Описание

If driving a piece-of-crap tow truck through the seediest part of town with a Smith & Wesson beside her means putting a roof over her son's head, then Samantha Jones is going to be the best damn repo woman on the books. The streetwalkers, the drug pushers, the bands of looking-for-trouble punks haunting the mean streets at midnight don't intimidate her. These are her people. The guy she finds bound and bloodied in the trunk of her latest conquest, a flashy new BMW, is a different breed entirely.

Daniel Panterro was certain he was going to die. Instead, by a stroke of luck, he was beaten to within an inch of his life and left for dead. But if he's having a bad day, Sam's day is about to get way worse. Danny knows he hasn't seen the last of the vicious drug runners who kidnapped him from protective custody. His only recourse is to take his pretty savior hostage and force her to help him. There's no going back for Sam and her four-year-old son, Tyler. They're in way too deep.

With ruthless killers stalking their trail, Sam's only choice is to trust this handsome, menacing stranger. But as she relinquishes control, Sam feels an unmistakable desire. Could she be tempted by Danny, who seems intent on protecting her and Tyler from even his own darkest secrets? And what is the price of falling in love with a man who operates on the edge of danger-her heart, her life…or both?

Detective Ruben Montoya ("Cold Blooded") is back, investigating the murder of a local shock jock and a female college student headed for a nunnery. Still grieving the loss of his lover Marta, the last thing he wants is to get involved with the prime suspect - the victim's wife Abby Chastain. ackson does a great job keeping the killer under wraps (so much so that we are not aware of him until the final act); throwing out numerous possible suspects. The killer's inspired MO is clever and ingenious. But the revelation of the culprit was a let down after such a gripping tale, marring what could have been a perfect story.

This was not the page turner I was hoping for. In the past, I have loved Lisa Jackson's works. This is a necessary read for the Montoya/Benz series.

    READ IN DUTCH

This was the first book I read by Lisa Jackson, and the premise was really promising. It starts off very good as well. So after reading about 50 pages, my expectations were pretty high...

Unfortunately is the rest of the story nothing special. It even became predictable and - due to endless repetition- boring at times. Such a shame, because it started of pretty good, and I feel like the novel could have been so much better.

Loved this book. Very strong female character that wasn't over powered by a strong male character.

I like Karen Robards; I think she is a very good writer. And I liked "Shiver." It's a highly entertaining book that goes at breakneck speed. The action never stops, and yet the romance that is woven in has time to develop in a believable way. Samantha Jones is single mother to four-year-old Tyler, trying to make ends meet by running a towing company and repossessing cars in the dead of night. One night the car she repossesses has a man in the trunk - alive but badly injured. From this point, Samantha's life becomes inextricably intertwined with that of the man in the trunk - Daniel Panterro, an undercover FBI agent. My only negative comment about this book is that the dialogue written for four-year-old Tyler isn't quite right. He sounds more like a 10- or 11-year-old boy. At times Robards gets it right, but most of the time Tyler just sounds too old to be four. It's a little distracting but not so bad as to make me knock the book down from 5 stars.I really enjoyed this book!

Sam (Samantha) is a single mother of a 4 yr. old son, Tyler--living pay check to pay check by being a repo while her next door neighbor keeps her son.

While driving a tow truck though a bad part of town she finds a guy in the trunk of a flashy new BMW (Daniel). She saved his life but she does not trust his motivates. However, Danny is undercover FBI and now he has put Sam and her son in jeopardy.

Sam can take care of herself and a very protective mother and knows how to use a gun! With ruthless killers stalking their trail, Sam has to trust this sexy stranger.

The audio book was not as intense as Hunted (highly recommend); however, as always, Karen Robards knows how to entertain her audience and brings steamy sex and suspense.

    Excellent, action packed, and exciting!

While single young mom, Samantha Jones, knows that repossessing cars for a living in a bad part of town can be dangerous, she has no idea just how dangerous it can be until she stumbles upon a body in a trunk on her latest assignment.

