About this audiobook

In the bestselling tradition of J.A. Redmerski and Jessica Sorensen come the next novel in Courtney Cole's New York Times bestselling Beautifully Broken Series...

Sometimes before we fall . . . we fly.

One dark moment was all it took to turn twenty-four-year-old Dominic Kinkaide's world black. On the night of his high school graduation, a single incident changed him forever, and he became a hardened man-famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured inside. Now all he cares about is losing himself in the roles that he plays.

At twenty-three years old, Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but an absence of moments. She tries to find acceptance in the arms of men to fill the void-a plan that has worked just fine for her, until she meets Dominic.

When jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, the combination of his secrets and her issues turns their attraction into the perfect storm. It could change their lives for good-if it doesn't tear them both apart . . .

I didn't read the first 2 books in the series, but that didn't matter. This is a stand-alone book, and it's not necessary to read the other books first.

This is a very different kind of book. Very angsty, emotional, with graphic "shades of grey" type sex.

I don't really understand why Dom is an actor in the book, but I guess that really doesn't matter. He is a first class jerk, empty on the inside and treats women very badly. He's definitely broken...whether beautifully so or not is up to each reader to decide.

Jacey is sometimes too good to believe. I get that she wants to 'fix' him, and had empathy for him, but I'm not sure there's a woman alive who would let him treat her like he does, and still love him. In the end everything gets resolved, and I must say I was super curious to find out what Emma did or how she died. When that was finally revealed it held a bunch of surprises.

it is a riveting read, emotional, sad, crazy, wild...and epic book.

Wow, this book surprised me. Both in a good way and with shock value. This book should be classified as a erotic romance read. It read like one. What with all of the sex talk. Even the sex scenes were in great detail. However most of the erotic novels I have read do not use the "f" word as many times as it was used throughout this book. You don't have to use the "f" word to get your point across. I have said it before and will say it again. I am not offended by curse words but when they have a purpose in a book or movie and not just to say it. Right away in the first chapter alone, the "f" word was used about twenty times. It might have been used more but I lost track of counting. I almost gave up on the book just for this reason alone. Yet I decided to give this book a chance. I liked the book but I had some issues with it that made me not love it. Besides the language I already mentioned the other was that Dom came off as a real "A" hole. So I was not impressed by him and could not get behind Jacey falling for him. Which is another issue. I thought it was funny that Jacey was suppose to be a challenge to Dom but yet, all it took was one look and kiss and she was melting like butter in his arms. Although I did like that the author did give the characters real struggles to deal with. Therefore this book is not your typical cookie cutter romance story.

I liked this one even though it wasn't the kind of book that I would normally pick up. I did have some issues with the book but nothing too overwhelming. I have had a review copy of this book for over five years but put off picking it up during that time largely due to the fact that this is the third installment in the Beautifully Broken series and I worried that it wouldn't work well as a stand-alone. I had no reason to worry since this book told its own story and read just fine without any knowledge of the rest of the series. This was a pretty dark romance. The romance was a lot more erotic than I usually read. I am not opposed to either of those things but this book did take me out of my comfort zone just a bit. One thing that I really don't enjoy in a romance is seeing one of the main characters engaging in sexual acts with someone else. I really do prefer stories to focus on the two main characters and their relationship with each other. I do have to admit that some of the acts in this book left me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because I felt like one party was destined to be hurt.Dominic and Jacey are the focus of this story and they both have dealt with some terrible things in their past. Dominic is a famous actor who refuses to get close to each other but doesn't hesitate to get physical with others when he feels the need. Jacey seems to always pick the wrong guy but she is trying to start over when she meets Dominic.Dominic and Jacey are forced into a situation that requires them to spend time together. They do have a lot of chemistry together. Their problem is letting each other in and trying to trust each other. As things about their past were revealed, I did understand why they acted as they did. I actually found myself liking this book more and more as the story progressed and I think that was largely due to the fact that I started to understand the characters, although their behavior did also change. I decided to listen to the audiobook version of this book and I thought both narrators did an acceptable job. I did prefer the female narrator over the male simply because of some of the voices that were used. I did think that they both did a good job overall and I am glad that I decided to listen to the book. I would recommend this book to readers who like a darker, more erotic romance. I found this book to be a good way to mix up my reading just a bit and try something a little different. I would definitely read more of Courtney Cole's work in the future.I received a digital review copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and borrowed a copy of the audiobook from my local library.

Dominic's whole life changed when his high school sweetheart died. Its six years later and he still has been unable to get past her death. It effects every part of his life and keeps him in a "dark place". There seems to be no happiness for him, no love, and very little emotion. One night at his brother's house party he meets Jacey and his life starts to change. I was totally impressed with this book. I loved the characters, even though it took most of the book to actually understand Dominic. The story line was great, mystery, sex, love, family ties and friendships. It was an easy read, well written, and left me with a smile. I will be reading more from this fine author.**A Good Reads Win

Dominic is one messed up guy. It took me a minute to figure out who Jacey was but it all came back (she has a big role in "If You Leave"). Jacey has her own issues but she is trying to turn a new leaf but deep down she is a sweet, wonderful girl that just makes bad decisions. It's a wild ride to see if Jacey can be enough for Dominic. Hot Juicy sex scenes.
    Fabulous Fantastic Ending.

