About this audiobook
Sometimes the greatest evil lies within.
The Dragon King who rules the land of Mensandor is none other than Quentin, whose courage and heroism have transformed him from an orphaned servant into a war hero, respected leader, and fierce man of faith.
But even the powerful can fall prey to evil. The world is turned upside-down when the dark sorcerer Nimrood-long thought dead after a battle with the previous Dragon King-returns with a fearsome plan. Shattered by the death of a trusted friend, the abduction of his son, and loss of his enchanted sword, Quentin finds his faith tested like never before.
All of his skill and training comes down to this final battle . . . one that seems impossible to win.
In The Sword and the Flame, the final volume of Stephen R. Lawhead's captivating Dragon King Trilogy, the fate of the entire world depends on the outcome of this climactic battle between good and evil.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the third of the Dragon King Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. The evil necromancer, Nimrood, makes a return in this story and manages to kidnap Quentin's son. Thus a new quest is born. I think since writing these books, the author has learned something important about an antagonist. It is not enough just to have your characters tremble at the name of the antagonist - for a really delicious antagonist, there needs to be some deliberate and nasty thing done to the protagonist that really involves the reader. In this book I did not get that feel - but in later works by this author he does it wonderfully.Wo this trilogy is really for Lawhead completists, but some less exacting readers than me could well enjoy the questing and the journey of discovery the characters go through. I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, but it is still a good story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lawhead is always an enjoyable read. Great characters and storyline. Each chapter end draws you into the next.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5By read, I actually mean that I gave up on this trilogy. I can't imagine that this book would be any better than the previous two. Cliché piled on cliché, with powerless women and a bundle of fantasy stereotypes, compounded by over-elaborate, unnatural writing. I did used to like Lawhead's writing, but not so much in these books. It might have got better in the next book, but I have far too many books to hang around and wait for that. If you can't keep me interested, you're out.
(I find it odd how many high ratings it has here. Oh well! There's no accounting for taste. Maybe I'm missing something.)
