- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5One of the most disappointing endings in a romance I've ever read. I just returned the ebooks books I bought this morning. I won't waste any more time , only to be completely unsatisfied in the end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Why not 5 stars ? Because it was damaging to my soul to watch her (Eden) pain and even his (Javier) as it was. Another not so happy smiley book from the genius of writing tortured souls Ms. Halle. She likes to take a handsome man and give him a sharp dark edge with a huge dose of sexual tension and body slam him into some girls life. In this case the girl is a semi naive, scared inside and out, con artist want to be, virgin, with a heart hidden under her shadows. When to two meet, the heat and desire flares, it's so fast and furious it borders on obsession. All this intense desire, for revenge, for lust, for love and for hate had me pulling an all-nighter. Lack of sleep and a broken heart at the end of the book. Feck ! I had to start Sins and Needles at 3 am. ~sigh~
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ok, forget what I said before about Javier... sexy or not, that man is a total douche! Even knowing how it ended, waiting for it the whole time, I hurt for Ellie so much when the end came.
Waiting for Shooting Scars is killing me! I have to know if Camden finds her... and if he does, will she still choose him? (she better!) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow! Javier blew my mind. I fell for the "villain" hard! I'm so excited about this series now. Totally unexpected! There is so much more than meets the eye with these characters, especially Javier. I'm rooting for his redemption! I hope he doesn't disappoint! TEAM JAVIER!
One of my favorite/heartbreaking moments:
"I stuck the seat belt in my mouth and clamped down, biting as hard as I could, letting the screams roll through me, shaking the car, shaking me to my very being. This was my soul crying, my heart fighting, and they all were losing."
Damn you Javier but I love you! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5OMG! This book broke my heart.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Recommended to be read AFTER Sins & Needles (book #1).When young con artist Ellie Watt decides to call herself Eden White and go after the drug lord who ruined her as a child, she never expects to fall for one of his henchmen. But Javier Bernal is no ordinary man. Subtly dangerous and overwhelmingly seductive, Eden finds herself passionately in love with Javier, the very person she's set-up to betray. With her body and heart in a heated battle against her deep need for revenge, no one will walk away from this con a winner.Takes place six years before Sins & Needles. It can be read before or after Sins & Needles and may also be read as a standalone. Ellie Watt grew up with con-artists for parents, and they taught her the trade. They were using her in cons for as long as she could recall, training her to be a grifter. But all that went south the last big con they tried to pull, having ten-year-old Ellie sneak into Travis Raines' basement to steal from him. But she got caught and he threw acid down one entire leg, forever scarring Ellie.Ten years have gone by since Ellie's parents disappeared into a long con, or at least she assumes that what happened to them. But Ellie is stuck in the past. She wants revenge on Travis, she wants him to suffer as she's suffered. So she goes to a family friend for remedial training on running the long con and before long she's got herself a whole new identity. Thus Eden White is born. After studying Travis for a few days she picks out her mark, the man she's going to seduce to get her clues enough to Travis to gave her revenge. The only problem is that she's a virgin, totally inexperienced sexually. And the man she targeted as her mark is far, far too sophisticated not to know the difference. They meet and things progress, going from strange, to intense, giddy and high, and then heartrending lows. The first time Eden takes off Javier finds her, admitting he has a tracking device on her truck. So the next time she bolts, she takes his beloved GTO. And she doesn't stop, she just keeps running. Will she get far enough for Ellie to surface again? Would Javier kill her if he ever discovered her lie? Will she pick up her revenge again as her driving force, or did she truly set it down when she and Javier were at the peek of their love affair? For a prequel novella this story really packs a punch! Read the full series to learn what happens next.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book left me breathless. I was unprepared to feel so invested in the true love story of Javier, a drug cartel fixer and Eden/Ellie a professional con artist. I was uncomfortable with the idea of these two deeply flawed people finding true love. I did not expect to be so wrong about Ellie/Eden that I eventually began to cheer for her and her decision to pick true love over revenge. Ellie/Eden chooses Javier as a mark for her long con to finally get revenge on the man that literally scarred her for life. Javier indirectly works for this man, Travis, a seriously evil cartel VP. Ellie/Eden's only goal was to give Travis a taste of her vengeance and move on. She did not anticipate Javier would be her first love. Ellie fell head over heels in deep to your soul love with Javier. As their relationship develops, she realizes that while his job makes him do awful things, she can forgive that for the love he makes her feel. Ellie loved Javier like it was her religion/job/reason for living and Javier's way of calling her Angel tells me he felt the same(Unless it was all a lie/con and I can't yet figure this out without the next book and I really want to believe he loves her.) This book is written from Eden's POV, so we don't know exactly what is going on in his mind but that is certainly the impression he gives. He moves her in to his home and pledges his love and begins to slowly reveal small truths about himself.
