About this audiobook

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY LIBRARY JOURNAL

In Robin York's provocative new novel, two young ex-lovers find themselves together again in the shadow of tragedy-and an intense, undeniable attraction.

Caroline still dreams about West. His warm skin, his taut muscles, his hand sliding down her stomach. Then she wakes up and she's back to reality: West is gone. And before he left, he broke her heart.

Then, out of the blue, West calls in crisis. A tragedy has hit his family-a family that's already a fractured mess. Caroline knows what she has to do. Without discussion, without stopping to think, she's on a plane, flying to his side to support him in any way he needs.

They're together again, but things are totally different. West looks edgy, angry at the world. Caroline doesn't fit in. She should be back in Iowa, finalizing her civil suit against the ex-boyfriend who posted their explicit pictures on a revenge porn website. But here she is. Deeply into West, wrapped up in him, in love with him. Still.

They fought the odds once. Losing each other was hard. But finding their way back to each other couldn't be harder.

I requested Harder from Early Reviewers not knowing that it is the second book in a series. Not having read the first book, it made it a little more difficult but not impossible to understand the characters. I found Harder to be very similar to other books featuring a troubled male lead. It was pretty much what I expected of a book of this genre. I will recommend the series to friends who enjoy new adult romance.

I did not read the first book in the series and so the references to that were not very meaningful for me. The book often went into preachy mode. There was not enough in the central relationship to carry the length of this book.... I was actually wanting more time with some of the other characters rather than just their interactions with caroline and westIt is an OK tortured hero romance, but I would not be going out of my way for it.

Between 3.5 and 4, I enjoyed this but missed the relationship vs the life being the center of the novel. Some of it was hard to take.

I received this book for free through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers. This book was just as good as the first one. I love West and Caroline and their relationship. I was also super happy that Frankie had a bigger role in the story

Harder, Caroline and West book 2, was a welcome surprise in the early reviewers giveaway. I had not read Deeper, so I devoured book 1. I could not get enough of Caroline and West. Before diving into Harder, I skimmed a few reviews even though I knew I shouldn't. I had to see what all the fuss was about in Harder, so into the pages I went.Harder was definitely a harder book to swallow. I knew West's past was going to play a major role for him in this book, but what was discovered was horrific. Caroline stays true to her love for West even when he doesn't deserve it. In the end, West and Caroline's love is victorious, and I was pleased with how the novel ended.

Caroline is still in love with West even though he made it very clear that they were over when he left town. She still calls him and still hopes that he will change his mind. One night he called her to tell her that his father had been killed and she told him that she was coming to be with him. He told her no, but is there to pick her up at the airport when her plane arrives. He I mean to the point of cruelty, but she keeps on returning kindness for his cruel remarks. I found the beginning of the book to be a hard read because of West's cruelty toward Caroline. As the story progressed we are shown what a bad environment that West grew up in, but I still found his behavior harsh. The book is well written and the characters are actually what they should be for the story line. The ending pulls it all together for a good read.**Library Thing win

It's one of those 'difficult to read and even more difficult to rate' books. My usual M.O. for books that have this type plot device would be to DNF it so fast or get ragey about it. My friends know this about me and I have stepped on my soapbox on more than one occasion. But once in a while it works and it adds another layer to the story. It doesn't make for an easy read but once the rage is over, you get that nice little HEA at the end, it makes everything worth it.

Thanks Library Thing and Random House for a free copy in exchange for a honest review. Let me start by saying I really wanted to love this book and give it five stars but I couldn't I have mixed feelings on this book. First I hadn't read the first book "Deeper" so I did so immediately and I was so glad I did. I loved the book it was funny, sweet, loving and a emotional love story. I fell in love with the characters and cried at the end so I couldn't wait to read "Harder". I have to say I was a little disappointed not at the end but in other ways. I hated what West did and I didn't like how he kept pushing Caroline away. It just went on too long from the first book to second. I didn't like how the author kept trying to prove points and teach us lessons. I did like the realness of West's crazy family and his love for Frankie. I liked when the three of them were together like family. I just wanted a little happiness for the three of them. Despite my mixed feelings I enjoyed reading the books they were memorable. Maybe they would be more enjoyed by a younger audience due to the characters being in college.

