About this audiobook

A RITA Finalist for Best Romantic Suspense and Best First Book.

Beth Brown doesn’t believe in premonitions. But her recent dream feels too real to ignore: a commercial airliner is hijacked, and a handsome passenger is shot dead. Beth hasn’t met the mystery man in her dream; she would never forget a gorgeous face like his. But she can’t deny the bizarre connection she feels. Now awake, and unable to allow for the violence she’s convinced is impending, she races to the airport…and comes face to face with the man of her dreams.

Zane Winters lives for his job, using his uncanny psychic powers to carry out missions for elite SEAL Team 7. Yet the constant adrenaline highs can’t drown out the numbness seeping into his life as he yearns to find a woman he can trust. All that changes when he meets a beautiful stranger who sets his soul on fire—and somehow knows he’s about to die.

To thwart the global crisis the hijacking will unleash, Beth and Zane join forces. But even amid the danger, they can’t deny the powerful force drawing them together. Is it merely attraction…or destiny?

The narrator killed the suspense. No way of knowing if the story would be good when her voice made even a possible hijacking sounds boring. Couldn't hake it.

    Review
The plot is exciting and progresses at a thrilling pace with a gritty 24-like feel to it. It should be noted that there are numerous violent scenes and a couple of disturbing moments including one rape scene.

The writing is good and the research well done, especially with regard to the SEALs. Nevertheless, some of the abbreviations need further explanation for those readers who are less familiar with this branch of the US military (HQ1, BUD/S). In addition, there are some unusual transitions between scenes, i.e., a scene ends with one POV and the next begins with a short recap of the previous moments from a different character's POV. While this does not really distract from the flow of the story it is noticeable and unnecessary. Moreover, the ending is VERY abrupt with no resolution to any of the major plot points. Despite this cliffhanger, it looks like there are exciting things to come and it is a good thing the next book will be published as the end of this year.

The PNR elements are implausible and the story would be better as straight romantic suspense as the psychic bond plot device detracts from rather than enhances the romance. It is as if the hero would not have given the heroine the time of day without it. That said, the main couple is engaging and have sizzling chemistry. The hero is honorable, tough and sensitive and did I mention HOT, and the heroine is strong-willed with a good head on her shoulders.

The secondary characters are fleshed out well with a really nasty villain and several sexy Navy SEALS who will apparently be getting their own books - yay! On a side note, there is one important character who was less than appealing to me Mac's misogynistic attitude and his weird attraction for a rape victim is very sleazy and off-putting.

Overall, an excellent debut by an Indie and self-published author. I will definitely be on the look out for the next installment.

3.5-4 Stars I did not expect to enjoy this at all except for maybe the hot men. I am not a fan of military/cop/weapon type stories. This was grabbed me by the neck and dragged me into a story I couldn't put down. I was looking for the clichés, woman does not listen to warnings gets taken away, man doesn't listen to woman gets shot, or the usually stupid woman makes stupid choice puts all in danger just because she's angry... you know it's how 95% of stories go. I was reading and seeing trouble coming and wait what was that and intelligent choice ??? "NO WAY" These characters did not follow the set rules of most other series they used their brains. Yes, brains and even, are you sitting down ?.....common sense. Not once was I holding back a scream of 'OH, come on idiot !' LOL The macho- is there these guys are Navy Seals and they do go over board a bit, but nothing more than you'd expect from real live Seals. There is also a nice little touch of humor to balance some tough scenes.
So- It was action jackson with lusty, sexy scenes and real life drama that entranced me into a world I rarely show interest in. I am reading the next book.

I was impressed with the book up until the end. It should have ended with the main 2 characters. Instead it ended with huge cliffhangers. I don't like books that do the huge cliffhangers. I would have read the next books before that. I'm not sure I will buy them now when they come out. Also it was a very fast paced book. The couple fell in love in 24 hours. Well really for one it was instant. The other 24 hours. That's a little quick. And the book for the most part was only a day maybe two in the life of the couple. Everything happened that quick.

From nearly the first sentence this book grabbed me and took me for a tension filled, no-let-up ride! The psychic connection between Beth and Zane seemed a little out of place with all the threat and terror of the main story but their relationship with all it's special advantages saved the day. Or so it seemed right up to the cliffhanger of an ending.

I don't believe I've ever read a book that kept the tension so high through out the whole story. What a ride! I'm exhausted!

