About this audiobook

Rollicking Wild West Adventure and Romance from Bestselling Author Mary Connealy Dare Riker is a doctor who saves lives, but someone seems determined to end his. It may have something to do with the traitors he dealt with during the Civil War, or it might be related to the recent incident with Flint Greer and the ranch. Whoever the culprit is, he or she seems really fired up, and Dare can't let his guard down for a moment, which is a challenge, since right now he's trying to win the heart of the recently widowed Glynna. Glynna Greer came west as a mail-order bride and ended up in a bad situation. Now her husband, Flint, is dead, and she's determined to care for her son and daughter on her own. She wants to believe Dare Riker is as decent as he seems, but she's terrified to lock herself into another marriage. She plans to support her small family by opening a diner--never mind that cooking is not her greatest talent. The men in Broken Wheel, Texas, are so desperate for home cooking that they seem willing to overlook dried-out beef and blackened biscuits. Glynna can't help but notice that danger follows Dare wherever he goes. There's the avalanche. And then the fire. But things really get out of hand when someone plunges a knife from Glynna's diner into Dare's back. Are Flint's cronies still plotting revenge? Is Glynna's son engaged in a misguided attempt to protect his mother? Is a shadowy outsider still enraged over past injustices? And can Dare survive long enough to convince Glynna to take another chance on love?

Tuesday, September 24, 2013Fired Up by Mary Connealy, ©2013, Trouble in Texas series, Book 2When a doctor who attracts danger falls for a cook determined to make it on her own, there's going to be trouble in Texas!November, 1868. Dr. Darius Riker met recently widowed Glynna Greer when he was going out to the ranch in Swept Away, Book 1. Unfortunately, it wasn't how he would have liked the meeting to begin when her husband was killed leaving her and her two children alone now. On the way to town to take her belongings, a rockslide comes down around them. Could it be retribution for the confrontation with the aid of the Texas Ranger over regaining the Stones' S Bar S ranch from Flint Greer and his men? With Glynna Greer and her two children moving to Broken Wheel, hopefully they will be out of danger. Friends of Luke and Ruthy Stone are helping with her move, the same ones who came to help him regain his Texas ranch stolen by Greer. The Regulators stick together. It is now shortly after Greer's death. His widow is going to reopen a diner in an abandoned house in town to provide for her family. She has turned out to be a doctor's helper as well, as she stitches up Dare Riker's shoulder injured during the rockslide along the narrow trail.Hearing Luke Stone had returned to his land, Red Wolf comes for help. His Kiowa people have contracted measles through contact trading with the whites. Their winter camp is near the buffalo grounds. Luke was friends with Red Wolf and others his age as boys. Many had left and others had died with pneumonia and encephalitis compounded with measles. While attending to the Indian children, Dr. Riker comes to relieve Glynna and her son Paul while they eat and get some sleep. They are applying poultices and giving willow bark tea, along with cooling fevered bodies. Glynna came as a mail-order bride with Paul and his younger sister, Janny. Paul makes it clear of his intent to protect his ma from male attention. Before even opening the diner, firewood, meat, potatoes and other supplies show up at her back door. Cowpokes eager for a home cooked meal may need to overlook burned biscuits and scorched beans. Likely, Dr. Riker is going to need to stock up on bicarbonate of soda as he tends to her less than successful cooking skills with the patients she will unknowingly send him.His foot hit the bottom step on his way up to the board sidewalk that led to the diner just as black smoke billowed out its front door, followed by a herd of cowboys running out, coughing, and covering their mouths. The diner had only been open a few minutes.Well away from the building, Tug Andrews, who owned the general store, yelled, "Let us know when the smoke clears, Mrs. Greer. We'll wait."--Fired Up, 89Come to Broken Wheel, Texas, and join the Regulators, Dare, Luke, Vince, and Jonah. A new cook comes to town, and the reverend's baby sister. Change is coming. Fun to be enjoyed.***Thank you to Litfuse Publicity Group for sending me a copy of Mary Connealy's Fired Up for this blog tour. This review was written in my own words. Out of the 3 books in this series, I liked this one the best. It kept me smiling most of the way through, even though there was danger and difficulties throughout this story. Glynna Greer came out west as a mail-order bride with her two children and fell into a bad situation and abusive husband. Her husband is now dead and she is determined to make it on her own by taking over the only diner in Broken Wheel. The problem is, she can't cook worth anything. But the men all show up just to look at a pretty face. Doctor Dare Riker is the doctor in town and it seems someone is out to get him. Dare can't seem to let his guard down for one minute and his friends (who stick closer than a brother) are out to help him find out who is behind the sinister attacks on his life. Meanwhile Dare is trying to make a good impression on Glynna and win her heart, even though her son wants him to "back off".I loved how all 3 of these stories are centered around the men that "stick closer than a brother". They are all good men who are facing difficult situations and in the midst of those difficulties are pursuing women who have quite strong personalties. The banter back and forth and just the way these characters interact with one another keeps me turning the pages with pure enjoyment. Anxious to start book 3, "Stuck Together" next.

