About this audiobook

It’s been ten years since a mysterious incident in the South China Sea annihilated a US Navy destroyer and its Navy SEAL team. Only one man survived this horrific tragedy.  Now, as more of these strange, supernatural events are happening around the world—with deadly consequences—the US Navy calls on sole survivor Harold “Hawk” Masters to put a stop to the evil forces behind these crimes.

Masters reluctantly returns, dispatched to lead an elite team of soldiers like him—all survivors of the terrifying, evil deeds of “the other side.” As these frightening events escalate at an alarming rate, SEAL Team 13 is put to the test, battling malevolent undead creatures that threaten the security of the nation—and the world.

But not everyone supports the government’s new interest in facing off against the unnatural forces that threaten the welfare of its citizens. Could Hawk Masters’ secret military force also be forced to fight shadowy opponents from within?

From world-building author Evan Currie, SEAL Team 13 is a dark, riveting, and action-packed tale of military intrigue and supernatural horror.

Evan Currie

Bestselling Canadian author Evan Currie has an imagination that knows no limits, and he uses his talent and passion for storytelling to take readers everywhere from ancient Rome to the dark expanses of space. Although he started out dabbling in careers such as computer science and the local lobster industry, Currie quickly determined that writing the kinds of stories he grew up loving was his true life’s calling. Beginning with the techno-thriller Thermals, Evan has expanded the universe within his mind with acclaimed series including Archangel One, Warrior’s Wings, the Scourwind Legacy, the Hayden War Cycle, and Odyssey One. He delights in pushing the boundaries of technology and culture, and exploring the ways in which these forces intertwine and could shape the future of humanity—both on Earth and among the stars. Couple of things.
I like mil-sci-Fi and this story is not a new one but it is fairly clever and adds Vampires who look like Zombies. Who doesn’t love the whole schmear?

Background: Something bad happens to ships at sea, SEAL cmdr survives but is ostracized and put out to pasture, goes into leave-me-alone mode until a new threat arrives and some evil admiral forces him back to active duty.

Mil-Wise: Amazing how many heavily armed, highly trained SEALS, NG, and State Troopers don’t shoot at immediate, obvious and lethal threats. Nor do they actually communicate very well as in “There’s a buncha bad guys here so get us some help asap” or when asking for air support don’t actually say what they need for the threat. It makes the characters seem kind of lame to me.

Faith-wise: I really didn’t like the anti-Christian vibe dissing both the cross and the crucifix and suggesting that old Viking “gods” were going to save us all. Not for me so I bailed out about halfway through.
Not terrible but I draw the line on faith.
