I like Jesse & Ava's passion. The dramatic twists & turns kept it interesting though not very realistic. At times Jesse's quirks dominated the 2 previous books & became tiresome. So glad to have explanation about his influences in this 3rd book.

The characters are likeable - occasionally I thought Ava was a little annoying but not overly so that it ruined the read, loved Jesse's alpha-maleness, Kate was a fun secondary character as was Sam. I liked that at the end of the book, Jesse is still left as a bit of a mystery, you don't know that much about him- it is something to look forward to in the next books as hopefully they shed some more light on his character. I thought the ending to the book was good, although as I love Jesse I didn't really like how it ended for him. It was a perfect start to the series.

So... you've guessed it I suppose, like every woman in the planet who read Fifty Shades of Grey and can't let go or re-read it one more time, I went looking for all the substitution white and black books that reads "Not for younger audiences" and in plain sight confirms "Erotica"!

This one so far is also interesting but so similar to both Fifty Shades and Crossfire series that it feels like re-reading a different draft with different names. I like the fact that Ava is an interior designer. But all in all, I'm still not impressed, but I'm enjoying reading the characters with British accents in my mind for fun!

Gosh! Rubbish! The whole "Watch your mouth!" and "Lady!" business was such a turn off! Jesse Ward is no Christian Grey that's for sure. He's kind of creepy and scary... if he followed me I would've given him a restraining order.

He's abusive, scary, rude and honestly very vulgar. Christian had class; please stop saying they're anything alike. All the characters in this book are messed up even the friendships. I'm not sure if I will continue with the series, in all honesty I'm disappointed.

5 stars. I went into this knowing it would be a hit or miss. This was definitely a HIT for me! Maybe the timing was right because I really enjoyed it. Jesse, Jesse, Jesse! Wow. You drive me crazy but I love it. Man, he is Hot Hot Hot! He's still a mystery and I can't wait to figure him out!

There were many times I wanted to throw this book against the wall but I cannot do that to a book. I stayed with it because a) I wanted to know how long Ava would put up with his behavior, b) I bought the trilogy, c) I was interested in these characters and their story line. Jesse ticked me off a lot. I would probably have killed him but Ava kept making excuses and putting up with his behavior. I do not care how handsome he was nor how hot, his actions drove me crazy. I liked the bonus scene at the end in Jesse's voice. I did like Ava. She had a back bone but she needed to learn how to use it to bring Jesse into line. A very interesting couple.

uhmm.... yeah this was a tough one to get through. There were places in this book that just didn't make any scenes at all. The only reason I finished this was so that I could find out whet the Manor was. I'm giving this book 2 1/2 stars. It had so much potential!!

    ***review update 11/30/13

Ok I did a re-read of this book and still didn't like this book all that much. I think it had to with Ava. She is just a damn door mat to Jesse. This chick so just needed to stick with her guns and stop letting other people make decisions for her. with that said I have started to read the second book.

I was wierded out by the similarity of this book to Fifty Shades of Grey, but I must say I enjoyed this one much more. For one thing, the main male character didn't make me as irritated. The main female character was a little more irritating (especially since even I got what The Manor was right off the bat), but she was less irritating in a "this is not a real personality" and more like "I don't really like this chick... too pretentious." Anyways, I liked this book enough I'm eagerly looking for the second one. Although having the end of this book be the end of a romance ("the end" end) for once would be a welcome change someday.

First person, present tense is really tough even for great writers. This reads like really bad sexting. If you've already purchased this book, the pages make for good decoupage projects.

I liked the book, the writing was very good. There is a lot of meat even with it being a trilogy. However, both main characters were a bit over the top, the man is more than just over the top, or a bit nutty. And she thinks 'wisely' but acts like a fucking idiot. So, these two were bugging me throughout the book, but even so I really liked it. I started reading the next one right after I finished the last words of this one!

    There were somethings that I really didn't like about this book;
the repeat phrases and words, there must have been about a hundred "watch your mouth"'s in there, and the 'lady' this and 'lady' that was bugging me so much that I went and edited my copy, there were 58 references to 'lady' in the first book alone!!! 58 times he calls her lady in same way, 'you drive me crazy lady', 'hey, lady, come here'. Oh.My.God it was annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, I didn't like how 98% of the book was a sex scene (or 50, then 1% was work, and the last 1% was friend dynamics. The two main characters I don't think had a single conversation! It was all interrogation, fighting, arguing, seduction, or sex talk.

But regardless of my grievances, I did like the book a lot. Again, very well written.

