      Well it has been one great lost for this family and the ten year old little girl who survived the killings of her entire family and her little girl friend who came over for a sleepover.

      The Lieutenant Eve Dalles and the central police department did their work and was able to bring an end to this killers and their teams. She also gave the little girl another home and another life and family.
      Love this book and the hardworking of the police.

      It was very sad that they lose two good cops in this killings hands of one of the home terrorist groups. That they have dealt with before and this three was missed when they were chasing the Cassandra groups. This three were able to get alway now have killed eight innocent victims and this time Lieutenant Eve Dalles and her team did not let them get away. The circle was closed and the killers brothers caught.

      Eh. The first half was OK. More true to the chaos of crime or something like that. The second half was a lot of psycho babble, some psychopath some macho some rubbish .

      Peabody in back in action, following her injuries in the previous book; I found it difficult to believe that only "a couple of months" had passed between the two, due to the nature of her injuries in Divided in Death, even with the future medical tech, but hey, what's a bit of this world knowledge got to do with it, right?

      One of the more difficult books for me to read in this series. A family (Mother, Father, Son & Daughter - or rather daughter's best friend) is assassinated with only one survivor, 9-year old Nixie. Killed in her place is her best friend, Linnie.

      Dallas and her team sort the evidence, finding how and why, the commonality between this case, and several other murders (closed and open) in order to apprehend the perps and bring them to justice.

      Moral delimmas for Dallas and Roarke, visits by the pregnostrous Mavis, "tit for tat" with Nadine - all the expected players, with a surprise visit from Dallas' favorite IAB officer...

      Some throwbacks to earlier books as well. It's a good book, but difficult for me due to the children.

      Lt. Eve Dallas is baffled. A family has been slaughtered. The killers bypassed top of the line security and murdered 5 people, three adults and two children in less than 5 minutes. There is no background to indicate why this happened. One of the children was not meant to die. The killers targeted the wrong child and will now stop at nothing to correct that mistake. Like all the "In Death" books this one also follows a logical path to the conclusion. Always a very good read.

      It has been a brutal invasion as Survivor in Death: Eve Dallas Mysteries by J.D. Robb begins. The intruders came in during the dead of night. They easily disarmed the alarm and killed everyone in the house. It is a brutal blood bath.But they missed one child.Nixie Swisher got up from her bed to get a drink and left her friend behind who was over on a sleepover. She was in the kitchen area when she realized very bad people were in the house. She did the only thing she could. She hid. Her friend was mistaken for her and killed along with Nixie’s entire family and the nanny. Because she hid, she is alive, and everyone else is dead.NYPSD Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas intends to keep it that way. Not only was Nixie Swisher clearly a target as others were being killed, she intends to get her some sort of justice by getting the killers. It becomes rapidly clear that is going to be easier said than done as the killers are highly skilled and are not done yet. It is the year 2059 in this violent and fast-moving read, the city is New York, and it still takes smart cops doing the basic footwork to catch killers. It does not hurt to have some bucks and some skilled folks who are not cops either. A fast and fun read, Survivor in Death: Eve Dallas Mysteries works pretty well. Of course, all the usual caveats regarding head hopping in point of view and other issues still apply. But, as always, the reader is soon swept away in the flow of the story and it is a very good story. There’s the strong sense of place, relatable, believable characters, a gruesome crime, a child in peril . . . all of these combine to create a riveting tale filled with relationships, characters readers know and love, and an emotional plot that runs the gamut from humorous to heart-wrenching. As always, the relationships between the characters, the romance, and the repartee all have a place in the telling of a tale that readers will find truly unputdownable.Highly recommended.

      I thought Survivor in Death was just OK. There were moments when I laughed out loud and got misty-eyed, but I felt somewhat dissatisfied with the story as a whole. Eve seemed very cold to me. I understand due to her childhood, she'd have a hard time dealing with a kid victim. At times though, she seemed a bit heartless and that not the Eve I've come to learn. The normal camaraderie between everyone didn't feel as genuine this time. I didn't really care for the mystery either. I didn't like the idea behind the killings nor the fact that the killers were tied to groups from previous books. The ending seemed a bit contrived and convenient. I hope the next one is better.

      After her entire family is murdered in their beds, 9 year old Nixie Swisher is taken into protective custody while Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her team investigate. As the evidence unfolds, Eve soon comes to realize that the deaths are part of a larger agenda and that little Nixie's life is in even more danger than ever.

      An enjoyable installment with an intriguing mystery and some fantastic character development.

      The investigation into the Swisher family's murder is compelling, and while it is rather easy to figure out the culprit and the motivation, there are a couple of twists that catch the reader by surprise. Moreover, the showdown at the end is particularly intense, and Robb certainly knows how to write an action sequence.

