Примечание редактора

Communication is key…

This powerful tome by revered Buddhist monk and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh is full of positive aphorisms, which reveal that intentionality is the key to effective self-expression.

Описание

Zen master Thick Nhat Hanh, bestselling author of Peace is Every Step and one of the most respected and celebrated religious leaders in the world, delivers a powerful path to happiness through mastering life's most important skill.

How do we say what we mean in a way that the other person can really hear?

How can we listen with compassion and understanding?

Communication fuels the ties that bind, whether in relationships, business, or everyday interactions. Most of us, however, have never been taught the fundamental skills of communication — or how to best represent our true selves. Effective communication is as important to our well-being and happiness as the food we put into our bodies. It can be either healthy (and nourishing) or toxic (and destructive).

In this precise and practical guide, Zen master and Buddhist monk Thick Nhat Hanh reveals how to listen mindfully and express your fullest and most authentic self. With examples from his work with couples, families, and international conflicts, The Art of Communicating helps us move beyond the perils and frustrations of misrepresentation and misunderstanding to learn the listening and speaking skills that will forever change how we experience and impact the world.

In general, I do like the book. The concepts have been expressed simply and, one might even say, simplistically. However, they are indeed hard to follow. The one thing that I would recommend to anyone, is that they read 'The Art of Mindfulness" first, and live that, before they approach this book. The danger in these books, in my opinion, is that if they are practised superficially then, you end up suppressing a lot of anger and other negative emotion. So, do practise the principles, but not in isolation.

I began to listen to this book when I was upset with my beloved partner. This book got me truly present.

Excellent suggestions of tools to use in nearly ANY situation we may face that might be difficult to communicate our true needs. I’m tempted to buy the paperback so that i have these tools on shelf for reference. Especially in regards to the peace treaty, such a great idea. We will implement this in our household.

I enjoyed this book and the perspective. A lot of great principles that I will put in place, I definitely suggest taking these principles and making them your own.

Overall has some good ideas and tips to help you communicate and stay calm but I found the book to be a bit too much of the good vibes thing like for example the author suggests at one point to hug while concentrating on your breath; the says that airports should be build so people can hug that way. Granted this is the most extreme example but some of it still goes into that direction. It's definitely a book where you pull from it what you find useful and ignore the rest. I would, based on my taste, not recommend it

This is one of the books that changed my life. Non-preachy, practical... it just really reframed for me what other people hear when I say things... and how to reframe/really hear what they say.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have functional relationships!
