About this audiobook

In nationally bestselling author Boyd Morrison’s debut, the unraveling of one of the greatest archeological mysteries from the bible—Noah’s Ark—could threaten civilization itself in this blockbuster hailed by James Rollins as “a stunning thriller.”

When brilliant archaeologist Dilara Kenner is contacted by Sam Watson, an old family friend who says that he has crucial information about her missing father, Dilara abandons her Peruvian dig and rushes to Los Angeles to meet him. But at the airport, Sam speaks instead of Noah’s Ark—the artifact her father had long been searching for—and the possible death of billions. Before Sam can explain, he collapses. With his dying breath, he urges Dilara to find Tyler Locke—a man she’s never heard of.

Two days later Dilara manages to track down former combat engineer Tyler Locke on an oil rig off Newfoundland. Her helicopter transport goes down well short of the oil rig’s landing pad and Dilara and those aboard nearly drown. No sooner is Dilara safely on the rig than she convinces Tyler the crash was no accident. Tyler agrees to help her uncover the secret behind Noah’s Ark and, more important, her father's disappearance. As the picture begins to come into focus, they realize they have just seven days to find the Ark before its secret is used to wipe out civilization once again.

With a chilling premise and a blistering pace, Boyd Morrison combines all the best elements of a blockbuster thriller with an intelligent and fascinating exploration of one of the Old Testament’s great mysteries.

There's a nugget of something intriguing here and the book is fast-paced, but ultimately the cliched characters, excessive telling (instead of showing) and an an unbelievable Marty Stu hero make this a painful read.

A more generic thriller based on a historical/religious artifact cannot be found - young, pretty archaeologist meets ex-military, cynical man and they get shot at a lot. It's readable though, and I enjoyed it despite its predictability. That is the novel's only flaw really, aside from prose and dialogue that occasionally doesn't QUITE flow as it should. There are no twists, no turns, and I really can't emphasise the generic-ness enough. But hey, it's worth a read.

It was not a bad audiobook as it has an intriguing if not creative storyline. I love history and action. It had moments that seemed a little cheesy and not very complex but overall it filled the void of not having anything else to listen to. I am going to listen to another story with this Locke character and hope it is better or at least the same action wise.

Pretty good story and narration. Has a James Bond meets Indiana Jones vibes. If there was a series of books with these characters I would definitely read/listen to them.

A fairly routine adventure thriller based around a doom laden artefact hidden in the site of Noah's ark. In a Dirk Pitt (Clive Cussler) style adventure complete with a glamorous heroine, the hero does battle with the wealthy bad guy. Some of the story set ups are a bit predictable, but the book is sufficiently entertaining to pop in the suitcase if you are anticipating a long flight or a boring evening in a business hotel.

WOW! This book is filled with action and thrills that start right out of the gate until the finally! This book has it all; science, archeology, violence, and romance. In my opinion, the characters are well developed, likeable, and believable. This is one of the best books I have read lately! If you are looking for a non-stop action thriller, then you have chosen the right book!

Fabulous -- couldn't put it down.An elderly archaeologist is murdered. Before he dies, he manages to speak a few cryptic words to a colleague, the beautiful Dilara Kenner, whose own father disappeared three years earlier while pursuing his life?s work, the search for Noah?s Ark. Now, it seems, the ark and the solution to her father?s disappearance are within Dilara?s grasp, as long as she and Tyler Locke, an adventurous engineer, can keep ahead of the shadowy people who want to use the ark for their own purposes. This is a solid, well-written thriller, full of action, villainy, and close calls.

I am reading the Kindle version of this book which is no longer available on Amazon. I'm about 1/2 way thru and just love this book. The book will be released in paperback March 2010. I am assuming that the PB version will be very similar to the Kindle release I just read. This is a fantastic book! The action rarely slows. The story keeps your interest. The search for Noah's Ark is not really part of the story until near the end. It's there in the story, but does not become central until the end which actually makes the whole book work.I look forward to reading the author's next book.

