- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An anthology of horror inspired by literature, film, TV or music by young adults authors. Like always in an anthology, some are better than others. In this one, there are no really bad ones but there are ones that stand out. Carrie Ryan's super creepy In the Forest Dark and Deep being one of them, Jonathan Marberry's Fat Girl With a Knife another, for completely different reasons, though. There are authors here that I already know, but a couple of new interesting ones too.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honestly, every story in this was perfect.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book surprised me by a lot, not only is it YA, which I don't normally like and its horror, which I never read, I actually surprisingly enjoyed this anthology. The stories were all [minus 2 of them] interesting and compelling. The aspect that I enjoyed most was that each story was inspired by one or multiple other sources. Some of the stories I could easily tell where their source of inspiration came from, a few I had no idea, but I loved that at the end of the story it was reveled what the sources where.I will say the strongest stories are right at the start and then slowly start to taper off, but not to the point to where I wanted to DNF it, they were still good enough to keep me listening but they aren't the type to stick with me afterwards. This is one anthology I can see myself recommending to others.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent horror collection, though some of the stories relied a little too much on "scary mental illness".
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a great collection is scary/ horror stories for my lovers of dark and twisted tales. These current and noteworthy authors take familiar tales and add their own sick and wonderfully twisted additions. This was having me on the edge of my seat with the stories when I went over them again. I absolutely love this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Slasher Girls and Monster Boys is an anthology of YA horror that is a creepy, fun read. The stories are by 14 of the best authors in today’s YA fiction and include Jonathan Maberry, Leigh Bardugo, Marie Lu and Nova Ren Suma. Each author has been inspired by other stories, film or television to create these tales that give the readers the thrills and chills we are looking for in October. As in most anthologies, I definitely preferred some stories over others, but I suspect this comes down to personal choice as they are all appropriately gruesome, disturbing and eerie in various ways. My particular favorites were “The Birds of Azalea Street” by Nova Ren Suma and “In the Forest Dark and Deep” by Carrie Ryan, but I heartily recommend this collection to all horror story lovers.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was okay but I only liked a handful of the stories.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5YA horror with various standard tropes, e.g. the serial killer whose scheme is turned back on him. I borrowed it for the Leigh Bardugo story, but enjoyed Jonathan Maberry’s “Fat Girl with a Knife” best.
