Sherrilyn Kenyon

This was a little to much Exposition and Foreshadowing. I was looking for a different style of Evil Entity for Nick to combat against with Dakota - this story line in Part two was about a plentiful as a pint of blood, not to satisfying. Though some information comes out - as foreshadowing of the future events, Nick's mom is a Real "B". I am not enthused with her martyrdom attitude and always yelling at Nick. IF my parents treated me 1/2 as bad as this woman treats her son, I would look the other way the next time a Demon comes

Nick is such a cool character and this makes me want to go back to the beginning of the series and re-read things. Here he's still in school, trying his best to keep out of trouble, trying to work out who he can trust, learning how to control powers that are starting to come to the surface and trying to work out how to deal with his coach who wants him to steal from the football team.Surviving high school may be a big issue with Nick and he's slowing figuring out who is who around him. It's an interesting series, it does help when you know some of the characters because some of the character quirks make sense and the messy backstory is interesting stuff. Left me wanting to read the next in the series right now.

Nick's second book and Mrs Kenyon has yet to disappoint. I really don't have much to comment that isn't praise. The story was fun and lighthearted, which I think is taking me a while to understand. When I pick up a Sherrilyn Kenyon novel I expect it to be a gripping novel full of heart ache and true love. Not the case with Nick, which is okay with me because he's only 14. He hasn't met the love of his life, and he's too young to have to go face to face with an epic evil. Once I realized that, I appreciate the story a lot more. The only thing I want to criticize is Kenyon's use of the word "pwning." :p I love her hip and witty writing but if memory serves, the act of "pwning" did not come into play until 2004 or onwards. I know I said that I don't have too much to criticize, which I don't, but I just wish that one day Sherrilyn would write a character whose voice isn't dripping with sarcasm. I understand that Nick's personality has already been defined, but new characters such as Bubba, Mark, Kody and Caleb should not all have to be smart asses. I would LOVE to see a character that is sincere. Those really are small things that don't interrupt the reading process, but they are just small things that I noticed. I loved all of the twists and turns that the novel brought and I loved seeing young Nick's interactions with characters like Aimee, Wren and Remi. Seeing everyone from Nick's eye was both fun and exciting. The story was interesting, it was not the main focus of the novel but it was still an interesting journey. Also, I love that Kenyon can write characters with so many dimensions, that's one of the reasons why I am in LOVE with (almost) everything she writes. She knows how to make her audience feel for her characters whether it's Cherise Gautier or the mysterious Ambrose. I recommend this novel for ALL Kenyon fans or anyone who just wants a fun novel to read.

I really love this series. It just keeps getting better and better. One thing I love about this series is Nick. He is such a great character that can not only be strong but has this great sense of humor that makes me laugh so much through the book. This book starts where the last book ended. Nick's school is still shut down and there are still some strange things going on. This time under the wing of a Dark Hunter, Nick begins to learn what his future has install for him. The plot line of this book is very fast and very easy to fall into. While I was reading this book, I hadn't even realize I was already on page 100, it went by so fast. That's how good it is. Every single word, every page is filled with non-stop action. As the reader, you just step in the world of Nick Gautier and you don't want to leave.Another thing I enjoyed about this book is the relationship with his mom. She is so sweet, caring mother that I adore this lady! She doesn't like to take charity and is very protective of her son. I like that while she is not caught up with what is actually happening in Nick life, she is always there for him. I love that she works hard and does what she can for Nick.Nick's friends are just crazier as ever! We learn more about Bubba, Caleb, and the rest of the zombie killing crew. I love reading more about these minor characters and their lives. Though it may seem that they are minor, they play a big part in Nick's like and his future. If you have not read this series, you should pick it up. It is definitely one great read and something you never forget. Nick and his adventure is something you want to read now!

Good young adult novel - some interesting tidbits for adult readers of Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series. Nick has to face more demonic problems, not including the onset of puberty. However, things seem to be looking up for him on the home front, as he settles into his new job with Kyrian, and his mom gets a new job at Sanctuary.