It?s hip to be squareArcheologist Dilara Kenner has rushed back to the States at the behest of Sam Watson, an old family friend. Sam meets her flight at LAX and explains, ?Three days ago, I made a startling discovery at work. It has to do with Hasad.? Hasad, Dilara?s father, has been missing for three years. Just as Sam begins to tie Hasad?s disappearance to a plot to ?kill millions, maybe billions? that will culminate eight days hence, the old man collapses, the apparent victim of a very suspiciously-timed heart attack. His final words ?Listen! Tyler Locke. Gordian Engineering. Get? his help. He knows? Coleman. Your father?s research? started everything. You must? find the Ark.?(I know, I know, we?ve all seen exactly this sort of opening to any number of thrillers. There are always some adventurers off in search of some holy grail or other, and who also have to save the world along the way. Yes, we?ve seen these types of stories before, but the thing is, when they?re well done, they?re entertaining as hell. And folks, this one is really well done. No plot description or talk of well-developed characters will ever give you a sense of why this book stands out so well against the pack of clich?d thrillers. At some point the reader must take a leap of faith and give a new novelist a try. I?m telling you right now, this is the one to give a try.)The eponymous Ark is Noah?s, of course. Dilara?s father has been hunting it for decades and she?s been as dismissive of his work as the rest of the world?but apparently someone was paying attention. First, however, Dilara needs to stay alive long enough to find out who Tyler Locke is. From the moment she leaves LAX, the attempts on her life come fast and furious. She quickly discovers that Locke is an engineer, currently working on a remote oil rig, and figures that may well be the safest place for her. She?s wrong. At least Dilara and Tyler have connected, but he?s as mystified by Sam?s final words as she is. Still, there?s no denying that something highly suspect is going on, and Tyler is quickly sucked into Dilara?s drama. It is Tyler Locke that debut novelist Boyd Morrison is setting up to be the recurring hero of a series. And if this first adventure is any indication, Locke is up to the task. While he owes a debt to action heroes like Dirk Pitt and Philip Mercer, there?s something a bit softer about Tyler. He comes by his ?kick-ass? side quite believably, having served as a combat engineer in Desert Storm, but he?s as likely to pull a Leatherman tool on you as a gun. Now in his 30?s, he?s a young widower trying to come to terms with loss. And he has a bit of an egghead side, too?approaching each challenge as an engineering problem. It?s more interesting than you might, at first glance, think. Here, for instance, are some thoughts on the conundrum of Noah?s Ark:?From an engineering standpoint, a purely wooden ship bigger than that is untenable. Without the iron frames and internal bracketing that 19th century ships had, a ship the size of Noah?s Ark would flex like a rubber band. It would have sprung leaks in a thousand places. Not to mention that in a raging storm like the Flood, wave oscillations would have snapped the frame like a twig. The Ark would have sunk in minutes. Good-bye human race.? From there, Tyler analyzes the lifespan of wooden artifacts, the storage capacity of the Ark, and the amount of water it would have taken to cover the earth. This is a man whom likes to throw logic at a problem. Once Tyler and Dilara have teamed up, however, there is little time for academic discussions. Sam?s cryptic words take on horrifying meaning as unfolding events capture the entire world?s attention. The events described thus far happen within the novel?s first few chapters. Throw in some monster trucks, mysteriously melting movie stars, and megalomaniacs and you?ve barely brushed the surface of what lies ahead. Boyd Morrison has plotted a wild ride that is guaranteed to keep readers turning pages deep into the night. The Ark is not only intricately plotted, it?s smart. Morrison gives his readers credit that they?ll be able to follow along, and it?s a pleasure to read an author not catering to the lowest common denominator. I can?t claim that this release is my introduction to Morrison?s work. The truly cognoscenti have been fans since long before Simon & Schuster came into the picture. But, it?s exciting to finally let the rest of you in on this find. I can?t wait for the sequel!

