About this audiobook

When the human and the vampire worlds collide, there will be hell to pay.

Luca Ambrus is a rare breed: vampire from birth, begotten by vampire parents, blood born. He is also an agent of the Council-the centuries-old cabal that governs vampirekind, preserving their secrecy and destroying those who betray them.

When a cryptic summons leads him to the scene of the brutal killing of a powerful Council member, Luca begins the hunt for an assassin among his own people. But instead of a lone killer he discovers a sinister conspiracy of rogue vampires bent on subjugating the mortal world.

All that stands in their way are the conduits, humans able to channel spirit warriors into the physical world to protect mankind. Chloe Fallon is a conduit-and a target of the vampire assassin who's killing them. When Luca saves her life, an irresistible bond of trust-along with more passionate feelings-is forged between them. As more victims fall, Chloe and Luca have only each other to depend on to save the world from the reign of monsters-and salvage their own future together.

I read Blood Born years ago, and loved it! I'd like to reread it and follow it with the second book. I believe it is called Warrior Rising. This storyline was quite interesting. Hopefully Scribd has the book. This would be a great series!

I did enjoy this book. There were a few hurdles to scale with learning to like the main characters especially Luca (a blood-borne vampire)but I found myself very interested in the overall story. This book ends with many dangling threads that I would like to see resolved.Unfortunately, I may never get to as the sequel "Warrior Rising" supposedly due out Spring of 2011, is still not available (9/2013). I don't usually start a series until at least 2 volumes are published and when I saw the ad (at the end of this book) for the second book I felt safe in reading this book. Oh well I guess I need to start actually looking to see if the book is available before I assume that it is.

A centuries old vampire assassin, a twenty-something restaurant manager with a heart condition, a kidnapped witch, immortal (although not deathless) warriors who require invitations to come over and die again, and some rogue vampires plotting to overthrow the status quo... it has its moments, but it's kind of a heavy read all things considered.

Even skimming, there was a lot of repetition and the only characters I liked were Nevada and Sorin (quasi-villains) but I'll probably end up reading/skimming the next one, assuming the person who lent me this one buys it (I won't).Some of the cultural stuff was seriously annoying (the presumption that people with Greek names are obviously not from the US for one. For another, while the male blood-born vampire stopped maturing in his early 30s, the female blood born vampire reached her physical maturity at age 16 which, aside from the ick factor, is also years before the human brain finishes developing, which is an ick of a different sort. Plus other stuff)

Blood Born is the first novel in a new paranormal romance series. For as long as the earth has been populated by humans there have also been vampires, some created by turning, others the rare form of being blood born. Someone has decided to end the status quo and start a revolution so the vampire race can finally come out of seclusion and gain their rightful place at the top of the food chain. The immortal warriors trying to come into this plane of existence need help by their conduits, the only trouble is that the vampires know this too and are systematically taking them out.Luca Ambrus is one of those rare blood born vampires and he’s been the chosen executioner for the vampire counsel for ages but there’s trouble afoot or afang and he’s uncertain which side to fight on. Chloe Fallon has been having strange dreams that seem all too real, she thinks she may be going nuts until one fateful night when everything that only lived in her nightmares became all too real.Ms’s Howard and Jones each have a rich following and that will certainly increase with their foray into the wonderful world of paranormal romance. It’s hard to start a new paranormal series when they seem to be everywhere, but have no fear because these talented women keep it fresh with subtle twists to the legends. If you like the kind of novel where there’s cover to cover hard edged dialogue you will love this one. The characters really shine as there is a very thin line between the villains and the heros, they’re all full of malfeasance along with redeeming qualities. The hero and heroine Luca and Chloe are unlikely lovers and the authors have brilliantly brought them together in-spite of it and made it work because their audience will definitely be pulling for this couple. The love scenes are physical and visceral and include very descriptive scenes, so keep this on a high shelf but bring it down often to enjoy a truly good new paranormal series. So with vampires exploding off the screen and pages of many books you might be asking yourself why should you try this one. I’ll say try it because you know the quality writing that preceded this work by these gifted storytellers and accomplished authors and stay tuned for the next installment In the series when Warrior Rising will be out in Spring of 2011.

Once upon a time (before Twilight & True Blood) this book may have been good movie material. Hollywood screenwriters and directors could have taken the authors' ideas and made a really good story. Unfortunately, good ideas also need good writers to make a good read. The book had several characters but their storylines were not managed well. The book jumped from character to character and storyline to storyline. Sometimes I had to go back to make sure I hadn't miss something. The characters make the book. For me, a good book is when I can relate to a specific character and put myself in the story. Personally, I didn't really like any of the characters so I didn't care what happened to them. Many details in the book are repeated over and over. I suppose since the recent vampire explosion in books and on film, the authors felt the need to thoroughly explain the specific abilities of their vampires. For example, some of these vampires can go out in the day time and they can eat food (other than blood). However, it was quite tiresome to hear again and again that Luca likes coffee but cannot reap the benefits of the caffeine. So, the story in a nutshell...Luca is a blood born (both his father and mother were vampires) and, therefore, has special abilities. Because he is so powerful he is the vampire executioner. He sometimes works for the vampire council as their enforcer. Chloe is a conduit. A conduit is someone whose ancestor is a warrior from a different realm and needs a conduit to "call them over" to fight in major battles. Rebel vampires want to take over the world and take humans as slaves. The ancient warriors are using their conduits all over the world to come over and fight the battle against the rebel vampires. The vampires are trying to kill the conduits before the warriors can make it over. Luca vows to protect Chloe and, of course, they fall in love.

Blood Born is the first book for me to read by either Linda Howard or Linda Jones. It has a lot promise to be a fascinating series in the world of vampires and the supernatural. The vampires are both beautiful and terrifying with their fair share of rotten apples. I like that because you never know what to expect from the vampires and the fact that they are all not beautiful to refreshing. There was also a mixture of other preternatural characters which I love to see in story, this keeps things fresh and open to so many possibilities. The characters' actions were entertaining and had a they had a multitude of colorful personalities. The plot well thought out and kept me wanting more, the pages kept turning even when one of my peeves about a book kept cropping up. It's what kept me yo-yoing between "I like this story" to "I love this story."The peeve was this story had the characters internalize their thoughts far more then what was necessary to the story. It made getting to the intriguing part of the story seem like awhile coming. I feel if some of the characters' rambling thoughts could of been cut out the story, it would of been more than terrific. I would of been beyond giddy with excitement for this series. All in all though, there is so much going and so much to explore in this new series that when Warrior Rising comes out next Spring, I'll be reading it with hopes some of the internal monologues will be toned down.Cover Note: I love the look of model for this cover. He has the most interesting and scrumptious jawline and mouth. *fans self*

A war is brewing. Vampires, Warriors and humans will all play a roll. Luca is blood born meaning he was born from two vampires. He works as the assassin of the Vampire Council. When the Council leader calls telling him to come in there is trouble is on it's way, he never thought that it would lead him straight to Chloe Fallon. While I had heard of both Linda Howard and Linda Jones, they were still new authors to me. So I was excited to read this one and see what their take on vampires was like. I wasn't let down. The world building was pretty amazing. Besides Luca & Chloe there are few other story lines going on in this book.Blood Born was an intense thrill ride, filled with drama and danger. I really liked the character of Luca. He's sexy, commanding and very tempting. Everything you like to find in a vampire. This was a good read. There were a few spots that were a bit slow for me, but other than that this book was fast, and action packed.