Review-Warning Has Spoilers In It, Be Wary. Also you must read Infinity before reading the second book, otherwise the book makes no sense.Let me preface, this by saying that I have always have loved Kenyon's books and I especially love the character of Nick Gautier very much. Also if you haven't read Kenyon's Dark Hunter and Dream Warrior series, this will make less sense. I was very happy to get this book in my hands. I did like the book, but found myself asking myself some pretty big questions. What I liked about the book was the humor. Nick has always been one of those characters who has a lot of humor to his personality. So I was pleased to say that I loved the one-liners and many other things that happened in this book. I like how Kenyon shows us that Nick has had to always struggle in some ways and that she also has changed his past.Kenyon allows us to go into Nick's world as a teenager and we see how hard his life was a teenager. Not to mention giving us an older version of Nick-Ambrose who has come back to prevent/change his destiny. I like that she gives us surprises and twists that we didn't see coming, yet at times it can be confusing (if you don't read Dark-Hunter/Dream Warrior novels this will be). Yet in the end it all comes together and starts to weave into a very believable world. She also brings in some new characters, that we haven't seen before, yet they claim that they have always been in the background. I love the characters of Kody (Nekoda), and Caleb and many others. Also I like the fact that some characters spring up a lot and this bothered me on some levels rarely make an apperance. One thing that bothered me was in the first book we saw a lot of Tabitha, in this book not a single appearance. I guess I'm bothered by that fact. (Tabitha is a major character in the Dark-Hunter novels, even got her own book). Bubba, shows up a few times, I mean he was a major player in the first book.We also get to see young Nick evolve and deal with things like any other teenager does, but he is also dealing with the Paranormal. Plus he has powers given/released by Ambrose (His Future Self) that he is learning to use. Also like that Ambrose has to deal with the consequences in many different ways. Like that Savitar made an appearance and told Ambrose that he shouldn't be interfering in his own timeline, because when you change things, bad things can happen. Sure enough, they do to his younger self. His younger self also has dating issues, then what teenager doesn't having girl/boy problems. Which I found cute. Also like the way Kenyon worked one of Nick's lessons into this book and found it kind of ironic, (because of what happens later on in the Dark-Hunter books to Nick's mom). Lesson of Ahab and Moby Dick about Revenge. He says people need to move on and not become obsessed. (Too bad, he will not heed his own advice in the Dark-Hunter books)There were times that the action was so good in these books. Yet the timeline keeps on changing in these books, that I sometimes need to draw a road map for the book. I think that Dark-Hunter, Dream Warrior, and Kenyon fans will like this book. I liked it for the humor and action packed ride, yet found myself troubled by the time changes and what effect that has had, because of Future Nick's-Ambrose's actions. Overall, a good bookRating: 4 Hearts out of 5 Hearts

I like chronicles of Nick series the best, because it doesn't have all the sex scenes in them but great story lines. I wish ash and nick can get their friendship back. Nick is a teen age boy who is learning about a whole different life in the shadows with different powers he is comming into. He has different people around him that want different things for him. Some want to kill him and take his powers before he can learn them. some are his protectors. We know that thier is a lot of deception around him. Nick is not sure who trust. Thier a lot of familar characters of the dark hunter world of books. Because the past has been changed you dont know how those characters can be changed too. I enjoyed the book.

Book 2 of the Chronicles of Nick that picks up right where book 1 left off and now there is a brand new principal who instantly thinks Nick is a criminal and a brand new football coach, who believes the same thing and blackmails Nick.

Meanwhile, Nick has a new tutor to show him more of his powers, and he's getting to know those protecting him a little better, and a few of the secrets they were keeping from him.

Not as good as the first book in the series, but there were still funnies and snarky, sarcastic comebacks that had me laughing.

Some of the characters from the first book were left out, but new ones were introduced.

Book 2 of the Chronicles of Nick picks up right after the events of book 1. Nick is slowly realizing that he is surrounded by beings that only seem human, and that most of them want him dead. This, however, doesn't make him any less of a smart-ass. Nick also learns that he is fated to destroy the world unless something seriously changes and begins to suspect that his “Uncle” Ambrose might not be who he says he is.

Fast-paced and a lot of humor, but Kenyon takes care to deepen some of her characters along the way, lending some depth to the story. Nick is a fourteen-year old boy, which means that at various points in the book, everybody (the reader included) wants to smack him, but he has a good heart and it's easy to root for him.

The second book in Kenyon's young adult series "The Chronicles of Nick" starts exactly where the first left off, with Nick suddenly noticing that his new boss, Kyrian, has elongated teeth. Is he a vampire? Something worse? If that wasn't enough to worry about, Nick finds out that there's a new principal, a new coach, his new powers unleashed but unschooled, and a rash of thefts at school for which he is the prime suspect as the poor scholarship student. These books are the sort of fluffy fun I enjoy when life is hectic. Nick is fourteen and a smart-talking, sarcastic New Orleans native. The story is fantasy - involving demons, zombies, and the world of the Dark Hunters - but set in our world rather than a magical one. This is a quick read and funny and not too complicated, and essentially fit the bill for what I was in the mood for in the moment.

Again pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this series, but it has turned out to be fun. I love the characters, and I find myself chuckling throughout the whole book. Most of the characters are extremely sarcastic, and I can relate.

Nick's learning and adventures into the supernatural world continue. The arrival of Coach Divas who singles Nick out as his lackey adds a new wrinkle to Nick's life as well.Richly described scenes and characters fill the story. Characters from previous episodes continue to develop and grow while new characters are introduced who also develop. The narrative has multiple focuses with the shorter resolving within this book and the overarching storyline continuing onward. Plenty of action is present throughout the book which adds to the intensity of the story. However, humor is interspersed enough to allow for greater enjoyment.Overall, a fun read!