A decent techno-thriller, in which a beautiful and brilliant archaeologist teams with a former military specialist-turned-engineer to thwart the plans of a madman to kill all the world's population, save 300 chosen by himself, using the same deadly scourge that was retrieved from the remains of Noah's Ark. Not a lot of innovation in the characters here and how they fit neatly into familiar thriller archetypes, but it doesn't really detract. The premise is intriguing, the action tense and fast-paced, and the Old Testament connection is plausibly presented. I'm coming to enjoy techno-thrillers as a kind of guilty pleasure, and this is on the good side of the bell curve.

Is the story of Noah's ark based in facts? Has Dilara's father found the ark. Can she and Tyler Locke find the ark in time to save the world from another flood. This book has just enough fact and fiction to make the story from the Old Testament seem plausible. Dilara's father life long search for the ark has left him dead but leaving clues along the way for Dilara to follow. Tyler Locke , partner in a large construction company has the tools and together to work to keep a mega cult leader from recreating the "Flood" and ending humankind once again.Fans of Cussler and Rollins will find a new author to enjoy.

As a breakout author of this genre, I thought the author did a great job of taking something as historical as Noah's Ark and giving a new twist to this age old biblical story. Plenty of action and edge of your seat scenes as the man characters are taking on the roller coaster ride of their life to find the Ark and stop the madness of a group that just may accomplish their plot to cleanse the world.

I would liken the author to James Rollins, Clive Cussler, Steve Berry and possibly Dan Brown. He is not quite there yet but he has his foot in the door and look forward to reading his next book to see if he enters the room with the likes of the above authors.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for a quick adventure read that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Some language and of course a sex scene it neither adds or distracts from the story.

Picked this book up from the local library based on the jacket write up.

Dilara's father is an archeologist. His life has been dedicated to finding Noah's Ark. His belief has been that the Bible is not quite correct, having been translated poorly over the many years and many translations. He finds new and slightly different translations and after a lifetime of searching, the ark is within his reach. But for him it is not to be. He manages to scribble a few words on a scrap of paper as he dies. Dilara knows only that he never came home from his last foray. She assumes he has died, and cherishes his last gift to her. A locket that arrived in the mail for her birthday, and she wears it always. The bad guys in this one are really really bad. Sebastion Ulric is an evil genius. His plan is to personally select a number of talented people, control and protect him and then neatly remove the rest of human life from the planet. Let me tell you, this is just the man for the job! He has the brains, the money and now, thanks to the inadvertent help of Dilara's father he has the means. Sam Watson calls Dilara home from her own archeological dig. His request is urgent and he chooses to meet her at the airport. As they about to discuss his reason for asking her to come, Sam Dies. He has been cleverly murdered by one of Ulrics minions. As he is dying, he manages to gasp our a few words. Dilara hears and remembers. Enter Tyler Locke and company. Sam's last words sent Dilara in search of Tyler and that was a good choice. This book has a lot of action, a lot of high tech gadgets and some remarkably fit and lucky characters. In other words it is a typical, rollicking good ride. I am pretty sure that this is the beginning of more adventures of Tyler Locke. As far as I am concerned, this is great news. I would not be surprised to see Dilara pop up again as well. We shall see. I know that I will, as I plan to read the next offering from Morrison.

Dilara Kenner is pulled away from her archeological dig when an old family friend calls and say he must see her immediately. She rushes home only to be told that her long missing father may have discovered Noah?s Ark, his lifelong quest ? but he may have died doing so. Shortly after delivering the message Sam Watson suffers an apparent heart attack, but not before giving Dilara just enough clues to send her on her own quest to discover what really happened to her father.

As I have mentioned in previous reviews, this kind of book is my guilty pleasure ? action, guns, explosions, good guys and bad guys battling it out ? with a little bit of history, archeology and conspiracy thrown in to justify it all. This one fit right in. I liked it!

