About this audiobook

Major Connor MacKinnon despises his commander, Lord William Wentworth, beyond all other men. Ordered to rescue Wentworth's niece after the Shawnee take her captive, he expects Lady Sarah Woodville to be every bit as contemptible as her uncle. Instead, he finds a brave and beautiful lass in desperate peril. But the only way to free Sarah is for Connor to defeat the Shawnee warrior who kidnapped her-and claim her himself.

Torn by tragedy from her sheltered life in London, Lady Sarah is unprepared for the harshness of the frontier-or for the attraction she feels toward Connor. When they reach civilization, however, it is she who must protect him. For if her uncle knew all that Connor had done to save her, he would surely kill him.

But the flames of passion, once kindled, are difficult to deny. As desire transforms into love, Connor will have to defy an empire to keep Sarah at his side.

Casca journeys from Venice back to Mongolia and China. I'm not too familiar with the series but the book seems to drag a bit.

Paul's two books in this series were a bad shock to readers used to the fast flowing storylines of Barry Sadler. Chapters are full of over descriptive prose and the protagonist, rather than being the action orientated warrior of all ages as previously written, is a torpid, introspective silent thinker, given to long bouts of doing nothing.

Maybe a 4.5. It took me a little while to warm to this hero, his blood-brother Joseph, right there and available, had twice his wisdom and maturity! But the story kept my interest and I ended up liking Connor by the end. There was a loose thread that nagged at me, but it was addressed in the holiday novella following this one, so that ended up okay. It's a nice conclusion to the trilogy.

Read on September 11, 2014Read for Fun (Library Book)Overall Rating: 5.00Story Rating: 5.00Character Rating: 5.00Read It File It (Short Review): OMG I adored this whole series but Defiant by Pamela Clare just raised the bar on early American Historical Romance (which there needs to be more of IMHO). I read it in one evening (staying up late to finish it) and when I closed the last page I immediately looked to see if there was any more coming (there is a novella out there that gives you updates on everyone). Just a downright awesome read!PS: I don't think there are any more after the novella. That being said this was a complete series: all 3 brothers. Just, as I am want to do, I wanted some of the side characters to have stories too.

Entertaining, good character development so you feel invested in the characters, easy to get lost in the story. However, I preferred Surrender (the first book in this trilogy) to this one (I haven't read Untamed - the second).

Defiant was everything I had been hoping for and waiting for. It is a mixed bag when reading a series that is not yet completed -- there is the excitement of waiting for the next book and wondering what will happen but then the wait can be painful. The wait for Defiant was painful but Ms. Clare made the wait worth it.

Defiant is a historical romance novel that is rich with historical details yet not in an overwhelming way. The setting is during the French Indian war in the United States and the main characters are emigrants from Scotland, Native Americans and English soldiers. For me, what is interesting about Defiant and the entire MacKinnon Rangers' series is that the main characters are not wealthy, they are not the typical hero that appear in most historical romance novels and I like that. The setting and the are characters are definitely a breath of fresh air in this genre. The incorporation of Native American culture and characters, with Scottish highlanders and British soldiers provides for a darned interesting story. And this is a survival story, for the majority of the book the hero and heroine are on in the run, fighting to survive -- either nature or enemies. I happen to love a good survival story. To top it off -- there is steam, romance and a decent amount of angst.

Fans of Clare's writing and fans of historical romance will most definitely enjoy this novel.

Connor and Sarah are a matched pair. Each has a past full of bad memories and wrongful treatment by people in authority.

Although their first marriage in a first nations village was forced as was the consummation that night, they don't regret it happened, just how it happened. This book follows the pattern of the other books in the series. The long problem filled trek to the fort, the Wentworth nightmares at the fort including flogging, and the windy road of difficulties to get to the family homestead and the Happy Ever After.

The finish of the Rangers was a touching scene, as was the new family Sarah now has. Her new sisters and brothers give her the family she never really had. I liked that both Ian and Connor were there for the end of the Rangers. It was a fitting ending. I enjoyed the whole series so far and look forward to the next books as they come along.

I was blown away by this excellent addition to Pamela Clare's MacKinnon's Rangers series, I simply loved it. This is Connor's story, the youngest of the three MacKinnon brothers. Taking place in 1760 in upstate New York, this is the third in the series set during the French and Indian War. Connor is the last of the MacKinnons to remain unmarried. Seeing how his two elder brothers have become such family men, Connor is convinced he'll never be the same way, that it's not in him to settle down - until he finds himself the unlikely rescuer of the niece of his nemesis Lord William Wentworth. Lady Sarah, who has been captured by the Shawnee Indians is a strong heroine. She finds the courage and stamina to withstand her capture and together she and Connor make a powerful hero and heroine, despite their different backgrounds. Their chemistry is terrific, the story is wonderful and I couldn't wait to see how they would end up together when there seemed to be so much going against them. Much of her rescue reminded me of parts of Surrender (the first book in the series and my favorite of them all) and it was hard to put down. Often I found myself reading this book in the middle of the night. It was good to see so many old friends, Joseph, Iain, Morgan, Annie. Lord William came across as even more of a villain here than in the last book, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him yet. This is a spellbinding story with lots of action, adventure and a sensual intensity that also makes it a great love story. A keeper!

Quite simply, Ms. Clare is one of THE greatest authors I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She is such an inspiration to readers and aspiring authors alike. I read her stories and find that I can’t put them down and then days later, am still thinking on her characters. She manages to pull action, drama and romance all together in one very perfect and intriguing package.I was waiting for Connor and Ms. Clare didn’t disappoint. He was dashing and so very sexy in this piece. I love how Ms. Clare brought things around full circle and found myself falling in love not only with Connor but also Joseph. (MS. Clare, PLEASE give us Joseph’s story!)I couldn’t put this book down and stayed up almost all night because it was just THAT good. I recommend this for anyone, whether you are a historical buff or not, quite simply because if you aren’t, she’ll turn you to be. Five out of five stars for an AMAZING job!
