About this audiobook
"Be holy, for I am holy," commands God to His people. But holiness is something that is often missed in the Christian's daily life. According to Jerry Bridges, that's because we're not exactly sure what our part in holiness is. In The Pursuit of Holiness, he helps us see clearly just what we should rely on God to do-and what we should accept responsibility for ourselves. Whether you're continuing your pursuit of holiness or just beginning, the principles and guidelines in The Pursuit of Holiness will challenge you to obey God's command of holiness.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a blessing this book has been! Holiness should be our aim because in obedience is where joy is found. Holiness is what glorifies our incredible God.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Both convicting and encouraging! Such a blessing if a book to have. I will need to read it again and again.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thank God for leading me to this book. It is by turns very convicting and extremely edifying. Jerry Bridges had a writing style that felt like you were talking with a wise, caring pastor who also was a very knowledgeable theologian. The narration was perfect too. This is a book I will come back to again and again. I highly recommend it for any Christian who wants to get serious about your Christian walk.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Besides the Bible, this is the best book I’ve ever read!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Pursuit of Holiness is one of those modern stalwarts read by many evangelicals the past quarter century or so since it's publication. The book is a short, but very thorough, book that deals with the subject (obviously, given the title) of holiness.I decided to read the book after seeing a friend's review of it, and I must say that I was both surprised and convicted. I was surprised in how much about the subject of holiness I did not know about. How much, indeed, I would argue very few Christians know about. I always figured that "holiness" means to not sin. The author, Jerry Bridges, very quickly disabuses the reader of that notion. Not sinning is, indeed, a part of being holy, but he argues that holiness is so much more than some list of "do's" and "dont's". Holiness also means to hate sin as God does, and love righteousness as God does. It is to serve God with a joyous heart. To do right grudgingly is not good enough. We have to do right with a cheerful spirit. How do we do this if we truly don't feel cheerful? We ask God's help, and we immerse ourselves in Him. To stay as we are in our spiritual development, and then complain we don't feel closer to God, and are having a hard time obeying Him, makes no sense. The problem with holiness is that we never change. And that we don't work for the proper balance between leaning on God's Spirit for help, and doing our part to live holy lives before Him.Another area that really convicted me, and surprised me, is that so many Christians (including myself) are apt to have this ho-hum attitude about sin. We aren't perfect, and can never be perfect till Heaven, so if we sin, that's expected, right? We just ask God to forgive us, and move on, right? No, it's not just "all right". While it is certainly true that we will never be perfect until Heaven, we can and God expects this of us, become more holy, and sin less and less frequently. God doesn't have this same ho-hum attitude to sin, and neither should we.One area I took much encouragement from in my personal walk with God was Bridges' stories about his time in the service in the Navy. He admits to the difficulties and temptations, but speaks of how he overcame them with God's help. This shows me that I can get over my bad habits from my time in the Army, and keep the good habits, as well. I thank God for that.So much more nuggets of knowledge of how to be holy, and to convict of our sins, are contained in this study on holiness. If you read this, you will benefit too. I truly believe that. This book wasn't bad for a squid (had to get in my obligatory interservice jab at some point, right?). ;)I want to close the review by quoting a verse that speaks of the importance of Holiness in our lives. In the context of this verse in the Book of James, preaching the Word is presumed to be a high priority. James places good deeds as very important as well, but he places holiness as the most important aspect of the Christian faith.Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this, to visit the widows and orphans in their affliction, and to keep one's self unstained from the world." - James 1:27Highly Recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is classic book from Jerry Bridges and offers great insight into living a Holy life. From Body, mind, heart and will, all the areas are covered. By NavPress this has all the hallmarks of the Navigators Ministry: sound biblical teaching, continuous scripture references, and easy reading. This is a must read for anyone serious about pursuing God.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book. After reading Respectable Sins, I decided to read the Pursuit of Holiness by the same author. There were many good suggestions as to how to try to become more holy. Although it will always be a "struggle", studying the Bible, praying and searching for God's will through the help of the Holy Spirit must be done each and every day.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An immensely practical book for all who struggle with problems that keep one from achieving a life pleasing to God. The author comes down very hard on the side of personal responsibility for holiness. There has been general confusion in Christian circles about what God does and what we Christians are to do to achieve victory over the sins that so easily entrap us. According to Bridges,"The determination that 'I'll not do that anymore,', based upon sheer human resolve, has never once broken the shackles of sin. But there are practical principles which we can follow to train ourselves in godliness." 1) Frequent repetition--we say yes to sin and gradually become more inclined to that sin. We say no and the reverse happens. 2) Never let an exception occur. 3) Diligence in all areas is required to insure success in one area. An interesting concept that links all problem areas. 4) Don't be discouraged by failure. A highly recommended program for all who want to live free.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5"Though we think of of holiness in a more narrow sense of separation from impurity and moral evil, in its broad sense holiness is obedience to the will of God in whatever God directs." So be it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The MOST CONVICTING BOOK (besides Scripture) that I have ever read. It is a must have for any library, and I don't say that often - it is my favorite book of time up till now
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In an age when everyone is a Christian, this is a good correction to the easy believism prevelant in many parts of the church. Very practical also.