After being severely beaten, shot and stuffed into the trunk, under cover agent Daniel Panterro realizes his odds of making it out of this operation alive are slim to none. That is until the trunk gets knocked open as the car is hitched onto the tow and he sees a beautiful angel of a girl staring down at him. Before he can react to get her help, she is bashed over the head with a gun and efficiently stuffed into the trunk right behind him. Now in addition to his life being on the line as he pretends to be corrupt agent Rick Marco, an innocent civilian just got caught in the cross fire.

Danny must think of some way to get out of this mess and to save the girl in the process. Little does he know that the petite girl isn't quite as defenseless as she appears.

As if life wasn't tough enough trying to raise a 4 year old on her own, Sam gets sucked into an assassination attempt on a deadly ex-federal agent who turned against both the feds and the drug cartel in an effort to promote his own prosperity. The man she's stuck with in the trunk and then on the run, Marco, is a dangerous, wanted criminal, and way too attractive for his own good. If Sam hopes to make it out of this mess alive, she has no other options than to work with this difficult, deceptive, charming man because her life, and the life of her young son Tyler may just depend on it. What neither plans on is the sparks that fire between the two. Will Sam be able to trust Marco enough to let him protect her or can she manage to grab Tyler and make a run for it? Will Danny be able to complete his mission as Marco without getting the young women he's quickly falling for and her child killed?

An explosive, steamy, and action packed adventure, this novel is impossible to put down! Another amazing story by Karen Robards and a must-read!

I have a little collection of Lisa Jackson novels. However, I see that I have only read a handful of her novels. Lisa writes historical romance and comtemporary romance, but her bread and butter is romantic suspence. I easily pass up Lisa's books on my shelf in favor of something else because part of the time her books are really good, the other part of the time they are only fair. This one, however, was a really good one. The story got off to a quick start and then stayed on track. Abby has a history in New Orleans. Her mother suffered from mental illness and was institutionalized. On her 35th birthday she fell/ jumped out of a window and died. Now, the institution is being torn down. Abby is divorced and ready to leave New Orleans. She puts her house of the market and makes plans to move on with her life. But, her philandering ex husband is murdered and Abby becomes suspect number one, then a potential victim. The Sexy cop investigating the murders, Montoya, believes there is a link between the old asylum and Abby, and the murders. The mystery was good. There is nothing more creepy than an old asylum. The romance between Abby and Montoya ( who seemed to have so many first names, using his last name was easier on everyone), was rushed and didn't have all that much fire. But, this is not one of those books where half the book is sex and the other half plot. The romance wasn't the main focus. There will be more to come from the detective duo of Bentz and Montoya in the next book, which will tie up a few loose ends regarding Abby's mother.Overall a B

I shouldn't have even bothered reading this one. After picking it up, I had to groan at reading yet another serial killer novel. You would think by the way they're portrayed by writers, that every fifth person in the world is a serial killer. With so many of these types of novels out there, the writer needs to do a strong job of distinguishing it from the pack. This novel not only fails to that, it doesn't work at all. The characters are weak. The plot is generic. The melodrama is constant. There is nothing remotely believable in the story. In other words, don't bother reading this. It is a waste of time.Carl Alves - author of Two For Eternity

Not having read a thriller in a while, this kept me engaged throughout & I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I thought it a little overdramatic at times & the various characters talking to themselves under their breath was a bit annoying, but a good read overall.

I couldn't put this book down! Though it was almost 500 pages long, I read it in about a day and a half, because I was hooked. Lisa Jackson tells a wonderfully suspenseful story complete with twists and turns, a tiny bit of romance mixed in for good measure. And though many others who have read this book say that they figured out 'whodunnit' from early on, I didn't see it coming and it kept me guessing until the end.I eagerly await the sequel, Absolute Fear, due out spring of 2007.
