Описание

Pride and Prejudice is the most famous of Jane Austen’s novels, and its opening is one of the most famous lines in English literature - “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Its manuscript was first written between 1796 and 1797, and was initially called First Impressions, but was never published under that title. Following revisions it was published on 28 January 1813 by the same Mr. Egerton of the Military Library, Whitehall, who had brought out Sense and Sensibility. Like both its predecessor and Northanger Abbey, it was written at Steventon Rectory. (Summary from Wikipedia)

Об авторе

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English novelist whose works are among the most popular novels ever written. Her keen eye for social tension, and ear for taut, witty dialogue have delighted readers for centuries, while her novels have maintained historical importance through their analysis of the dependence of women on marriage to gain social standing and security. She has been widely adapted for both stage and screen, and continues to be among the most widely-read of late-18th-/early 19th-century writers.

This book is a beautiful classic and needs no more comment. The reader was very well spoken I thoroughly enjoyed her reading.

It’s so witty and interesting! I love Austen as a writer because she makes me feel smart, and she is really funny. Emma is next on my Austen reading list!

Karen Savage’s excellent reading of this classic work makes it a joy to hear! If she hasn’t been snatched up for a staff reader by Audible, or one of the other commercial audiobook publishers in the intervening fourteen years between when she made this recording, and today, September 4, 2021, when I heard it for the first time, it is a shortsighted ignorance on their part. She is a master of the craft, and deserves to be able to make a living at it.

Such a delightful reading, with proper accents, as far as this American can tell. I only wish Ms. Savage read a bit more slowly, so I could savor each sentence the more.