Thrillers are, by definition, thrilling, or there's flat no point to 'em. This thriller is certainly thrilling! It's not overly believeable, but neither are most of the others I've read and enjoyed. Somehow thrilling things only seem to happen to people with oodles of money and contacts at VERY high levels and access to private jets and peculiarly uninterested customs and immigration protocols.Ahhh, so what...the ride's the thing. This ride was a ball. The Ark, as in "Noah's", is the vector for a hideous, all-devouring plague, and the resident Seattle multibillionaire evil SOB has used his money to engineer a superdedooper-a-la-Peter-T-Hooper version of the bug he used the main character's gal-pal's archeologist daddy to find. And the main charactrer, Tyler, finds out about it barely in time to get in on the fun chasing around the globe that stopping the worldwide release of the nasty that Superbaddie Seattle SOB has in mind!So off we go, around the world on planes that apparently never need to refuel, with pilots who never speak or in one case Tyler piloting the plane...onto the world's largest cruise ship, slated for death and contagion via Arkon-C (the virus's catchy nickname); out to Phoenix to assemble the wreckage of John Travolta's a weird-culty Hollywood star's plane, destroyed after Arkon-C ate everyone on it; over to White Sands, New Mexico, to see a demo of the world's most powerful non-nuclear bomb, which test is overseen by Tyler's conveniently powerful Air Force General daddy; out to the oldest Christian monastery in the world, located in Armenia; thence to Mount Ararat, Turkey, where the Ark is; and then to the Ark itself. Of course, Tyker and his gal-pal save the world, and all returns to normal. The end of the world as we know it ain't thriller-ending material.Wow! If the Ark is ANYthing like Morrison describes, I wanna go NOW and see it!! Like everything else about the book, the Ark is hugely improbable, but Morrison has lavished so much creative energy on the idea of the Ark that it came vividly alive for me, and represented the best reason I can give you to make you buy and read this book: Morrison's imagination is world-class and deserves our support. I think the fact that he got blurbs from James Rollins, Steve Berry, Douglas Preston, and Gayle Lynds is readily explainable: They know they need to be nice to the next big man on campus so he'll be nice to them later.A word about how this book came to be: It was a self-published Kindle title, one that was picked up by Simon & Schuster's Touchstone imprint, because it sold quite well in the Kindle-only universe of thrillers that exists. I am seriously contemplating getting a $)(!&*%*^ Kindle so I can read all those trashy boy-meats-boy bromances and otherwise-unavailable thrillers that are out there in abundance.*sigh* O tempora! O mores! (My favorite misquote from the Latin.) (They didn't use exclams, y'know.)

A large book, definitely worth the ride. It was fast paced and I agree with some other reviewers, a lot of the ride was spent on the action of finding the ark. To me, this just made the juicy parts all the more worth it.

I just couldn't get further into this book. Seemed a bit slow moving. Had several significant events, but it took nearly 100 pages to explain these events. Lot of gunfights, explosions, and shooting. This always comes with unrealistic action and predictability. Just didn't seem to move along as quickly. Perhaps its just me. Lack of patience. I don't know. Moving on.

The first in a series, Boyd Morrison introduces us to his new hero Tyler Locke. Locke doesn't possess any spectacular abilities - except his brain, which he uses over and over again to get out of tight spots.
Archaeologist Dilara Kenner is called home from a dig early by family friend Sam Watson for some cryptic emergency. Not wanting to waste any time, Watson meets Dilara at LAX airport. He tells her that Hasad Arvadi, Dilara's father and Noah 's ark expert, has finally realized his dream of finding the ark. Before he can tell her any more, Watson collapses, the victim of poison. With his dying breath, Sam tells her to "find Tyler Locke."
Locke is an engineer doing consulting work on an oil rig off the coast of Newfoundland when Dilara contacts him and sets up a meeting. As her helicopter is approaching the rig, an engine explodes sending passengers and crew into the icy waters. Tyler devises a plan to rescue them and later thwarts an attempt to blow up the oil rig. Convinced something is amiss, Tyler, along with his partner Grant Westfield, join Dilara in her quest to find Noah 's ark.
The characters are believable and the plot a very real possibility. I liked the way Morrison mixed fact with fiction. In fact he did it so well that I could not tell the difference. This is an excellent read and highly recommended.