I'm looking forward to the next book to find out what happens next...

This book was really well written. It's very depressing though and I wanted to smack some people cough Ginny cough That's the hallmark of a good book though, it engages you in the characters. I'm torn about whether or not I want to read the next one, I want to read it because I want all the bad guys to get their asses kicked, but I don't want to read it because I don't really like the plot twists the author uses.

Listened for Review/Read for Fun (Brilliance/Kindle)Overall Rating: 3.50Story Rating: 4.00Character Rating: 3.25Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)First Thought when Finished: Forged in Fire was one heck of an adrenaline fueled topsy-turvy ride!Story Thoughts: Forged in Fire was an adrenaline rush that had me on my toes. I really liked the mixing in of "fringe" abilities and non-stop action. Trish managed to pull you in with glimpses of how things could go and then slam you in another direction when something was thwarted. This didn't always work in our heroes favor and I appreciated the not knowing how it was going to turn out. I will admit the story rating would have been higher but the story was kind of left open-ended. The ending just felt a little to abrupt to me!Character Thoughts: Forged in Fire is another case of "I was more interested in the characters coming up than the main couple". Beth just didn't "WOW" me. She was just too "anti" soul-mates for my taste. While I did appreciate her love of the Romance Novel, I just couldn't warm up to her. On the other hand, I really loved Zane. He was Alpha to the core. I kept thinking I missed books about his brothers but evidently I didn't. I think his whole family would be a fascinating read if they are anything like him. Overall, it was the side characters that really got my attention. I can't wait to read their stories.Audio Thoughts: Narrated by Angela Dawe /Length 11 hrs and 24 minsAngela "freaking" Dawe y'all! Seriously if you haven't listened to her read The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley, you are missing out. She is one of my favorite narrators and doesn't let me down in pacing, emotions, and cadence. She seriously probably made me like Beth more than I would have otherwise! A good narrator can do that!Final Thoughts: I can't wait for the next book even if I can't quite figure out when it is coming out!

What happens when 3 hot Navy SEALS plan a vacation to attend their friends wedding in Hawaii? Premonitions, Terrorist, Soul Mates, Kid Napping and that's just for starters. Forge in Fire by Trish McCallan is a non-stop thrill ride. It is packed full of action, hot and steamy romance, mystery, intense friendships, honorable alpha men and not so honorable men. Did I mention the super strong women, well there is some awesome heroines to boot. Forged in Fire is 5 stars on my book shelf. Looking forward to the continuation of what promises to be a great series.

For a debut novel, I would have to say that Trish McCallan knew what she was doing.. Or she knew that it was worth taking a risk to get this story out! I mean think about it.. Hot, melt in your mouth kind of sexy Men in Uniform, a kick butt chick who knows how to hold her own with the big bad Alpha Males & a great story line.. What's NOT to love?!After having the same dream three nights in a row about 3 Seals dying on a hijacked plane - Beth starts to think she's mental.. Especially since this plane seems to depart from the very same airport that she works at. Deciding that maybe these dreams aren't just dreams, she decides to go with her instinct and see if these men really do exists. Imagine her surprise when she gets to the terminal and sees not only the 3 Seals, but every other face (minus the hijackers) that she saw in her dreams. Being the quick thinker that she is, Beth decides to come up with a plan on how to approach the Seals to warn them off, without sounding like a total mental case. Like any rational human being - she decides to tell them the truth.. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? Like I said before, this woman knows how to hold her own and roll with the punches as they are thrown.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "If you two Neanderthals are finished with this useless display of testosterone, I'd like to remind you that the only person who has any say over what I do and who I do it with -- is me."- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Zane is simply amazing on his own. He comes from a family who is both blessed and cursed with this "gift" that enables him to see trouble before it happens. It's a gift because it warns him. It's a curse because it never gives him the right amount of information for him to fully stop it before it gets started. Imagine his surprise when this woman is standing in front of him, repeating SOME of the things that he himself just saw happening. Despite the fact that she's sitting here telling him he just might die - he can't control the man in him that is insanely attracted to everything about her..- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"The connection we share. It will strengthen as we spend more time together. You can deny it all you want, but in your heart you know we are connected. You feel it."- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The plot of this story had me captivated the entire time. I felt like I couldn't get enough. McCallan wrote a story that played to each character's strengths. The connection & chemistry between Zane & Beth was so strong & real that I couldn't help but cheer through them throughout the book. The characters displayed such strong emotions that I felt like I could feel every bit of love, joy, anguish, heartbreak & fear that they felt.He secondary characters are just about as legendary as the main ones. The other two seal members def held their own in this book && we pretty hilarious - even under the most extreme of circumstance. Each one was written with such depth, it's no wonder that I can't wait for the remaining books in this series to come out! I NEED to see where this is going to go! If you love a book that is full of romance, intrigue & suspense, then Forged in Fire is def a book for you!

