This series takes local mythologies and shows scientific explanations for them. In this case, a local people think there are ghostly green walking dead roaming the area. The Coopers stumble upon the answers to that mystery while they are trying to find a treasure room.

The villains in this book use deceit quite often in their dealings--even with each other. Even a few of the good characters have flaws--Maria lies about having a blowgun with darts because children aren't supposed to have them in her tribe.
