About this audiobook
Do you believe in love at first phone call?
Cohen Rodriguez, Deo's hilarious, über responsible best friend in Lengths, got dumped by his longtime girl because he's "not impulsive enough," and he's burned up.
But maybe, just maybe, she's more right than he wants to admit. So he starts to date.
A lot. But no one really feels like the one. And the more girls he dates, the more Cohen's convinced she isn't really out there.
Luckily he has Maren-the girl with the sexy voice who always cracks the best jokes. They've been talking daily for a year . . . on the phone. What started as all work soon blooms into friendship.
Then she asks him.
Do you want to meet?
He's scared out of his mind to ruin the one easy, fun relationship he has going for him. But he takes the plunge, and things are just fine, totally easy and comfortable. Except that they both sense that it's not strictly platonic. There's an undeniable attraction and absolute raw chemistry between them . . . and every time they're in the same room, that attraction gets deeper and harder to ignore.
Maren could be the best thing that's ever happened to Cohen. Or she could send his carefully compartmentalized life into a tailspin.
Cohen has to decide if he's ready to let go of his comfortable fantasy and embrace the one girl who might be able to change his luck in love.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love the MexiJew Cohen and Mauren. Their story was great. Liz and Steph did an excellent job, yet again with drawing you into their story! I love the ending and how it solidified Deo's story. I have to say, the smexin in this book is a bit hotter than Lengths but lacks the angst that it had... but I'd say it's a pretty awesome trade off!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I had really high expectations for this. It wasn't bad, which is why I'm giving it three stars.
But after reading Lengths (and I really liked that one for Deo's character because he was so awesome, but I hated the girl), and A Toast for the Good Times by this NA duo, I've come to the conclusion that... all their male characters are the same.
Sorry to say. They are sappy and mopey and so freaking annoying with their clingy personalities, I think I kept rolling my eyes reading this. I'm not admitting to anything, but at one point I might have banged my head on my Kindle.
Cohen came across as so... weak. Sure, he has a great sense of humor, I loved him with Deo (<3) and Whit (who seemed to have gotten some personality in this book, yay), but god, was he pathetic or what? I just don't know, he had these shiny moment when he seemed to step up and be a man, but other times I wanted to gag at just how unmanly he was.
I didn't really like Maren either. I understood her struggles and all, but have some backbone. She had everyone stomping all over her - her mother and sister who left her with an alcoholic dad, her dad that is basically mooching off her to the point of being just plain rude, her co-workers, that scumbag Jason, and Ally. So annoying.
The conflict fell a little flat for me. She cries, he swoops in and saves the day with his kisses.
I think the highlights of this story were Deo and Marigold moments because they're just awesome like that.
The writing, like I said, is the same as their other books. Yes, it's fun and flirty, but I've read it all before.
It's written in first person present.
Oh, the title of this book is mentioned ten times. I love playing the spot-the-title game when I read a book. This took it to the next level where I was annoyed at how much they emphasized these depths.
Anywhoo, I feel like I should say a few good things about it so it doesn't sound like it's all negative, because it's not. I genuinely liked parts of this book, I just can't think of what exactly I liked about it. I loved the storyline (but please be aware that she never asks him if he wants to meet her, like the blurb says).
There wasn't much drama, and I liked that as well.
I liked supporting characters, especially Cohen's sisters.
There are a couple of graphic sex scenes in this, for those who like to know these things. They were... making love rather than having sex, if that makes any sense. I wuv you, I wuv you too...
It just rubbed me the wrong way (no pun intended whatsoever, lmao).
Overall it was a light read that has that feelgood vibe about it, and if you can deal with being in Cohen's head (he never wants her to leave, she belongs in his house, she's gorgeous every time he looks at her, he wants true lurve, etc., etc.), I say read it. I did want to know Cohen after reading Lengths and I got my wish. It was definitely worth $0.99 I paid for it.