Take a Navy SEAL with psychic abilities, waiting to board a flight to Hawaii with 2 of his friends when their deaths flash in his mind. Take a woman, in the departure lounge, having dreamt of a plane hijacked by terrorists, with everyone in coach, including 3 Navy SEALS being killed. Take a leak in the FBI, and a plan gone awry and you have a thriller that grabs you by the throat from the very beginning. The action speeds up as the story progresses as does the tension when the plot thickens, and our heroes race against time to find the terrorists and their hostages before more harm comes to them. There was some telekinesis that I could have done without, but it didn't bother me so much as to detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. The cliffhanger at the end has me looking forward to the next in the series.

Beth has a dream about a terrorist group hijacking a plane and murdering everyone in coach. Meanwhile, Zane (who is a SEAL lieutenant commander) has had a premonition about the same thing, and he and his team are the victims. When Beth approaches him at the airport with clues to the terrorists' identities, Zane knows two things: 1. She's telling the truth, and 2. She's his soul mate, the woman he's been waiting 10 years for. One trait in Zane's family is that they all have a psychic link with their true soul mates, and he knows Beth is his woman from their first meeting. He just needs a little time to prove it to her, but a deadly terrorist group who've managed to infiltrate the FBI keeps getting in the way. Zane's hoping Beth will give him a chance, but first he'll have to take on a group of trained criminals and rescue hostages, including a close friend of Beth's.This is NOT a typical romance novel. Zane is not about hearts and flowers and pretty words. He is a conqueror, in his military career and in his personal life. He wants to claim Beth from the moment he lays eyes on her, and he instantly becomes aroused and possessive. Beth isn't sure how to handle herself around someone so sure of himself and so decidedly male. Zane's a tough guy who isn't used to taking no for an answer. However, the real story here is the plane hijacking (or the attempt to do so). Every answer raises more questions as Zane's team uncovers a trail of deception and violence that forces them to act alone, trusting no outside law agencies. It's very suspenseful as the action shifts from Zane's POV to Beth's to the "bad guy." Just when one sub-plot slows down, another one accelerates.I loved this book so much, I ran through the pages quickly. I could not put it down. I deducted a star for its unsatisfactory ending. There's no conclusion to any part of the story, really. The author has announced her plan to make this into a 4-part series, and my guess is that she's trying to hook the reader into buying the second novel as soon as it's released. However, with such a long wait between installments, some sort of conclusion would be appreciated.