Oh Ava, Ava, Ava. Why couldn't you just TALK to this man who had you so twisted and turned around? I spent the entire book wondering why they couldn't just speak to each other like, oh I don't know...adults? She behaved like a spoiled child 99% of the time. Making assumptions, jumping to conclusions constantly. It all could have been solved by a short conversation.

I appreciate Jesse, I like a good Alpha. He is hot, he is into her, he is possessive. All good things. But Ava is way too immature to handle a relationship with him. They are so dysfunctional, it's painful.

I will read the next one, with hopes that Ava can actually grow the hell up.

Holy Shit batman What A Ride .

I got this book because of all the talk of my fellow GR chics who where discussing it a few days ago.I thank Them for talking about it and reading it, Otherwise I never would of found this Book.

This book was way more then I thought it would be originally . I did not truly expect to LOVE this Book but I did .

Being that it was based on Characters From London , I found myself laughing more in more with the language in the book as I have to very close friends who live in London , and I hear Bloody and fag all the time from them amongst other things like Cow hahahahah , So that in itself had me cracking up everytime I saw one of their famous words in this Book,.

Jesse I LOVED, although he is really crazy at times in the book , I still found myself laughing at some of the way he behaved with his protectiveness and etc. His constant swearing at Ava to "Watch your fucking mouth" had me LMAO @ him .. he needs to chill out some though.

Ava , Damn is it that hard to Open your mouth and ask a question to something your pondering around in your head ??? No instead you ask silly mindless questions instead of the Important ones. Her constant asking Jesse his age and him giving her one age up from the last time she asked had me laughing too . She really needs to open her mouth and say when something bothers her rather then go full force on him about things she knows will set him off.

I am glad the next book comes out next month , I always dislike when a Book is left hanging at the end ....

Beneath This Man is due Christmas. Definite date due soon. Book 3 (untitled) Spring next year.....

London, EnglandAva O’Shea is a young interior designer. She never expected what she found at the Manor. Ava thought she was just doing a run-of-the mill consultation with a stodgy country gentleman. What she finds instead is Jesse Ward, a pleasure-seeking playboy who is devastatingly handsome and utterly confident and who has absolutely no boundaries. Ava doesn’t want to be attracted to Jesse, but she has an overwhelming desire for him that she has no control over. Her instincts are telling her to run and she knows that her heart isn’t going to survive Jesse. What she doesn’t count on is Jesse refusing to let her go. Jesse is determined to have her. This is the first book in a trilogy that starts out very hot. If the other books live up to this one this is going to be one trilogy that will be a very hot read. The characters are well written and complex. The reader learns more about Jesse as Ava learns about him. The story takes a few twists and turns that keeps the story moving very well. The story ends with a bit of a cliffhanger that will have readers wanting to read the other books to find out just what happens with Ava and Jesse. The story pulls the reader in and keeps them reading until the very end. It also has some humor that keeps the story from being too heavy throughout the story. It gives the reader breaks from the more emotional parts of the story. It will definitely have readers wanting to check out more from this author.

BDSM and hot possessive love at its best! My jaw dropped as I read this book. Fifty Shades move over the Lord of the Manor is here! I never imagined the love scenes could be soooo hotttt!!!!!!!!! Jesse is such a strong character. You know there are secrets he will not reveal easily, but he is in love and he is not letting her go anywhere without him.

Solid 3 star read that has potential to be a 5 star read. If only this author hired an editor to help her cut about 75 pages of text and encourage her to add a preview of the next book. I was lucky to have the second book ready to go at the last page of this one. I'm not certain I would keep reading this series if I was left with This Man'slast pages as my ending. While I am eager to see a HEA for Jesse and Ava, based on this one book I was left frustrated. I find Jesse to be an intriguing character while Ava's thoughts and actions cannot be trusted. Despite having 7 years of long term relationships to draw on, it seems she has learned absolutely nothing about men. She says she loves Jesse but not enough to stop thinking only of herself and give him the respect of listening to him when something/any little thing does not go her way. She lies to everyone without remorse, her personality radiates immaturity, insecurity and sexual inexperience. I'm not sure the author was going for unlikable heroine meets hot, dysfunctional rich guy with literal scars he refuses to discuss. Some solid editing of Ava's thoughts and reactions could prevent the dislike that develops toward her character.

I read this book because of the rave reviews. I have to tell you my eyes were continuously rolling in aggravation for most parts of this book. Jesse Ward is a domineering, controlling, stalking and crass character, who most likely is bipolar. The man just aggravates me to no end. On the plus side, some of why he is the way he is, is made clearer towards the end of the book and the sex scenes were hot.Not even sure at this point if I'll follow the series or not. I would like to see a better side to Jesse but if I don't get it in the next book I'm just gonna scream.

