The hero is horrible and basically managing the *systematic and deliberate* torture and death of a whole section of people. Essentially, a race based killing spree.
    Nice.

    My Thoughts:

This is actually the first book I’ve read in the IMMORTALS AFTER DARK series, so with that said I’ll say that DREAMS OF A DARK WARRIOR works fine as a stand alone novel. Just be warned that once you read this one, you’ll eagerly look for the previous titles in the series. This is a great story, there’s a touch of everything from suspense to romance. I have to say that you’ll love and hate DeClan right along with Regina. There are many secondary characters you’ll adore, funny moments mixed in with dark moments and it’s all tied together seamlessly. I hated to see the last page turned in this book. This is one I’d highly recommend you rush out and buy in ebook or print format. You’ll be so glad you did!

    Fantastic Read!

This book has it all. Great characters, world-building, and an engrossing plot that will keep you turning the pages or happily listening from beginning to end. I laughed, cried, and got a bit overheated. There are a few very sexy scenes.

Regin the Radiant has neither filter nor fear. She goes after what she wants even if it's Declan Chase the man that kidnapped and tortured her. Things are rarely what they seem and turning hate into love is going to take some major magic.

This had some good parts, but also several times where the characters were just childish fools, and my annoyance made me care less about them. So it ended up kind of middling for me. Not too bad though.

Warning: This review contains mild spoilers.

The Immortals After Dark is an entertaining series with a host of quirky and lovable, if somewhat disturbed, characters. Unfortunately, the hero of this particular installment is neither quirky nor lovable although he is seriously disturbed, and it is virtually impossible to find anything appealing about him. As such, it is with a sad heart that Dreams of a Dark Warrior becomes my least favorite book in the series.

Declan Chase is the reincarnated lover of the Valkyrie, Regin, but is doomed to die once he remembers his past with her. In his current incarnation, Declan is a member of the Order, an organization aimed at destroying Loreans by capturing, imprisoning and torturing them in particularly gruesome ways - something that Declan actively and gleefully participates in. The fact that he suddenly regrets his actions after recognizing Regin as his mate in no way mitigates his behavior and neither does his painful personal history.

Despite being an exceptional writer, Kresley Cole has met an obstacle that she cannot overcome with Declan and her attempts to redeem his character are a dismal failure. Consequently, Declan's romance with Regin, as engaging as she is, is completely incomprehensible - what woman falls in love with the man responsible for stabbing, poisoning and eviscerating her?

In contrast, the secondary characters, especially Lothaire, somehow manage to salvage the book from being a complete waste of time. Natalya, Brandr and Thad are all intriguing and I hope we will be seeing more of them.

I love Regan so much! Finally... Aidan is found and he's a bad guy! The worst of the bad guys! I'm not going to lie, Declan (Aidan) is a douche extraordinaire, and I'm still not sure if I agree with how things went down, but...

My big question, at this point, is when does Nix get an HEA of her own? Or does she?? Poor chick works her ass off and has no love comin... except for Bertie of course. But really, is the love of a bat enough?

Ok I really loved this book. I was convinced at the beginning that I was going to be disappointed, partly because I love Regin's character so much that I feared the story wouldn't be good enough for me, and partly because I feared I would NEVER be able to like DC. Luckily, Kresley Cole proved me very wrong. I was pleasantly surprised at how MUCH I liked the story. I enjoyed hearing Regin talk about and reading DC dream about Aidan's past lives. I reveled in seeing DC recognize the truth, accept it, and move forward toward redemption. This book ended up being in my top three of the entire series. Well done Miss Cole!

I picked this book up in a local bookstore while killing time and waiting for friends. The more I read of Kresley's world, the harder it is to pull away. This book was an interesting mixture of mythology, humor, love, reincarnation and of course steamy Alpha Males. Regin and Aidan are star crossed lovers whom seemed destined to be torn apart. Regin is an immortal Valyrie while Aidan is a Berserker who was fascinated by Regin from the moment he saw her. When Regin decides to have a fling with Aidan, she has no idea how much it will affect her nor how one vow will haunt her for thousands of years. As Aidan is struck down by an enemy shortly after being with Regin, he vows to return to her in another life. Each reincarnation causes more heartache and loss for Regin who feels that she is cursed to forever be the death of her beloved. It is however in his reincarnation of an Irishman named Chase in which she falls the hardest for him. She vows to resist him and keep him from dying but fate and a nosy but well meaning sister have other ideas. My heart went out to poor Regin who experienced every reincarnation of her love and and had to watch him die. This book is full of surprises and not everything is as it seems. Will Regin and Chase finally get their happy ending or will Chase be doomed to die and be reincarnated again? You will have to read to find out. Trust me, it's worth the wait!