      Little Nixie is a resilient and adorable child whose predicament touches Eve, Roarke and Summerset on a profoundly personal level. All of their reactions to her are simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking.

      In sum, Survivor In Death is another excellent addition to the series, which just seems to go from strength to strength.

Robb#20 In Death seriesNixie Swisher, a courageous 9-year-old girl, loses all of her family members, as well as her best friend, after she wakes up in the middle of the night and creeps downstairs to sneak an orange soda immediately before a home invasion ends with the brutal slayings of everyone close to her. Because her friend was spending the night with her and was sleeping in her bed, the killers did not realize they had overlooked a witness to their crimes, someone who would remind Lt. Eve Dallas of herself when she was a young girl, setting off her rage and need to take them down.As always in this series, the suspense and action do not disappoint. This book in particular has moved up high on my list for this series for the character development of Eve and Roarke, as well as for Summerset, their majordomo and Roarke's father figure. They all have to face the tragedies of their past because of this little girl whom they have vowed to protect. We witness an opening discussion and thoughts about whether they think they will make good parents someday when they are ready. There is a very touching scene which actually brought tears to my eyes when Nixie had to visit the morgue to say her goodbyes. Very well done in showing Eve's humanity through that, as she is known to keep her emotions under lock and key as she fights anything that brings them to the surface.Another point I was glad was brought up was Roarke's reasoning and thoughts about why he's willing to drop everything and help Eve in her homicide investigations, whether it is his computer or lock-picking skills, piloting his personal helicopter to get her where she needs to be in a hurry, or being part of the on-site team when they are busting down doors. I've been wondering if that was ever going to be touched upon because in recent books, he seems to be spending more time assisting the police department than he is building and maintaining his own empire.We are seeing the tight-knit community of friends weaving itself around Eve (both in her chosen team at work as well as personally) and the emergence of her willingness to lean on them and give back to them in return. She's slowly starting to show a softer side. It only lasts for mere moments (haha) but she's learning. This was an excellent installment of this ongoing series.

      This one got to me. A family is murdered but their daughter survives because she disobeyed and got out of bed to go to the kitchen for a snack. I cried as I read the sections with Nixie. Watching Eve deal with a nine-year-old was fun but heart-wrenching. I did think it would end differently but 'twas not to be. Oh, Eve does get the bad guy. Probably the best of the series so far.

      cried a lot. I think this was one of the most emotional books thus far
      in the series. I love the way J.D Robb projected Nixie's feelings into
      what Eve went through on her own childhood. And the way everybody else
      reacted to the child's fate on their own particular way made this book
      that much more special to me. After the big tension between Roarke and
      Eve on Divided in Death, I think we are getting some pretty cute and
      swoony and sexy scenes out of those two. Some humor in here too that
      made me crack the hell up. Deliciously amazing.

      When a middle class, seemingly innocent urban family is murdered in their beds with no apparent motive and only one small survivor, Detective Eve Dallas is sure there's a motive. Good thing for her she has a crack team to back her up and mad skills to drive her on.Hadn't read one of these for a while, and it was a kick to go back and re-discover the early Eve. Not a bad way to spend a summer evening.

      Another great balance between the police procedural and the development of the personal stories of the characters in the series. Here Eve has to battle personal demons in order to help the child victim. I think its remarkable that Robb/Roberts is able to maintain growth in the characters and create unique plots in each installment, particularly after 20 books. I don't think that has been achieved by any other author.

      In this installment, Dallas investigates the murder of a whole family - except for a traumatised young girl who witnessed the attack. Inevitably Eve draws parallels with her own troubled childhood, and the nightmares return. Dallas and her gazillionaire husband Roarke protect the child whilst tracking down the eerie militairistic killers responsible.

      Sometimes I'm not sure if television shows are lifting their ideas from Robb or the other way around. An entire family, save one young survivor, are murdered in their home. Sound familiar? I saw this on CSI, and Law and Order I think. But, those shows didn't have Eve Dallas on the case. While I did enjoy this one, I found it a little too dark. Most novels in this series refer to Eve's horrible past, but this one drives the point home since the remaining victim is so young. Eve strongly identifies with her and wants to protect her as she wasn't. This makes for some depressing internal thoughts for Eve and even puts a damper on the usual playfulness she and Roarke engage in each book. Peabody and McNab do inject some humor into the story. Despite the tone, it was a solid mystery with some hot sex (as usual) and the characters are as real as ever. I recommend it, as I do the entire series, this just wasn't my favorite of the bunch.

      Another good visit with Eve and Rourke. A young girl is the only survivor of the murder of her family, hiding out with Eve who's trying to find out who did it before they find the girl and kill her too, taking a lot of other people with her.