Before We Fall was a wonderful-amazing read. I seriously *heart* Courtney Cole and her writing. This series is one of my favorites. It was a great addition to the Beautifully Broken series. I just love how much realness and emotions there are in this series. I want to say this book is darker, but I really don't think it is. I think that the characters have more residual grief than the others, but that's about it.

Dom and Jacey are both broken in their own ways, both stubborn and headstrong. While Dom doesn't want anyone, Jacey tries her hardest not to want anyone. They are forced to work alongside each other after an incident at a party lands them both on probation. They try to ignore their attraction to one another, but can't. The only thing standing in the way of their future is the past. And it might just rip them apart.

I highly recommend this series, though warn that it is a darker romance. But by the end, you'll be head-over-heals in love with it.

I want to start by saying that Courtney Cole always succeeds in delivering a great story with raw emotions that will leave you going through a whole box of tissues. She has officially become my favorite adult contemporary author (Nora Roberts is my favorite in the paranormal genre). I started reading the Beautifully Broken series when I got an ARC of If You Leave, and I enjoyed reading it. That’s when I purchased ebook copies of the rest of the series. You know how there is always a book in a series that you enjoy reading more than the rest? For me, it was/is Before We Fall. This story is about a man, Dominic, who went through something devastating in his life and has scarred him so much that he doesn’t get attached to people, especially women. He goes through them like a book lover goes through books (yes, it is a lot, my friends). He doesn’t care if he hurts them or not.Enter Jacey, a sweet, down-to-earth girl, who gets intrigued by Dominic and wants to find out more about him. They start a type of friends with benefit relation. But Dominic has Demons he has to face and the sexual things that attract Dominic are things that seem weird to Jacey but still, she understands the want and need he has for those acts because she feels it too, even though she doesn’t want to admit that to herself. If you read If You Leave, you know she has a horrible background of boyfriends, so Dominic is someone she doesn’t need, not when he isn’t fixed yet but she wants to help him restore himself. Not only does Dominic has sexual-related demons. He went through something so traumatic, the reader is TOTALLY blindsided and if you say you saw it coming, you lie. It definitely took me so much by surprise. I thought the attitude he had was a horrible one and his past doesn’t justify what he does to women but you know it is a huge bargain to carry. I was shocked when I read what he went through. Not only was his past a terrible one but then for him to find out that what he had believed in was a lie and something else had happened, that was the peak for me of the story. I was expecting to hear a tun-tun-tun in the background because of how intense and shocking it was. I wasn’t prepared. It. Blows. You. Away. I was sad and devastated but I didn’t cry. Afterwards, everything was okay and Jacey was there to help him through everything. Then I read the epilogue. I got goosebumps reading it and I started bawling like a little kid. I was lost for a moment because something had happened in the beginning of the book but so much had happened that I had forgotten about it and in the epilogue it is mentioned and once again, Courtney Cole blows your mind away. The ending was the most perfect ending I have read in a contemporary novel. I love it so much. The feels are hitting me full force right now, remembering everything I read and what I experienced while reading this book.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: New adult romance that had steamy romance and some interesting twists. Unfortunately, I had a hard time with the characters and in the end this book just wasn’t for me.Opening Sentence: The slap can be heard all the way down the beach. The Review:Jacey Vincent has had a rough few years. With a string of heartbreaking mistakes that caused her more pain than anyone should know in a life time, she has finally decided to change her life. No more bad boys that will just bring her down, no more relying on her brother to save her, and no more floundering in her own life. Well, this is easier said than done, but Jacey is doing pretty well until she meets the gorgeous Dominic Kinkaide.Dominic is a superstar and loved by everyone in the movie business. His movies are always a huge success and it seems he has found his calling in life to pretend to have a different life since his own is so messed up. There was one moment years ago that changed his life forever and he has never been able to forgive himself. He feels that there are no honestly good people in this life that deserve any of his time, but then he meets Jacey. Her sweet demur and strong will make him feel things that he hasn’t in a really long time.Jacey is just your average girl that falls for the broken boy. She is actually very ordinary, which I think was what the author was going for since Dominic is trying to find some sort of normalcy in his crazy superstar life, unfortunately this also made her a boring character. There was nothing about her that stood out as someone I would really want to get to know or care about. Yes she was a sweet girl and I felt bad that she has had a rough life, but in the end, I found that she was very forgettable.Dominic is not your average bad boy. There are true horrors in his past that anyone would have a hard time getting past, but he has turned into a cynical person that keeps everyone at arms length. He doesn’t let anyone in and he torchers himself everyday over his past. Normally I love the broken bad boys in books, but Dominic just didn’t do it for me. I felt that his jerk side far outweighed any of his good characteristics and that made it hard for me to like him. While he did redeem himself towards the end, it was just not enough for me to really make a connection with him. This was a really hard read for me and in the end it just wasn’t for me. I wasn’t expecting this book to be so erotica and personally I’m not a huge fan of that genre. I like steamy romance but when it starts to get into the weird kinky stuff, that is just not my thing. I will say that Cole did manage to surprise me with the plot, which I really have to commend her for because that is hard to do in a contemporary novel. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but this stood on its own just fine. This is the only book I have read by Cole and to be honest, I liked her writing and would be interested in possibly trying some of her other work if it was in a genre that I enjoy. I do want to say that even though this book obviously was not for me, I do think that there will be people that will love it. If you are a fan of the series or like this type of romance then by all means, I think you should give this one a try.Notable Scene:I know it’s stupid to say. But his gaze is that intense. It’s like he can see inside of me, deep into my most private thoughts, into where my secrets lie. But then his shoulders drop and his face turns expressionless.“I’m sorry,” he says simply. He looks away, like a camera lens shuttering closed. Like I don’t even exist to him, like I’m beneath him and not worth a second glance. The fire has been extinguished. He nods at his escorts and they continue on, walking toward freedom while I’m still stuck in here. Because of him.“Wait,” I call out after them. “Just a second. I don’t belong here!” But they ignore me and keep walking, and I shut the hell up because I’m not going to beg.Dominic fucking Kinkaide got us both arrested and then he gets bailed out within half an hour, just because he’s a freaking celebrity. And he left me here to fucking rot.FTC Advisory: Forever/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of Before We Fall. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Oh, the pain, the tears… the words. painfully captivatingWow!! Yep, this book is by far, the best one of the year. I could not put it down, and I wanted more even when I finished!I am so sad our local libraries doesn’t even have Courtney Cole, much less the beginning of the series, because I totally would load up on the other 2 books!Dominic is so dark, mysterious, but he has so many walls up. Jacey knows something is bothering Dominic before he even tells her. She can read him like a book, and she is so sweet. Before We Fall had me in tears, and I was fighting for everything. The story had me on the edge of my seat, squeezing tissues, putting my book down to clear my eyes so I could continue reading. However, these were not bad tears. These tears was tears of happiness, watching walls being torn down, frustration, and watching emotions fly across the pages. There was even parts where I caught myself smiling.Jacey’s a powerful person, her will to give, and her passion is something that we should all live for. Jacey continues to push through life through the number of odds that was set out against her. However, she still smiled, loved surprises, and wanted to help everyone she could. When Dominic and Jacey get together it is like immediately attraction, you can feel the “spark” before you even take off through the rest of the book. That “spark” only gets better as Jacey and Dominic intertwine through their own emotions, and heartache.I completely will tell you to give this book a try! I am going to find the rest of the series, and I bet you will be looking for those books too! Now go, go, and Happy Reading!

