About this audiobook

Take a trip to Lake Henry, New Hampshire, and fall in love with this romantic suspense by the New York Times bestselling author of Lake News.

Lake Henry, New Hampshire, is buzzing over the annual maple syrup harvest...as well as the shocking revelation that long-time resident Heather Malone has been led away by the FBI, which claims the devoted stepmother and businesswoman fled the scene of a fatal accident in California years before. Poppy Blake, her best friend, is determined to prove Heather's innocence, while facing past mistakes of her own: she has never overcome her guilt from the snowmobile accident that killed her partner and left her paralyzed. Playing an unlikely role in both women's lives is investigative journalist Griffin Hughes, whose attraction to Poppy keeps him coming back to Lake Henry, even though he is secretly responsible for drawing the law closer to Heather. To redeem himself, Griffin sets out to solve the mystery surrounding Heather's predicament and becomes the key to freeing Poppy from her own regrets and showing her a rich new future.

Extremely predictable first read by Delinsky. A bit too sappy and goody two shoes for my taste.

A good, light read for those in the mood for a romantic story; interesting background story on life in New England and maple sugar season.

Longtime resident of Lake Henry, New Hampshire, Heather Malone has been led away by the FBI, which claims that she fled the scene of a fatal accident in California years before. Poppy Blake, her best friend, is determined to clear her name, while facing past mistakes of her own: she still feels guilt over a snowmobile accident that killed her partner and left her paralyzed. Playing an unlikely role in both women's lives is investigative journalist Griffin Hughes, whose attraction to Poppy keeps him returning to Lake Henry, even as he is the secret reason why the FBI is interested in Heather. To redeem himself, Griffin sets out to unravel the mystery surrounding Heather and becomes the key to freeing Poppy from her regrets and showing her a rich new future. In my opinion, this is not Barbara Delinsky's best work. There was a lot of discussion of maple syrup making which I didn't understand very well. I give this book a C+!

Don’t judge this book based on the abridged audio. It’s a disaster. I’ve read the entire book & I know there are some old school full length audio version on cds in libraries, but for some reason only the abridged is available on all streaming platforms. Then you get bad reviews like ‘no character development’, etc. Delinsky’s style is that you need the whole book. I’ve listened to 2 of my favs with her shrunk from 13 hrs to 4.5 hrs, & this one needs every word to make sense. It’s totally not worth listening to or having the abridged version of this book on audio. The other I listened to is at least palatable & doesn’t loose anything major. But this should only exist in full length form.