I honestly believe that I am going to come up with a special 'Kresley Cole Rating'. It will be a rating so unique and awesome that the book must have rocked, or was written by Kresley Cole. I aspire to write as well as she does one day. Ok...gushing is going to get worse, just a warning now.
I loved this book, just as much as I have loved each and every single book before it. I love that Ms. Cole is consistent, she is ambitious, and she knows how to write a sensual scene that will curl your claws...I mean toes. I fall into this world and these characters so easily and I have started a list of characters I want books or stories on one day in hopes she will write theirs, and never ever stop.

This book truly felt darker to me than the previous ten but these characters certainly had some trials and tribulations. Ms. Cole certainly knows how to torture a character and when she does, she makes sure she goes all out. The things that Declan had to endure in his life time and then also what Regin had to go through as well was insane. Crazy....that they could still be together and find a common ground after everything they had been through in a millennium.

I adore Nix...OMG....as bad ass and horrible as Lothaire is....come on...COME ON! Anyway, enough of that, I am sure Nix knows who she will be with (not Bertil) but we will hopefully find out one day...maybe a Lord of the Underworld (Gena Showalter Plug)...we will have to wait and see. I can't wait for the next book. I say that in every review and I truly mean it every time I say it. As long as Ms. Cole is writing I will continue to read, spread, and love her work.

I would like to add since my last review of one of Ms. Cole's books I have gotten TWO other people hooked on the series *feels proud* *round of gold clapping* If you haven't read these books....YOU NEED TOO!

With all Kresley Cole publications, it had steam and humor. This was not my favorite pairing (Lucia and Garreth) nor my least favorite (Sabine and Rydstrom). Declan was in charge of a Lore prison and was a reincarnation of Regin's true love, Aidan. There was too much conflict that didn't resolve completely. I did like the idea of different reincarnations that showed the different aspects of Aidan's personality, but I felt that Regin was too concerned over her lost love and not focused enough on Declan. I'm glad Nix and Lothaire were featured because they are my favorite characters. I always speed through Cole's books and can never pick up a new one fast enough. Hopefully, Endless Knight is available at the library!

Cole has again floored me with her gift as a writer. The heat between Her Valkerie and Berserker was so intense I couldn't put it down. I'm both in awe and jealous of her ability to captivate a reader.
I can't wait to read the next one.