This was a easy quick read. It wasn't as involved in the DH characters of old and maybe that is why I didn't like it as much as the first but both were 4 1/2 stars, just this one was on the lower side. I enjoyed it greatly and am finding that getting to know Nick is more interesting than I thought it would be. Still I can see after several of these, I will tire of the series. I'm sure Kenyon will take it on some arc or another but that has a 50/50 hit or miss probability as that is what happened with the DH after about 8 or 10 books. Well complaining before it even comes out is not fair really but... one book a year?

OK, really good UF story and story line. The background story is growing but we don't feel to much like a cliffhanger because we DH fans know what is coming... more or less. I just had one issue with the story line here and that was Grim. I don't understand why Nick takes Grim at his word and trusts him. Why has he not discussed Grim with any of the other people around him? Even so I would recommend this to any DH fan.

Two books down, so far so good.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Another fast-paced, hysterically witty addition to an already fascinating spin off series. We see more characters we love from Kenyon’s other books, but there is a lot of build up to this plot that makes most of the plot twists obvious to a careful reader. Opening Sentence: They say when you’re about to die, you see your entire life flash before your eyes. The Review: This is the second installment in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s spin off and prequel young adult series about Nick Gautier, but she does a great job explaining everything. You don’t have to read the Dark Hunters series to understand what’s happening, which is great because they’re written for two totally different audiences. Both of the books are fast paced and between them only a few days actually happen, though it does seem longer. Invincible picks up right where Infinity left off, so you definitely have to read them in order for the series to make any sense. There’s a lot up in the air in this book. Nick’s trying to deal with the zombie attacks and his new supernatural powers, the new friends he’s making because of these powers, and his relationship with his mother who he loves more than anyone. If you can read this book and not fall in love with Nick Gautier it’ll be a miracle. He’s smart, funny, and always has the perfect (usually smart ass) comeback. As the hero of this series, Nick’s perfect because he’s not perfect and knows it. Nick is spending this book trying to take control of his powers with the help of Grimm (Death). Nick has to learn the 10 lessons to harness his powers as the Malachi or the entire world ends. As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, at the same time teenage boys are dying all around the city and Nick seems to be being stalked. Given the zombie catastrophe that struck the school in Infinity, they’ve hired a new football coach–and Nick’s not sure he’s all that he says he is. This book has a lot more characterization than Infinity, which made for a number of touching moments for the reader. The witty conversation reveals a lot about the characters, even as it helps move the plot forward. And the plot isn’t what you’d expect of a vampire/werewolf story. First, they aren’t really vampires, but Dark Hunters and also because it’s so involved in necromancy, ancient magic, and the gods. And zombies, we can’t forget they have zombies! Perhaps one of the best aspects of Invincible is that Nick has grown up. The annoying boy from the first book is gone, and Nick is ready to head into this supernatural world to keep his mom safe. It was an incredibly easy book to read, probably because the plot line was so action packed and the characters so much fun. It was constructed a lot better than the first book where the author was trying to keep secrets from the reader and only succeeded in making it more confusing. But be warned: There are cliffhangers! You’re going to be dying for the third book when you finally get to put this one down. It’s going to be hard to wait for the third book, Infamous, which hits shelves February 1, 2012. Notable Scene: It took him a moment to realize Death was speaking to him. ”What?” “Do. You. Want. A. Cookie?” He could have done without the tone that said Death thought he was a moron. When Death offers you a cookie, or anything else, refuse. Yeah, that definitely seemed like the wisest course of action. Chronicles of Nick Series: 1. Infinity 2. Invincible 3. Infamous FTC Advisory: St. Martin’s Griffin provided me with a copy of Invincible. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyThis series is a blast! Sherrilyn Kenyon continues to reinvent the character of Nick Gautier (made famous in her adult paranormal romance series, Dark-Hunter) by turning back the clock to when he was a teenager and allowing him (and those around him) to make different decisions that then ripple out and change his future/history in several key ways. It’s brilliant really because this approach allows both old and new readers to fully embrace the Chronicles of Nick series as a completely separate, yet complimentary, entity.Nick is once again the same completely self-deprecating character that charmed me in INFINITY. He’s got more friends this time and he’s beginning to scratch the surface of his formidable powers, but he still deals with bullies, his smothering mother, and girl troubles (why is the most popular girl in school suddenly into him?). He also has several new problems to juggle including magic tutoring from Death, a new football coach who literally wants to kill him, and hoards of demons who are trying to collect on the newly placed bounty on his head. Never a dull moment for Nick. Not quite as good as INFINITY, but still excellent in it's own right, INVINCIBLE is a great read for any age and any sex. While you don’t need to have read the Dark-Hunter series to enjoy this book (and those are definitely not YA), you probably do need to read INFINITY first since INVICIBLE picks up immediately after the events from that book and Kenyon doesn’t waste time rehashing what’s already happened. No word yet on the title or release date for the next book in the Chronicles of Nick book, which frankly borders on cruel given the awesome/horrible way INVINCIBLE ended. Whatever it’s called, wherever it comes out, I’ll be reading it.Sexual Content: Kissing
