this book was one of my favorites when I was little. The Gingerbread Man tells the story of a little gingerbread cookie that comes to life. This little gingerbread man runs away from everyone, until he is caught by the wolf. This a great classic for young children to read today.

Summary:This is the story of an old woman who bakes a gingerbread man. She instructs her little boy to watch the oven. Once he can smell the gingerbread man to call her, but not to open the door. What little boy could resist the temptation to open the oven door? Obviously not this one. He opens the door and as he does out runs the gingerbread man yelling,"Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man." So off goes the ginerbread man as he taunts everyone who tries to catch him with the same little rhyme, only adding the person who couldn't catch him to the begining of it. In the end a fox outsmarts the gingerbread man by pretending he can't hear his bragging. Once the gingerbread man gets close enough the fox eats him up.Personal Reaction:This is my daughters favorite book. She loves being able to read along with me since it is repetitive. She thinks in the end when the fox eats the gingerbread man is hilarious. I like this book because of all the cool things you could do after reading it.Extension Ideas:1.) After reading all the kids could decorate their own gingerbread man and place them on a cookie sheet. The teacher would put them in the school oven, and when the time came to get them out come in and tell the kids that the gingerbread men were gone. From there they could go on a scavenger hunt around school to find them, going from one mischevious thing to another that the little men did (ex: threw some papers on the ground and lost a button in the hallway, knocked over the glue bottles). At the end of the hunt have the school secretary hollar at the kids that she caught them, and have the cookies in a big bowl. Have them peek in and get their cookie, but tell them to be quick and eat them before they run away again.2.) Have giant brown construction paper cut out in the shape of gingerbread men, and have lots of buttons, ribbons, google eyes, etc., to decorate their very own gingerbread man.

The traditional tale of the Gingerbread man.Children love the predictive text and the thrill of the chase. In this particular telling of the story the gingerbread man is eaten by a wolf. We read several versions of this book and vote on which one we like the best. We also compare and contrast the differences.

The Gingerbread Man by Karen SchmidtThis audio book is about the gingerbread man. The old woman bakes a gingerbread man for her boy.She tells him not to open the oven door and she gardens. The little boy watched the oven and he could smell the gingerbread. He wants to see if he looks as good as it smells. The gingerbread man hopped out of the oven, out of the house, into the road.He sings out you can't catch me because I'm the gingerbread man.The old man and old woman run after him but he's so much faster. He came to some farmers. He tells them who he's run away from and they say they can catch him. They toss their rakes down and can't catch him. he meets up with a bear and same thing happens. He then comes to a wolf. He tells the wolf who he's run away from and that he can run away from the wolf also. The wolf tries to catch him also...I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