I started this book with no small amount of trepidation; after all I had read the earlier story DEMON FROM THE DARK. I had also some of the reviews so I had an idea of what was coming or what I thought was coming. I will say upfront that this story isn’t as bad as my imagination, which should put a lot of you at ease because I can imagine some really horrible things. There is some repetitive scene from the earlier book but these are mostly history so a new reader won’t be completely lost. I have held out hope that Regin the Radiant would finally find the man tough enough to melt her heart. While it takes most of the book to happen Regin does find Aidan in Declan Chase. Well it is more that Declan has the memories of Aidan but never fully becomes Aidan. It is a twisted and tangled web of plots and sub-plots. This is not unexpected since Lothaire is involved with most of this story. I think that he is as bad as Nix about manipulating people. I would love to find out his history and why it is so important for him to find La Dorada’s ring. This story picks up about the same place as DEMON FROM THE DARK. It is told from Declan and Regin’s point of view. Declan is a man that has survived more than anyone could have thought possible. His attitude about the Lore has been colored by the night his brother and parents were killed. The Order takes him in and heals his wounds then trains him to capture and torture beings from the Lore, both good and bad. Regin has known for some time that Aidan (Declan) is alive but she has avoided him because she wants him to live and have a full life for a change. Little does she know what she has condemned him to survive. This is a story of redemption and salvation, of forgiveness and hope. It is also the start of the Accession in full force.Regin is one of those people that you either love or you hate. She is in your face confident and a smart mouth to boot. She isn’t afraid of anything except maybe losing Lucia. She has made demon’s eat things that no one should ever eat and she has flirted and drank all over New Orleans. She isn’t shy or retiring. She is also loyal and caring. She wants to make things better for those that she cares about. She left Valhalla because she feared for Lucia and she was only twelve at the time. She has fought wars and gods and mourned for Aidan. It was time she was finally able to keep him.Declan is an Irish lad that fell in with the wrong crowd because he was missing something important in his life, Regin. He has struggled with addiction and misery for so long he knows nothing different. His training upon entering the Order was grueling and torturous. He was also brained washed into believing all the Lore was deprived beings out to kill the human race. Regin saves him and shows him what honor and courage really are. He becomes and caring and compassionate man that is racked by guilt over the things that he has done to so many of the good beings of the Lore. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in future books and the Accession. This is an easy book to read. There are scenes that are cruel and painful. Some of the characters are despicable in so many ways. I really don’t think that some of them got the punishment they deserved at the end. Ms. Cole continues to write a wonderful tortured hero, I just wish she would torture them a little less. These last two have been barely sane from all that they have survived. I am off to read the nest book.

This was gooood! Another action packed riveting installment in the IAD Series. Regin finally gets her story - and her man. Or does she? Hot and steamy and I was wondering how will Kresley Cole make it better for Declan and Regin for I was stumped about how they'd avoid the curse. Great as usual. I didn't think I'd like this for Regin has not been one of my favorites, but I was won over to her side, she's a great character. Now onto the next - on audio!

This is a great story. I really enjoyed learning more about not just Declan/Aiden and Regain, but also Lothaire. As always, I love Nix who has here usual minor on screen parts, but who controls everything. I just cannot get enough of her. This is a great series. Now I just have to wait for the story. I love the character development and want to learn more about each character.

Been waiting for this one for a while and I wasn't disappointed.

Regin has always been a fun character, if a little unorthodox, and I enjoyed reading about her and Aidan's past. I have to admit I was a little upset reading various bits in this story because I was really wanting them to get together and everytime she got hurt, I wanted to scream at Aidan/Chase.

In my opinion that makes it an amazing story therefore 5 fabulous stars!

Boy-howdy, the words that come to find after finishing this one are "violent", "kick-ass", and "awesome-sauce". Did I mention "violent"? An interesting premise with a few odd bumps in the road, once I started this roller coaster it flew by. Regin and Aidan have quite the non-traditional relationship, but I enjoyed every over-the-top moment of it. I'm hoping our next book delves into the tension between Nix and Lothaire, or Tiger loses his V-card. Can't wait!

You know, I've been making my way through this series, and in general, I like it. Kresley Cole's books are usually fun without being fluffy, and the characters are generally well-developed enough that they don't feel like cardboard.

But I HATED this book. Hate, hate, hated it. Declan, the male love interest of the story, made my skin crawl every time he showed up. He's supposedly the reincarnation of Regin's doomed lover, Adrian, but the book is never totally clear on how or even why he keeps coming back.

Declan, despite being hit with a massive surge of lust (not love, people, LUST) for Regin, kidnaps her and her friends, imprisons them, and proceeds to torture and experiment on them. Consequently, Regin decides she has to seduce and kill him in order to save her own life, as well as the other people he has kidnapped. This leads to some massively squicky situations that I won't go into because I no longer want to think about this book.

Cole attempts to redeem him at the end but honestly, it was a serious case of too little way, way too late for me. Regin's relationship with Declan was HUGELY problematic for me, and left me feeling like I needed a long, long shower.

I put off reading Dreams of a Dark Warrior for a long time because I was very wary of what would happen given the events of Demon from the Dark. I should have trusted Cole to keep me at the edge of my seat without shoving me off the edge! I wrestled with Declan's attitude (even though I understood it) and even more so with Regin's responses but Cole managed to walk the balance beam well enough so that I didn't feel like either of them were suddenly doing 180s or having personality transplants. As usual, the storyline is fantastic with enough humour and sensuality to balance the violence - it is the Ascension and they are part of the Lore! And of course, Regin is an awesome kick-ass Valkyrie.