This is not a time travel book, but I took another enjoyable Time Travel trip into 1868 Texas where it seems trouble is always brewing. This is the second novel in the Trouble in Texas series following the novel Swept Up, both by Mary Connealy. I did read the first one, but I do not think it necessary as the incidents in the first book are not only alluded to but briefly explained so that those that have read the first book are reminded of the happenings there while those that have not read it are brought up to speed in a seamless manner. The characters of the first book are very much present in this one, what with the men being a part of the Regulators. Cowboys and rustlers abound, but the story is also one of romantic comedy, which Mary does extremely well. She uses words to her advantage, and the imagery is so vivid you can almost smell the smoke, hear the clatter of the horses hooves, feel the sand in your eyes and see the fear in Janey's eyes. I enjoyed this one very much, as I do all of Mary's novels, and will be looking for the 'gang's' next adventures. I received this book free from Amy at Litfuse Publicity Group and Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.

I really enjoy reading books by Mary Connealy and this one is no exception. Fired up tells the story of Glynna and how she is determined to make it on her own as well as take care of her children. Dare is the town doctor who has helped Glynna out, but seems to find trouble of his own. It is a great read and I want to thank Bethany House for providing me a copy to read.

Broken Wheel, Texas is a frontier town long on wild west action and short on the civilizing presence of women. In Mary Connealy’s Fired Up, book 2 in the Trouble in Texas series, the local doctor has things stirred up. Between caring for ailing Indians and tending to the stomach aches of the local cowboys, Dare Riker has his hands full with Glynna, the feisty yet inept owner of the local diner, and her hostile son, Paul. But when his house is burned up with him inside, he and his friends, former Regulators at Andersonville Prison, take on the task of finding out just who wants the doc dead.Fired Up is a rip-roaring romance set in the old West in the late 1860s. The country and the people are a bit wild and the action is non-stop. There are plenty of light-hearted moments for which Connealy is noted, but the very serious theme of forgiveness runs throughout the novel. More than one character is distracted by anger and fear, and the need to give it to God is very evident. While this book is a sequel, it can easily be read as a standalone. The author catches the reader up on just what went on in book 1. Because I live just 30 miles down the road from the site of the infamous Andersonville Prison, I especially liked the Regulators storyline. Connealy has done her homework, and I learned more than a few things about the prison. Life in an old West town and the practice of medicine are also very well researched. If you like cowboys and romance with an authentic setting, Fired Up is the book for you.Recommended.(I received this book from Bethany and LitFuse in return for a review. The opinions expressed are mine alone.)

Someone is trying to kill Dare Riker. He has moved to Texas and decides he doesn't want to continue working as the town doctor, he wants to become a rancher. The things this man goes through is unreal, being stabbed in the back, an avalanche and there's more. Widow Glynna Greer takes care of an injured Dare and sparks begin to fly, but Glynna's son does not want this to continue and he tries to put a stop to it. Conneally has written a witty, entertaining, romance novel with a western theme. A gem of a book! I received a copy of this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love Mary Connealy's books! I have them all and they are absolutely wonderful. This is the second in her Trouble in Texas series and I didn't want it to end. She has the most genuine sense of humor and she shines brightly this go round. Chapter 6 absolutely tore me up! I was reading it during lunch and could barely eat for laughing out loud. Big, deep belly laughs. I told my husband about the book, then read him the funny parts. He started laughing and I actually heard him telling some people about it the next day!Dare Riker is one of the 4 Regulators that shared a terrible time in Andersonville prison during the Civil War. They are all in Texas now and of course trouble has followed them. Dare spent time in the prison as a doctor but has changed his mind and doesn't want to be a doctor anymore, he wants to be a rancher. Never mind the fact that he doesn't even have a clue what a rancher DOES.Add to the mix someone is trying to kill him. He survives and avalanche, his house burns to the ground, stabs in the back and Glynna Greer's awful cooking. What in the world will happen next?We again meet up with the characters from Swept Away and it is so nice to spend time with them. We also meet a new character, who I suspect will feature strongly in the next book. This was an absolutely wonderful book and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. When I see a new book coming soon by Mary Connealy, my face lights up and I squeal like a little kid on Christmas. The lady knows her stuff. I hate like the dickens to have to wait another year for Book Three.Do yourself a favor and get this book! Quickly.

1868 - Texas - Glynna Greer has detestable memories of her late husband, Flint, who has been killed in a gun battle by Dare Riker and his friends. They risked their lives to save Glynna from her husband. Dare Riker, is a doctor who wants to heal, not kill, but Flint had given him no choice and he has saved Glynna from her husband's brutality. Glynna is a survivor and determined she can make it on her own and provide for her two children. She opens a diner in this small town, Broken Wheel, even though she is not a good cook. Dare worked with a doctor during the Civil War, but does not have any formal training as a doctor, and very little schooling. He lacked confidence and felt that presenting himself as a doctor was wrong. A bit of a romance blossoms between Glynna and Dare, but that part of the story falters for me. The romance moved so slowly and was completely predictable. The story unfolds with an avalanche, a fire, and a stabbing, and Dare survives it all - again predictable. This book was just lukewarm, failing to captivate my interest. The storyline was rather implausible, being far-fetched, failing to convince me. On a positive note, the book was well written. I enjoyed the descriptive writing of the bucolic countryside and there was some fun dialogue with humor interjected throughout. It was a relaxed, fast, and easy read, but not one I'd enthusiastically recommend. My rating is 3 stars. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers for an honest review. All opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
