and that's okay because sometimes we need unique people or ideas to make things better.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Liked this newest addition to the Gooney Bird series. Very funny and touching story about teaching poetry to second graders. Different types of poetry are introduced to the class through the teacher's mother's poems.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This fourth book in the much-loved Gooney Bird series teaches about both poetry and life. Gooney Bird is up to her usual strange and delightful shenanigans, even while she struggles with learning about different kinds of poetry. Although the book deals with the reality of a loved one's death, its pacing and tone soften that blow. This is a good chapter book for early readers. The humor and language also make it an excellent read-aloud book for the younger grades.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Gooney Bird finds thatwearing ruffled underpants on her head warms her brain and makes it work better. Before long, the entire class has joined in as they learn about poetry and create a moving tribute to their teacher, Mrs. Pidgeon's mother.
