About this audiobook
In the wilds of Topanga Canyon, Cassie Shaw is right at home-with the call of birds, the sound of wind in the trees, the harmony of a world without people. But everywhere else, life is a little harder for Cassie. Her mother believes in Big Foot. Her wisecracking pet parrot is a drama queen. And at the age of thirty, newly single and without a college degree, Cassie desperately needs a decent paycheck. Which is why, against all her principles, she lies on her résumé for an office job at an elite university-and then finds herself employed in academia by two professors who are as rare as the birds she covets.
One of her new bosses is Professor William Conner, a sexy, handsome, cheerfully aristocratic expert in animal behavior. Soon, under Conner's charismatic tutelage, Cassie carefully begins her personal transformation while meeting the kind of people who don't flock to wildlife preserves-from impossibly brilliant academics to adorably spoiled college boys. But her future-and unlikely new career-is teetering on one unbearable untruth. And Cassie's masquerade is about to come undone…in a chain of events that will transform her life-and the lives of those around her-forever.
A novel for late bloomers of every exotic shade and stripe, A Version of the Truth is pure entertainment-at once hilarious and wry, lyrical, and uplifting.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5More intelligent than the average chick lit genre where it is placed.Cassie Shaw has had a hard life. She is not school "smart." She has had a loveless marriage of three years, when her husband dies in a car accident, and she has no money and no future. She gets a job as an admin at a local California college and lied on her application that she is a college graduate. And here the trouble begins!I really loved this book. It was charming, delightful, well written (was it really written by 2 women? it was flawless!) intelligent, with wonderful characters and dialogue!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5very cute book!! Delightful read
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cassie Shaw has never done well in school, but she finds herself widowed young and completely broke, so she lies about her education to get a university job. This is an entertaining chick lit read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The audio was very sweet---I loved Sam, the parrot. The problems of what happens when the truth is just under the surface makes for an endearing story about an appealing girl, Cassie, who seems to have "almost" all of the qualities one would want in a young person, except for that little issue of not quite telling the truth when applying for a job.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it until the ending. The epilogue was an enormous cop-out.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. Cassie is such a lovable and relatable character. I wish there was more!