I enjoyed this book! Yes, Jesse is a control freak and obsessive and domineering but, because I have read all 3 books before leaving a review, I understand why. Which is why if you are going to start this series, you HAVE to give it a shot and finish it all the way through. It is more than worth it!! Even without knowing why he is the way he is, I was totally hooked on Jesse from the beginning though. I think him and Ava make a great couple who make a lot of steam, then throw their friends in the mix and you get a ton of humor! What's not to like? Definitely recommend!

This book...this book was a struggle for me to read. First of all, it starts off incredibly slowly and is rather boring. I figured out, about halfway through, that I needed to listen to music (specifically, fast-tempo pop--no ballads) in order to get through it. It was just that difficult. Secondly, the characters are so messed up that it isn't even funny. Third, there are some stylistic things that I didn't like. Jesse calls Ava "lady" all the time, and that gets really annoying. But the biggest struggle? Well, the relationship between Ava and Jesse is very unhealthy. How unhealthy? I'm pretty sure that domestic violence experts would agree that it falls within the confines of an abusive relationship. Don't believe me, let's check out a "checklist" to see just how dangerous this relationship is.Do you feel afraid of your partner much of the time? Yes. She is constantly trying to take time away from the relationship, and when Jesse obsessively calls and texts her, she becomes fearful. She becomes even more afraid of him when she's doing this avoidance and he pounds on her door for hours on end.Do you avoid certain topics out of fear of angering your partner? Yes. Anytime that she asks Jesse about a scar on his torso, he clams up. She eventually figures out not to ask about this. Now, some might argue that this is an example of personal boundaries, but considering that his "clamming up" involves him either completely shutting down around her or using sex as a weapon, she learns just not to ask him about it.Does your partner humiliate or yell at you? Yes. Jesse humiliates Ava regularly. He comes into her office and picks her up, in front of her co-workers, and carries her out, over his shoulder, so that he can then yell at her in the street. (They're still in view of her co-workers.)Does your partner treat you so badly that you’re embarrassed for your friends or family to see? Yes. She doesn't want Kate to witness his craziness, but, at the same time, she does want her to see it because Kate keeps telling her to go full-speed into the relationship.Does your partner criticize you and put you down? Does your partner blame you for their own abusive behavior? Does your partner destroy your belongings? Yes. It is always Ava's fault that Jesse is pissed off. It is always her fault that he stalks her or calls her or acts jealous. He never owns up to his bad behavior and always blames her. He also tells her that she can't wear certain clothes because he is convinced that she is trying to get other men to pay attention to her. He even cuts a recently purchased dress up because of this. And, though it is never fully established in this novel, he appears to be behind her birth control pills going missing not once, not twice, but three times. Three times he gets rid of them. Reproductive coercion is abuse.Does your partner see you as property or a sex object, rather than as a person? Does your partner force you to have sex? Yes. She is his. He says this several times. Like I already mentioned, any time that she does anything he doesn't like, he takes it out on her sexually. He calls it a "sense f*ck" and it happens rather often. And when she's going out to a club one night, he comes into her bedroom unannounced/uninvited as she gets ready, kisses her and then begins having sex with her. There is no consent and, after he's done, she asks if it is him because it happens so quickly and unexpectedly.Does your partner have a bad and unpredictable temper? Does your partner act excessively jealous and possessive? Does your partner control where you go or what you do? Oh. My. God. Yes. Ava gets drunk, Jesse gets angry. Ava wants to go to work, Jesse gets angry. Ava has other clients at work, Jesse cancels their appointments. Ava wants to go home, Jesse moves her into his house without asking her. If she tries to leave, suggests that she wants to go out, he tells her no and that she has to stay at his place. When she gets upset that he wants to control her, he tries to placate her by inviting Kate over to hang out with her while she is gone. BUT...they have to stay at his place to hang out. As for jealousy, yes. He's excessively jealous. He doesn't want her to talk to other men, including a gay co-worker. He physically assaults an ex-boyfriend of hers while they're just talking.Does your partner constantly check up on you? Yes. If she doesn't answer the phone when he calls, he calls again and again and again...He sends multiple texts. He calls the secretary at her office (and berates her) when Ava is at work. He nearly beats her door down several times when she tries to go to her place with Kate. He has a bouncer at a club keep and eye on her, without her knowledge. He shows up at the house of one of Kate's clients just as Ava's about to be assaulted by a man. He shows up at another club right when she's talking to her ex and, as I mentioned earlier, attacks the ex.In reality, this kind of relationship would not be viewed as a romantic one. It would be viewed as a dangerous and abusive one, because that's what it is. And the way it's handled in this book is just awful. Her friends think he loves her so much. His friends think that, too. I get why she would think his abuse is love, because abuse victims end up feeling that way, but I don't get why outsiders don't seem to notice how messed up this whole situation is.So, yeah, I didn't like this book. I will probably check out the last two books in the series because I'm wondering if he ends up killing her by the end of it. A relationship that starts out this abusive would probably end that way. I also want to see how long it takes her to realize that he's trying to force her to get pregnant.