Okay, so honestly, I'm still working on finishing up this book. Had a bit of an issue to deal with, and I got behind on getting it read. BUT, with that being said, I'm going to tell you that I am almost done with it and it is AWESOME!!! Ms. McCallan made this book absolutely, completely captivating! From page one she brings the reader suspense, and keeps them hooked throughout. I'm still trying to figure out the whys and the whos of the plot line! Zane Winters' character is TO DIE FOR. Oh. My. God. He's not only super, super sexy, he's the alpha hero of alpha heroes. Oh. My. God. (Yes-I just did say that twice.) He's psychic ability lends just the perfect amount of paranormal aspect to the story and makes for a fabulous read! His instant attraction to the beautiful Beth Brown, is powerful. Watching him with his fellow comrades and then with Beth...well, he's just a character I want to have in real life! Beth Brown. She's such a sweet character! I loved the way she jumped right into protective mode with she realized who Zane, Cosky and Rawls were. The visions she has are more thorough than Zane's. Her main goal.....to save the men on the plane that's about to take off. Little did she know that Zane is her soul mate.....I am absolutely loving the way this story is playing out. The suspense is so intense, and each page turn is bringing something new. The passion between Zane and Beth....OUTSTANDING! I definitely am glad to be able to read this! I can't wait to reach the last page to see what happens in the end. :-)If you are looking for a good romance novel that has the perfect amount of suspense and paranormal elements, then I recommend you look no further than this incredibly written, fabtastic 5 Book worthy novel. You'll be swept away with a great cast of characters who will work their way into your heart and plant roots! I am absolutely looking forward to seeing what Ms. McCallan is going to have in store for her readers with Cosky and Rawls stories...hint, hint, Ms. McCallan! Book Description: Beth Brown doesn’t believe in premonitions until she dreams a sexy stranger is gunned down during the brutal hijacking of a commercial airliner. When events in her dream start coming true, she heads to the flight’s departure gate. To her shock, she recognizes the man she’d watched die the night before. Lieutenant Commander Zane Winters comes from a bloodline of elite warriors with psychic abilities. When Zane and two of his platoon buddies arrive at Sea-Tac Airport, he has a vision of his teammates’ corpses. Then she arrives—a leggy blonde who sets off a different kind of alarm. As Beth teams up with Zane, they discover the hijacking is the first step in a secret cartel’s deadly global agenda and that key personnel within the FBI are compromised. To survive the forces mobilizing against them, Beth will need to open herself to a psychic connection with the sexy SEAL who claims to be her soul mate. My Thoughts: I will begin my review by saying that I hate books that have cliffhanger endings…and of course what did this book have?...A cliffhanger ending! Now, with that said, I will say this… This. Story. Was. So. Good! It was a combination of action, adventure, suspense, romance, and sprinkling of the paranormal. I will not give away in spoilers in this review but I very much enjoyed this story and give it a resounding 5 stars.

I have to say I love reading novels about Navy Seals, this one did not disappoint. It even had a slight touch of the paranormal for those who lean toward those stories. We have Seal Team 7, waiting in Seattle to take a flight to Hawaii for a wedding. Tall muscular guys, all gorgeus, why don't I ever get on a flight like that! Beth our reluctant heroine has a vivid nightmare about a plane being hijacked, and she "see's" some of the victims. It bothers her enough, that she takes time from her job and heads for the gate she sees in her dream. There are the men ! The action starts there, and never lets up until the last few pages. Just when you think there safe, a new terrorist appears, and no one knows who is behind it. There are obvious leaks in the FBI, perhaps Homeland Security, and who knows who else?? That's the big question. That question remains at the end of the book! We are left with a LOT of questions and not a lot of answers except for Beth and Zane. I will be looking forward to Cosky's story in the next installment. This was an action packed, enjoyable read.

5x5The story line for this 1st in a series book is really interesting! It is a great kick-off to what I am predicting to be a great series. You have Zane who is just a fortress of hotness, and he is also a Navy SEAL. He is lethal to those who oppose him a real Alpha male.Beth is a great character also. She is practical yet comes undone when confronted with Zane. The "secondary" characters in this book which make up Zane's SEAL team are amazing! I totally enjoyed them as much as Zane and Beth. Cosky and Rawls oh how I can't wait to hear more of them. They are both excellent characters. The easy banter between the males was very nice. I would find my self giggling at random things they would say to each other. Also, the action in here is just spot on! Keeps you flipping those pages eager to keep up! I am eagerly awaiting Forged in Ice the next in the series!!

My thoughts: Love this book! Finished reading it saying, "NOOOOOOOOOO! It can't be the end!"Trish McCallan has created fantastic characters! If there were really men out there like these we would all spend all our time searching and get absolutely nothing done in our lives. The women are no less fabulous. Zane is the kind of man we all want to meet and Beth is the woman we all secretly hope we could be. The characters are strong, driven, dedicated, family oriented, everything you look for that makes you never want the story to end. The plot is intriguing and clever, suspenseful and action packed. She is truly a storyteller at heart. The story is well-written and wonderfully paced. The pages fly by filled with budding romance, violence, terrorists, kidnapping, betrayal, friendship, desire and fear. I am so excited to have found such a great author and I can't wait for the next book in this series! You don't want to miss this one!