As a long-time reader of Krelsey Cole’s Immortals After Dark Series I was ridiculously excited to see Regin’s story in print - finally. Regin has been such a wonderful, playful, and seriously bad-a** character throughout the series that it was time to have her story told. Maybe I just got too excited and expected way too much but by novel’s end, I felt a bit disappointed. Regin didn’t really get the story she deserved although she did have some spectacular moments and comments. As with all of the books in this series, Dreams of a Dark Warrior traces the moments and events that lead to the major character finding his/her mate. In this instance, it is Regin finding (after several centuries & deaths) her one true mate, Declan Chase. Where Cole shines is in her ability to make the reader first hate and then adore a character. In this respect, I was not let down. Declan Chase began as a nasty bit of work with a life-long grudge against all beings of the Lore. It takes Chase’s encounter with Regin and a few other Loreans for him to realize that nothing is as it seems and maybe his hatred has been misplaced. Of all the characters in Dreams of Dark Warrior, Chase’s character has the greatest evolution. Cole transforms him right before your eyes turning him into one of the most endearing mates of the entire series! In every series there is what I tend to call set-up novels; that is, the author begins to focus more on previously unimportant or less important characters and introduces new characters and/or plot lines. Essentially, the reader is being set-up for the next several installments in a series. Dreams of Dark Warrior is one of those novels and this is why I feel Regin didn’t get the story she deserved. Cole not only had to tell Regin and Declan’s story but she also had a lot of work to do and ground to cover in this novel in order to set up the future of her series. It is in this set-up portion of the book that I got over my disappointment, at least marginally. Cole gave more information about Lothaire, the Enemy of Old (who knew he had a sense of humor?); introduced the seriously naïve but learning quickly Thad, the half-vampire half-phantom (WHAT???); and of course, Nucking Futs Nix who now has a pet bat and is still legally barred from seeing Mike Rowe. Nix might be one of my all-time favorite characters and in this series, her actions and predictions seemed to hint at future plot lines – but who can really tell where Nix is concerned. Based on the hints it seems that in the near future we are going to be learning a great deal more about Lothaire, Nix, and the Valkyries never-ending sear for Myst. Did anyone else pay attention to the fact that Lothaire vowed he had no knowledge of Myst’s location? Hhmm.....As with all of the books in this series, Dreams of a Dark Warrior is a solid well-written read but not something I am going to pick up again anytime in the near future. Don’t skip this book by any means but don’t expect to be all tingly and excited at the end either. By the way, I so wish that last statement weren’t true – I adore this series and have rarely been let down or disappointed by Cole. At the end of the day however I was much more excited by the tidbits of information concerning the future of this series; Cole really seems to be setting us up for the next (several??) installments. Since I can’t find any information regarding the next book in this series, here’s my request: Dear Kresley Cole,I would like the twelfth book in this series to be Nix’s story.Sincerely,A Nucking Futs Reader

My least favourite of Cole's IAD books. Ever since meeting Regin I've been hoping to read of her story but I was really disappointed in this. The torture scenes were nauseating and sickening - the reason for why there needed to be such graphic torture in a romance evades me; Whether Chase instigated them or not is irrelevant to me.There was nowhere near the same level of sexual tension as in the other books - that utterly carnal desire that is, at times, bordering on the unbelievably simplistic but makes the stories work. This one had next to nothing of that and then a whole lot of graphic violence - lose-lose situation.

"Loving the enemy" is a familiar plot device in the Imortals After Dark series, but it is exceptionally done here. Declane is reborn with no memory of Regine, and he has captured and tortured her. Redeeming him from his actions was quite the feat of good writting and plotting. Regine attempting to seduce him then doubting herself, was well written as well. Good sexual tension. As always a good mix of action and romance. Well paced. And what is Lothaire up to? I can't wait to read his story.

This one had a plot twist that made it very difficult for me to accept the ending - namely, the male protagonist literally and excruciatingly tortures the female protagonist, and a number of her friends and loved ones. Redemption and "love" come far too quickly and easily, even with the understanding of what drives him to commit these acts in the first place. Cole's female characters are very quick to understand and forgive in the first place, but the extreme circumstances that lead to this union just give me the creeps.