Yowza, this book has some serious problems and I am truly astonished its ratings on GR are so high. I am all in favour for a possessive, controlling hero, if he's still a gentleman and knows where the line is drawn, but, unfortunately, I now know what bat shit crazy really means, and not in a positive way.

Mr. Superhero, Jesse Ward, is controlling to the point of ridiculousness and has some serious stalker issues. In real life, I would take out a restraining order against him. He manipulates to the point of whether and when the heroine, Ava O'Shea, is allowed to go to the toilette, controls her with constant telephone calls and impedes her working day, and all in a very un-sexy way.

I like alphas, but usually with a true alpha hero it's about "his" woman's security and well-being, in this case it's just to go on my nerves as no true caring and consideration was shown between Jesse and Ava.

Oh, they do have lots of sex, and it's even well described and steamy in a hot vanilla way, but sex alone does not a loving hero make. And talking about sex here, I really like reading anal sex scenes (it comes with the erotic romance territory) but on the first night, without ANY other preparation than a couple of fingers, no lube, no condom (because we are clean *wink wink*), is neither sexy nor realistic.

To me the most annoying part in the story was the hero's tendency to bark "mouth" at the heroine when she used words like fuck or shit. It's not like Ava has a bad language, but she enjoys using the words in the heat of the moment. And like a mother hen who worries about her daughter's potty mouth, Jesse scolds Ava, but still uses swear words himself. While I don't like books where fuck is part of the vocabulary in every other sentence, I find it realistically done the way Ava used them and Jesse’s reaction just plain stupid. Maybe there’s a reason for that “mouth” issue which is described later on in the book, but I honestly don’t care to find out anymore. F

ABOUT THE BOOK:Young interior designer Ava O’Shea has an appointment for a first consultation at The Manor with the owner, Mr Jesse Ward. She is expecting nothing more than an overweight, cravat wearing, well-to-do countryman, and on arrival, nothing would suggest otherwise. How wrong could she be? This Man is devastatingly handsome, charming and confident. He is also a conceited, hedonistic playboy, who knows no boundaries. Ava desperately does not want to be attracted to him, but she can’t control the overwhelming affect he has on her. Every instinct is telling her to run, so she does, but Jesse Ward is not so willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her. She knows she is heading for heartbreak, but how can she run when he won’t let her.MY REVIEW:I’m torn on this book. And I’m torn for a few valid reasons. Okay, first and foremost let me just get this out there: I could not put this book down. Despite my issues with it, I was fully engaged, and actually had to wait (because I refused to put them down) until I was well into the third book in the series, before writing my review. The drama really had my breath catching and with each page turned, there was some new twist that literally had me squeezing my e-reader tighter. Yes, it was that angsty. That being said, I have a few issues with this (these) books. One, the relationship these two are in is completely unhealthy. I have never had a hero and heroine that I have disliked so much or frowned upon so much in my entire reading life. That’s saying a bit, especially since Fifty Shades wasn’t so keen on the healthy relationships either. These two did more destruction to one another, hurt, and brought out the worst in each other more than any other couple I’ve read about or known.Which leads to my second issue. One moment the heroine would be strong, standing up for something she believes in, and rightly putting the hero in his place. In the next second she’d be on her back, having sex, and nothing would be resolved. It led to another circle altogether with additional issues to arise. It was extremely frustrating and I again, a huge turn off. The last issue was the writing. There was a lot of repetition and telling in this book, and I felt as if the two took me out of the character’s heads and reminded me I was merely reading the book, not experiencing it. Outside of those issues though, again, I would say I had to keep reading, and had to see what was going to happen next. I really wish I liked these two characters more, but if I’m completely honest, the only reason I continued to turn the page was because it was like a train wreck and I couldn’t look away. I will check out more from this author in the future, although if the characters are like this, I doubt I’ll finish them. All in all, I enjoyed this read. 3.5 stars out of 5.