While waiting for the flight that would take him and his friends to Hawaii for a wedding, Zane Winters experiences a vision that rocks his entire world. A vision he hopes to keep from coming true. While his psychic abilities have never failed him, he also knows that things can sometimes go awry depending on the outcome of certain events. When a leggy blonde crosses his path, Zane's instincts are thrown into limbo. Every part of him clamors to make her his, something he's never experienced until now. Yet this fact doesn't exactly deter him from what he needs to do. Realizing that she's a key witness to the events that have been set into motion, even if he can't quite understand how that came about, his protective instincts make him all the more determined to keep her by his side.Recognizing the men that she saw within her dreams, Beth Brown begins to wonder if their being at the airport at the same is more than just a coincidence. While she's never believed in premonitions, she knows that something has brought her and Zane together when the things she's dreamt of begin to come true. She also has a hard time denying the fact that she's very much attracted to him.As she and his group band together to thwart the hijacker's plans, they inadvertently set into motion a chain reaction of events that leave them all wondering whether they'll make it out alive. Even more disturbing is the fact that someone seems to know what they'll do next. Despite this, they're determined to do their best to keep the terrorists from achieving their goal, while trying to keep all the innocent souls involved safe.I was hooked from the moment I started reading. Totally loved how Trish made the action and suspense flow throughout the book. I know that some have said that they felt the romance aspect of the book left a lot to desired, but in all honesty, the way she built up to that aspect made it all the more intense and so much sweeter. This book wasn't really about the romance, but rather about a group of friends that band together no matter what's thrown at them at any given moment. The romance was more of a bonus. I'm looking forward to reading more of Trish's books soon. She's got a great flair for writing. Enjoyed it immensely!

Zane Winters, and his two fellow elite SEALs Rawls and Cosky are on their way to a friend's wedding in Hawaii, being on leave isn't easy and Zane can't shake the feeling of foreboding. But a playful bunch sets off his psychic visions, he gets two quick flashes, his partners, dead, in the plane. And to top that few minutes later he sees her, a woman who's magnetic pull ignites everything territorial and possessive in him - his brothers and father have found their soul mates the same way and now... here she is, his.Beth Brown isn't going to Hawaii, but here she is anyway, events of her dream have started coming true, but the most disturbing, a plane full of people slaughtered by hijackers she can’t just sit and wait to see if it happens... she has come to the gate to see if she recognizes any people from her dream. And suddenly there they are, the three big guys. Suddenly the dream is true, and she has to find a way to stop it.Beth decides to try and convince the three men to hear her as she heard other call Winters a Lieutenant in her dream, hoping they are military. And Winters convinces her that they should play lovers to not attract attention of the hijackers, but Beth feels there's bit more to his touches and embraces than just acting. Before you can spell SEALs things get out of hand and time is against them as they have to a way to protect Beth's dream from getting her in jail, fight to try and get a step ahead of the hijackers, and find out just who they can trust and who is compromised, and it all becomes more dangerous when they realize this is about something much more sinister than just hijacking a plane, there is an agenda and they've yet to discover what the hell it is.I loved this book! McCallan's writing is fast-pace and exciting, you don't want to skip any of it! She built a story world that you can see very clearly as you read, with compelling villains, torn victims and sexy SEALs and not forgetting the main couple - I love books where the man knows exactly what he wants and isn't afraid to be little scheming to get it, especially when it's a woman. Zane was all this! He's hot, seductive, possessive and yet so genuine with his desire to be with her for the rest of his life. I loved that Beth wasn’t the dumb woman getting in the way of people who know how to do their job, she had her own strengths and Zane had his, she didn’t go busting in anywhere and getting herself in trouble for the hero to save – I loved that! Go smart girls! The story flows so easy, you want to keep reading, and even when the POV goes to the villains from Beth and Zane you don't want to miss it. As multiple POV, this book is a success, I especially loved Mac's POV even though he despised women he still did the most heroic thing in my book, in this book when he took out "the driver" ( you'll know what I mean after you read the book ).I could easily keep gushing how great this book was and what little things I loved, what scenes and what moments were superb, but that would ruin the book for you so I won't, but just know that there were all those things! Oh... I cannot forget to mention Cosky's mom, loved her and her book habits! This book is perfect for readers of romantic suspense, good old suspense and those who like their books to have a little twist of supernatural, in this book it’s the visions and a connection between two people that goes beyond intuition. As I mainly read Paranormal Romance, this was still just my kind of book, filled with action, thrills and romance, this one I will definitely go back to when I want a sexy thrill ride with a trio of hot SEALs!I highly recommend this! Get a copy, it's so worth it! Next book Forged in Ice will be out early next year!