Hmmmm where to start this. Well how about my first favorite of this book. Life is scary and dreams get broken. This book is for anyone brave enough to put the pieces back together again. And I think those 2 sentences set the entire feel of the book. After reading If You Stay, I was hooked. Everyone talked about how the first chapter of that book would grab you and for me it didn’t even take the first chapter. One again Courtney did that, with just the first paragraph of the first chapter. l didn’t think anyone could top boy Pax, he was well jus so Pax. Wow, how wrong was I. Dominic Kinkaide, was tortured, raw, and broken in so many ways. (and don’t think his name is lost on me) Not only was he damaged by his past, but he continued to live out broken pieces again and again. Never ever relinquishing himself of the punishment that he thought he was deserved. Jacey well we all came to love or hate her in If You Leave. In real life, when people walk on ice for to long, they finally break through. And when that happens, someone drownsMe personally I loved her. She was always trying to do the right thing for others no matter the cost to herself and boy oh boy did she cost herself a lot in the process. But she is now determined to not be the same person she once was. She was done falling for the users and losers. So when she finds herself in jail for not only possession but assaulting a police officer she knows its time to steer clear of Dom. But Fate, well she has another thing in mind when they are thrown together. And have to decide, do they actually hate one another or are they just to broken to even begin to try anything. Don’t love me, he says simply. Or I’ll break you. I wont want to, but it will happenAnd then there is Brand, and yes I’m pretty sure we all swooned after him in the last book, but Brand is confusion at its best, not only is he that he is safe. In this book, you will think you know what is happening, and in some sense you will but once again just when I thought the book would twist, it would turn. Courtney has done a fabulous job with this story. I know when I finished If You Leave this was not the direction that I thought Jacey’s story was going. And then I’m hit with this book and I’m glad she (Courtney) is doing the writing because I was so off the mark. Even still a week later as I write this review I am still stunned by the beauty of this book. So with that my last sentence should be this question. Do you like this book? Yes or No?Me Like, nope I LOVE this book! ✯Jammie *ARC provided by for an honest review*