This is book 11 in the Immortals After Dark series and I have been looking forward to Regin’s story since the first time we met her. She is sharp-tongued, quick witted, loyal to her core and kicks some major butt. In short, I love her to death! On the outside Regin plays the part of a care free, happy, Valkyrie. On the inside Regin misses her warlord with a fierce passion. He has been reincarnated and found his way back to her four times now and in each lifetime she has had to stand by helplessly and watch him die right before her eyes.Declan has lived a life of torment and heartbreak. He was tortured as a child and forced to watch his parents brutally murdered in front of him by creatures from the Lore. As a result, he has grown up hating anything having to do with the Lore and was trained to track them down, capture and torture them. However, he takes just a little too much pleasure in his work at times and Regin is his next target.Out of all the books in the Immortal After Dark series, these two faced the most adversity throughout their courtship. Declan is literally torturing Regin and her friends and family, how do you forgive something like that? Despite all that, I was still rooting for them, more than anyone we have seen previously. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain Regin must have gone through to watch the man she loves die in front of her multiple times and not be able to spare him. Now that he is back in her life, it is hard for her to just dismiss him, no matter how evil he may appear to be.Kresley Cole continues to amaze me with her ability to weave previous story lines into present ones flawlessly. The books come together seamlessly and each story plays an important part in the overall plot. Which is why I would not recommend reading these books out of order, you can do it if you want to, but things make more sense if you go in order. You will also have complete awareness of other events happening simultaneously from previous books that play a critical roles in Dreams of a Dark Warrior. For example, in Dreams of a Dark Warrior we pick back up at the island where many immortals are being held captive. We have seen many stories revolve around this island and run into previous characters. Past books have left holes in the timeline because the characters cannot be everywhere at once, this story fills in gaps that we only got glimpses of in the past and continues to add depth to this entire series.I was also excited to see Regin and “Aiden” in past lifetimes. We get a glimpse of Regin before she became immortal and she was just as fiery as ever. Good to know that even after centuries of living the girl still has spirit and came by it honestly. It was fascinating to go back to the beginning of this curse that both Aiden and Regin live with and see how it all started. Regin fills us in on the many lives of Aiden with her memories and with each detail revealed, you understand how much pain she has had to bear throughout her life.Overall, Dreams of a Dark Warrior is another fantastic addition to this series! Kresley Cole does an amazing job of spinning a tale so addicting you will not be able to put the book down for a second. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next because rumor has it that Lothaire’s book is up next and you know that is going to be good.

I love Kresley Cole! There is a reason why her books are part of my auto-buy list. Not only is her Immortals After Dark series plain awesome but you fall in love with all the characters in these books. She does not disappoint in Dreams of a Dark Warrior. In it we finally get Regin the Radiant and her Berserker's love story. When Declan first sees Regin his first action is to grab his knife, stab her with it, and then twist it for extra measure. My first impression: Woah, how the heck is he gonna get out of this one... because right off the bat I hated him. Not only does he stab my girl Regin but he's a strung out druggie to boot. I've always loved Regin throughout this series. She's funny, saucy and the tough and mean Valkyrie when she has to be. Yet, I really liked seeing this softer side of her. She was vulnerable when it came to her feelings for Aiden and his reincarnations. I was at the edge of my seat flying through the pages to see how it would all work out for them.If you've read the previous books (Lucia's and Carrow's) in the series, then you'll recognize that it takes place throughout the same time frame and using the same backdrop for this story - we're getting a different point-of-view from the same island where Declan and his team have captured, tortured and imprisoned so many members of the Lore. Alternating between the present and Declan's dreams of his past lives and their courtship throughout the centuries you truly get a grasp for their feelings for one another and really appreciate how their relationship grows and matures throughout the story. In the end, I would say this is another winner from Ms. Cole. This is a fabulous addition to the series and at its conclusion you can already see the build-up for the next story to come (Lothaire). Too bad we have to wait a while for its release - I guess I'll just have to read this one over and over until I can get my hands on the next one. Not that I'm complaining :)
