- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It took me three weeks to finish listening to Video Kill. I've read several of Ms. Fluke's Hannah Swensen mysteries, so I thought I would like this book. Perhaps I would have liked this one more if I hadn't finished listening to Val McDermid's far superior Splinter the Silence just two days before starting Video Kill. Both feature multiple character viewpoints, including that of the serial killer. Both cases feature a common theme obscure to the police, but figured out by a non-police (or in Fluke's case, more than one) character.Where Ms. Fluke's efforts fell short, in my opinion, is that I didn't care much about any of the main characters except Allison and Eric. I often wanted to shake Tony and Katy, but Tony more. The good news is that the book improves during CD six. The last three CDs give listeners a pretty decent series of comic errors. Katy and even Tony improve. There's some suspense. My advice is to not give up on the book too soon.Dog lovers are out of luck, but Eric's cat, Mr. Al, is present to amuse cat lovers.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Being familiar with Fluke’s Hannah Swenson series, I was excited to find that to wrote thrillers and Video Kills is not a disappointment. Hard to put down and full of suspense that leaves the reader guessing until the very end. Originally released in 89 this rerelease has some issues as in references to some of today’s actresses yet then the technology and lack there of remaining from the original release. At times some of the characters are easily mixed up as to whom is who however with the imagery and mystery of what’s going to happen next these few flaws can easily be overlooked.