"I want to hurt the man who hurt me. I want to destroy him for destroying me. And I won't be happy, I won't be free, until I do so" In exchange Ellie gives up her desire to hurt Travis and remains devoted and yet never reveals anything of her true self to Javier.
"Love that begins in a lie is bound to kill you." One night, more than a year into their relationship Ellie comes home early from work and discovers Javier in their bed with another woman that she can tell clearly loves him. They are playful and sweet with each other and this breaks her. I have no idea where she summoned the strength to stay silent during these agonizing moments. Her quick thinking under pressure made her decide that it was over and she would flee. Months later in a bar Eden/Ellie strikes up a conversation with a stranger and asks every question I have had since Sins and Needles. "But he was my first love, my first everything."{Ellie sobbed} " How could he have done it? Why? Why did he choose her? Why did he sleep with her and throw everything we had away? Why?" The stranger Marda replies " I don't know why. You'll probably never know why. And if you did would it matter? Would it change anything that happened? Would you be able to forgive him even with the best excuses?" This makes me even more eager to know WHY Javier would do this and so we get this "Just because he cheated doesn't mean he didn't love you." And there it is..the moment I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall and give Ms Halle a serious talking to. I loved every word of this story and that may make me a bit of a masochist. However, I need to know the details, the how, the why, where, how long and how often of Javier's betrayal.
This leads us to page one of Sins and Needles, the first book in this riveting trilogy, and six years later. Javier looks for her for SIX years! I know right!?! This so makes me wonder where Ms Halle is going with this story. Is Ellie just a girl/lover he wants back, or something more we have yet to be let in on? I think from the scene in Sins where he admits he broke her trust, he realizes she knows about the betrayal but still hunts her down SIX years later. WHY! I NEED to understand. I am hooked on this series and will be reading these two stories again for hints or clues.
If I was excited for Shooting Scars (The Artists Trilogy, #2) before, I am jumping out of my skin for it NOW! I've read that a portion of that book will be from Javier's POV. I need to get inside Javier's head and find out what the heck I am reading! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This novella is a must-read after Sins & Needles. It is an integral part of the story, as it gives you an insight into Ellie's past which makes her who she is today. It is about the time she shared with her first love Javier, who was a complete villain in the first book, and maybe still is. But damn,... characterization is this author's greatest talent, and I'm not sure how she makes one of the worst guys you can possibly imagine, just have layers and layers of personality. The author somehow makes a story about drug lords and con artists completely relatable to the reader. She crafts Hollywood-style action-packed craziness and boils it down to very simple human concepts that everyone can understand. Looking back at first loves sometimes makes you think how the hell was I ever with this person?! What the hell was I thinking?! Yet such defining points in your life stay with you...they always have a piece of you and hold a special place in your heart. Novellas don't normally carry this much "story" but this one did.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I didn't want to like Javier but omg, I love him even though he is an asshole. And I liked Ellie/Eden in this one even better because we get to know why she acts the way she does in the first book.
