About this audiobook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

"Star Wars: Aftermath [reveals] what happened after the events of 1983's Return of the Jedi. It turns out, there's more than just the Empire for the good guys to worry about."-The Hollywood Reporter

As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance-now a fledgling New Republic-presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy's scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy's strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he's taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

Meanwhile, on the planet's surface, former rebel fighter Norra Wexley has returned to her native world-war weary, ready to reunite with her estranged son, and eager to build a new life in some distant place. But when Norra intercepts Wedge Antilles's urgent distress call, she realizes her time as a freedom fighter is not yet over. What she doesn't know is just how close the enemy is-or how decisive and dangerous her new mission will be.

Determined to preserve the Empire's power, the surviving Imperial elite are converging on Akiva for a top-secret emergency summit-to consolidate their forces and rally for a counterstrike. But they haven't reckoned on Norra and her newfound allies-her technical-genius son, a Zabrak bounty hunter, and a reprobate Imperial defector-who are prepared to do whatever they must to end the Empire's oppressive reign once and for all.

"The Force is strong with Star Wars: Aftermath."-Alternative Nation

"The Star Wars universe is fresh and new again, and just as rich and mysterious as it always was."-Den of Geek

"[Chuck] Wendig neatly captures the current states of the Empire and Rebel Alliance and does so through flawed, real, and nuanced characters. His writing gets you up close and personal. . . . Wendig does wonders with dialogue and voice and carving out space for everyone to breathe. Aftermath is a strong foot forward into unexplored territory and puts down just enough foundation that you can start picturing the Resistance and First Order of The Force Awakens taking shape."-Nerdist

"If the opening chapter of the Wendig's Aftermath trilogy is any indication, the 'Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will be every bit as exciting as the movie."-New York Daily News

"A wonderful Star Wars adventure by a gifted author."-SF Book Reviews

At times a bit boring, but overall, pretty good book

Pretty good story. Let's you know what the citizens have been up to since the Galactic Civil War of the original trilogy ended in Return of the Jedi. Sometimes you get side stories that don't seem to fit into the main story, but to set up sequels. However, I still enjoyed them, as well as the main slot.

I did enjoy most of the book but I'm glad I used a free trial to get it, I would not pay full price for this series. Some parts were hard to follow and I fail to see the point to some of the epilogues. It felt like there was a bit of an agenda too. I don't mind gay characters but it felt a bit forced at times. Will try to get free trials for the other books as well but given the authors style, I won't be buying them.

It was sort of hard to follow along. It jumped around to all the different stores a lot and got confusing. But it was entertaining.

Some interesting political fallout from Return of the Jedi, but ultimately I just couldn't connect with the new characters. Reminded me of the newer Dune novels. Take that how you will.

Fun book... Gives away nothing about Force Awakens.

The hate on this book is unfounded and just a bunch of people butt hurt that the old EU is gone. By no means is this perfect, but still a good listen.

Negative reviews about this book are WAY off. The cast of new characters are engaging, and the interludes dropping in on numerous other parts of the galaxy have certainly raised my curiosity.

Don't waste your time, its a very bad story. Read or listen to the Thrawn trilogy instead.

the story is okay. gives you some back story as to what's been happening. the audio on the other hand is awful. this is one of the worst sounding audio books I have ever listened to. there is always a low Bassy hum under everything, or some sort of screeching metal noise, or the sound of a motor I guess. I'm sure they did it to make the book more immersive but in the end it just makes it hard to listen to. this is the first Star Wars book I've ever listened to and I am not sure I can do another if it's recorded in the same fashion.

Literally the worst book that I've ever read. Don't subject yourself to the torture unless you're into that sort of thing.

There were times where Wendig's writing style was a bit jarring, there were places where it didn't really feel like Star Wars. But I appreciated the world building and the attempts to establish even more memorable characters in this universe. Overall, when it worked, it really worked, I just wish I could say that about the entire book.

This is perhaps the absolute worst star wars book I have read/listened to. The main story was quite poor and the interludes spread through out make an already bad story worse. I would suggest any other star wars or non star wars book over this. Star Wars: Lost Stars is far better I would suggest that.

The only complaint that I have about this book was the "Prelude" sections. They were a bit difficult to follow and seemed to have nothing to do with the story, though some of those complications could be that I was listening to the audiobook rather than reading it.

I really enjoyed getting to know new characters and the hints at what was to come in The force Awakens. Character development was okay, but somewhat predictable. Overall though, I would recommend this audiobook to other Star Wars fans

I think the book has some writing issues and could get bogged down if read - having it read aloud with sound effects and music really made the story flow better

Beat it, Lucifer's Hammer. Take a dive, Deep Impact. I have read the one (lost the book somewhere, though!) and own the other (far better -- for those who enjoy SOME science with their fiction -- than the flashier, star-laden Armageddon) but I'll be damned if this doesn't crush them both. First, the scientific premise is beautifully presented: while married to a physicist, I am an English Major - so my understanding is sketchy at best. Sheffield explains all: clearly, cogently, and in words I understand. Then, he uses believable characters to carry the story. SF has long been tarred with the 'minimal characterization' brush - but Sheffield is no more guilty of that than say, Michener, who used the same technique in his sprawling explorations of place and time (see Hawaii, Centennial, or Texas for examples). Sheffield gives a reader enough to feel these folks are real, & have more backstory than a reader ever sees, which is as it should be. He puts them in a page-turner of a plot that is as propulsive as early Clancy, with suspense worthy of LeCarre. The villain is, to my mind, much more frightening than Hannibal Lecter- and drawn much more completely. A smashing good read - you won't be disappointed!
