About this audiobook
A stunning debut thriller about a code that threatens humanity - and the only man can crack it.
William Sandberg, once a well-respected military cryptologist pursuing cutting-edge research, is a ruined man. His career is in shambles, his marriage is over, and he's succumbed to a dark depression.
But William's talents haven't gone unnoticed. A nameless, top-secret organization abducts him and tasks him with a daunting mission: decode a message that will reveal the disastrous prophecies hidden in our DNA before it is too late.
Meanwhile, William's ex-wife Christina is haunted by his absence and suspects there is more to his disappearance than just the reclusive impulse of a depressed man. Driven by her hunch, she sets out to find him and joins an eclectic cast of characters all drawn to a mysterious chateau in the Alps where the secret organization is plotting something-but is it revenge? Or a rescue mission? What is the organization hiding? What does the code have to do with the potent virus suddenly spreading around the world? And can William uncover the truth before it's too late?
A thrilling novel about humanity on the verge of crisis, taking readers from the streets of Berlin and Stockholm to a chateau in the Alps, Chain of Events explodes and then reconfigures the ties that bind us to one another: marriage, politics, and our DNA.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5slow and draggy. wished the pace was a tad bit faster
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well written, creative interesting premise, engaging or hair-raising but not action. Too long.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very promising author and quite respectable debut novel. Well done!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it. Was a slow build up, but as the train started moving on the tracks, there was no stopping it as momentum built up. Unique style. Didn't really appreciate it until near the end, when, like so many things, it all started to come together.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Thr book was a little too predictable and cliche for me. ia If you don't or haven't read too many action stories then this book is good.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book had so many twists and turns it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It is a definite must read, if you love suspenseful scifi literature.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a fascinating take on the popular fictional topic of 'So, if the world as we know it ended, what would it be like?'
The characters, both male and female, are so well-developed I finished the book thinking I really know these people.
The common disaster story plot contains a couple of brilliantly devised and executed twists.
I recommend this as a page/turner - or reel spinner! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I have read in a while. The start is slow but the detail is important to the story line. The descriptions painted pictures. I could clearly see every thing. This author is now my one of my favorite.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It kind of dragged on for me, wouldn’t recommend it
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So this book was much more dialog about the premise than actual actions by the characters. I enjoyed it but if you are looking for action this isn't the best book for that. It took a long time for the premise to be fully revealed. This also isn't a book that ties up all the storylines at the end. Some are left unresolved for the reader to ponder.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great Read, I kept going back to listen to more.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was really good! It was a perfect choice for me to read since I like sci-fi, thrillers, and books about medicine. I got really into it and couldn't put it down! It kept me interested and always wondering what would happen next. I felt so bad for the kidnapped people and their loved ones. I can't imagine going through what they did. I also felt bad for the people who got that awful virus. It sounds like a horrible way to die! I really didn't expect the book to end the way it did. It really surprised me, but not in a bad way. I would say why it surprised me, but that would give away too much, so I won't. If you like sci-fi or thrillers, I definitely recommend this book!

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I found the book to be very wordy. Places and items described in way too much detail and they had very little to do with the plot. Now the plot, interesting start but to have the main character finish off what he started to do was wrong. After what he had been through should have showed him what life was worth.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Fast paced but unfortunately very weak
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The StoryWe all knew that it would come to this, but we didn't expect it to happen so soon. The Organisation have been toiling over the operation for years, with each passing day showing no sign of improvement over the situation. From the day they made the discovery, they knew they had to do everything possible to try and reverse what was destined for humankind. They've kidnapped, murdered, tricked and planned - nothing is above them, for it is all for the greater good of the race as a whole, is it not? Yet, no one expected it to come down to these two, brilliant, yet unmotivated individuals. Sure, they are the best in their field, but they constantly fight the system, maybe because they were brought against their will, but surely they agree that it is the only option, to save us all -a few must suffer. Then it happened, the outbreak. We had seen it's affects, on those we had run tests on, and even on our own - when mistakes happened. We didn't expect her to break protocol, leaving the contamination to spread like wildfire throughout Amsterdam. Now it's only a matter of time until it is out of control. We may be too late already. The two haven't had enough time. They need to be able to work out the code, in order to save us. They need motivation. We need safety. We need more time. Or is it already too late? The future was always written, but will we end up being our own worst enemy? What chance have we got against something that can't be beaten? There are two. They are left alone in the Organisation and we all need them. Need them to save us and find the key. What I ThoughtI can easily see why this book was snatched up, in order to be made into a film! It is so good. Each page is action-packed, filled with enough detail and thrill to wind you up so much the anticipation could set you off like a top. I found it very hard to put this book down. I HAD to know the next detail. What were the two going to do? Was it all a hoax? Where they working for the good guys? What on earth was happening!!! My mind was racing through each paragraph, wondering and guessing at what may be happening, only to find that I was blown away again by the realisation of where the story was going. I found that the pace was excellent. It moved swiftly enough to give you a good edge, as any good thriller should do. Yet, it still gave way to enough time for details to be put into place. The author also took the time to build emotions and characters, by involving personal disasters and details. The characters also had a brilliant amount of depth, and we even found ourselves delving into their past, to discover why they behaved in some of the ways they do. The layout of the story was perfect, keep you involved in both the details of the organisation and the outside world. It gave you a great level of perspective and kept you involved in the timeframe. Plus, there were great little events that still tied the Organisation and the world together, keeping the two intertwined, in more than just outcome. I also liked the mentality and reasoning behind both the story and the thought processes of the main characters. The level of detail and, therefore, believability was very high. OVERALL: I loved this book. It is set to be made into a major film, but i would highly highly recommend reading this book before seeing it on film. (still do both, trust me) However, I feel that the level of detail and excellent writing style mean that this book will far outweigh the film, in brilliance. I would recommend this to anyone, age 16 and over, in my opinion, who likes a good thriller, especially if you are into Michael Chrichton and the likes. You won't regret this read.