I hate that this sequel went from a Revenge Porn Plot to a "save him from his hot mess family" angsty NA. The Revenge Porn thing is not been explored that much so I was really enjoying it. But I guess the author defaulted to NA standard, rude boy from a messed up family who needs that love to give him the strength to aim higher and.If you liked Wes and Caroline in book 1, then it is the same but reverse here. In Book 1, Caroline was drowning in misery after her ex Nate released her pictures on social media. Wes gave her space, encouragement and used the bakery to give her something else to focus on. In this book Caroline was the anchor for Wes after his father died and his family was in a tailspin. Caroline had to endure some seriously mean attempts by Wes to push her away before he finally gave up fighting her and gave into their love. He found peace and joy and a clearly path to a new future.I have mixed feelings about Caroline. When she wants something, she just ignores everything else. Some would call it focus and determination, I call saw her as having tunnel vision. I get her need to save Wes the way he saved her, but I found she sacrificed Bridget, her father's efforts on the lawsuits and even her own dignity at times to the altar of Wes. Maybe Wes was worth it, but I wanted more of a focus on the issue with Nate--on that crime that needed to be addressed more.

I started reading this many months ago when I received it from a Librarything Early Readers giveaway in return for my honest review. And my honest reaction was that I was totally lost, and I needed to first read the first book in this series, Deeper (I really hate the names of these books.) It took me a bit to get the other book and to fit it into my ridiculously long reading queue, but I am finally done with both! I am not the right demo for this series. This is New Adult, and I am definitely an Old Adult. Still, I liked both books (the first a bit more.) The books are well written, and present a strong, ambitions, independent female lead and a smart, sexy, masculine male lead who revels in his girlfriend's strength and goals. I read a lot of romance, and I just don't see that enough. The books also presented a true tale of revenge porn and took us through 2 years of the life of the woman who was the subject of the posted videos. It told a story which rang true, and which I think is an important one for young men and women to read. Good stuff here. Well written, tackled important themes without coming off like an afterschool special, interesting characters who are good people, even though they are not saints, and most important of all, its dead sexy.

All I can say is that Robin York does not disappoint with this continuation of Caroline and West's story. Again these characters have taken root in my heart and I will think of them for a long time. If you haven't read Deeper do so. NOW. If you have get this one as soon as you can you will be so happy you did. Again one of the best NA stories I've read.

Tell you what...I wasn't wrong. You can't read this as a standalone book, but the first book of this series is even better than this one and that's saying something. The conflict in this book is truly gripping (no pun intended). Here you have two very wounded souls who are from different sides of the track and when they get together, at first they try to fight where things are going, then, it just explodes. I have to say, there was a point in this book that I wanted to toss it against the wall. You'll read the scene and think the same thing most likely, but I get why it was done. It didn't make me like the hero that much for a bit, but in the end, he redeemed himself and all was well. Without a doubt, this will be a book I'll be talking about for a while and one I'd recommend for years. Ms. Knox/York has a way with words that grips the reader and refuses to let up. You'll fall in love along with the characters and you'll enjoy it every step of the way.

Thanks librarything for a free read in exchange for a review. I really liked the first part of this series but the second part was so emotional, and felt so real it just blew me away. Caroline and West had so much chemistry it was intense, I really thought a lot of Caroline after she was just so blatantly real. West did his best to not deserve her, but that just shows you that real love.....you have to work for it, it's a challenge not a gift. To be there for the good, you have to stick through the bad. I hope this is not where the story ends, and we get at least one more book. Lovely read. Overall entertainment at it's best...five stars.
