Reviews for Lily B. on the Brink of Cool
39 ratings5 reviews
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Aspiring 12-year-old writer Lily Blennerhasset is convinced that her parents are the most un-cool people on earth, and in order to be a successful writer, she must be cool. So when she sees some distant relatives at a wedding, who are clearly the coolest people on earth, she attaches herself to them. The LeBlanc family, however, are con artists, and Lily makes one bad decision after another, after another as she falls head-first into their scam. Meanwhile, she also shuns her best friend, who is trying to convince her that the LeBlanc's are criminals. In the end, of course, she learns the truth and sees what a gullible fool she has been. It's hard to feel any sympathy for Lily, because she is such a fool, shutting off her own common sense, and shutting out her loving parents and sensible long-time best friend. Clocking in at around 230+ pages, it's a bit longer than the subject matter warrants. Further editing would have been helpful. The reader has fully gotten the message that Lily is being suckered by this family of crooks, when there is still a great deal of suckering left to go.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a cute book. I thought it was funny, that Lily's mom is a neat freak.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lily B. is bored of her boring life and meets a family that she thinks are really cool. The book is great to read and is narrated by Lily B., kind of like a journal.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Note to future biographers:I am Lily B.Likes: Recording events in my journal which will be widely praised when I am famousDislikes: Family outings, people who make own bed in hotels (read: MY MOTHER), and the many uncool items in my closet.Summer Plans: I figured I was doomed for a vacation of boredom, until I met the most amazing girl, Karma, and her incredible family. And guess what? We're related! The summer is looking up, and I just may be on the brink of cool.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lily Blennerhassett is bored with her run-of-the-mill life and essentially boring parents: her dad is an accountant and her mom likes family outing such as clog dancing workshops. So when she meets the LeBlancs, or Cool People, she is naturally enthralled. Despite her parents' warnings, she sneaks out throughout the summer to visit them at the the office of their non-profit Hug the Planet. But when she lets them use her lake house when they must evacuate their own, it doesn't turm out quite as she hoped.Lily B. is a realistic girl and her diary-style narrative is engrossing and hilarious. I highly recommend this book for girls ages seven to sixteen. Laugh along with Lily as she discovers the truth about her family, friends, and what she's got. You'll be hungry for the sequels, Lily B. on the Brink of Love and Lily B. on the Brink of Paris.
