Описание

The #1 national bestseller about a famous novelist held hostage by his "number one fan" and suffering a frightening case of writer's block-that could prove fatal. One of "Stephen King's best…genuinely scary" (USA TODAY).

Paul Sheldon is a bestselling novelist who has finally met his number one fan. Her name is Annie Wilkes, and she is more than a rabid reader-she is Paul's nurse, tending his shattered body after an automobile accident. But she is also furious that the author has killed off her favorite character in his latest book. Annie becomes his captor, keeping him prisoner in her isolated house.

Annie wants Paul to write a book that brings Misery back to life-just for her. She has a lot of ways to spur him on. One is a needle. Another is an axe. And if they don't work, she can get really nasty.

"Terrifying" (San Francisco Chronicle), "dazzlingly well-written" (The Indianapolis Star), and "truly gripping" (Publishers Weekly), Misery is "classic Stephen King...full of twists and turns and mounting suspense" (The Boston Globe).

One of King's finest. Easy to listen to. Clear. Animated reader. A classic to visit over and over again.

Great read. Loved the actress - she was fantastic! Very thrilling book.

This book was every bit as good as I expected it to be. I'm looking forward to watching the movie now that I've read the book. I remember watching the movie when I was younger, but I don't remember much about it. The narration by Lindsay Crouse was absolutely excellent. Her work with Annie's voice was very similar to Kathy Bates voice, which was cool. All in all, the book was excellent. Very close to being 5 stars. Had the ending been a little better, I would have definitely given it a full 5 stars.

Have read the book, I watched the movie, and now I've listened to the audiobook. Somehow, every time, I forget how it ends , so every time, I love it all over again.

After seeing the film so many times before and loving it I finally decided to check out the book. I wasn't exactly prepared for Anne Wilke's true viciousness, great read

Awesome book, so well written. My first time reading King and I was not disappointed

The story was pretty good. I felt like the narrator had a nice voice, however she could have been a bit more animated with the characters. Some times I felt like I was listening to a bedtime story...

Great story and storyteller. So far one of my favorite King novels.

Awesome audiobook, the narrator was perfect in my opinion. Captivated me the entire time! Gonna watch the movie now

This was intensely great. Much, much greater then the movie!!! Wanted to read a Stephen King book that wasn’t demonic and he lived up to the hype!

This is the one & only time I would recommend watching the movie first, otherwise the book will seem very slow when, in fact, it is more detailed in some scenes. If i had read the book first, I don't know that I would have finished it but, having seen the movie, I knew what to expect in regards to pace. I was also able to catch the more vivid details in the book that were toned down for the movie which i otherwise would not have played much attention to. Also, Kathy Bates was the absolute perfect "Annie" and once you have seen her performance, the book is infinitely better!

I really enjoyed the movie as I have read the book when I saw it yesterday ago. The book - wow - is over the top!

Awesome audiobook, so thrilling and I absolutely loved the narration!

The narration is fabulous. What a wonderful way to revisit “old friends.”

All I can say is that this book was amazing. This was my first Stephen King novel, and it was such a good introduction to his work. I was at the edge of my seat through most of it.

Wonderful. I couldn't stop listening. Will reccomend to others .

I have never experienced such intense dread in literary form. Part of this is brought about by King's wonderful use of precedent and misdirection, but also by Lindsay Crouse. She brings Annie to stark, terrifying life.

The book is a classic Stephen King thriller. The chimes are annoying. The narrator was good. Her voice is very similar to Cathy Bates, the actress who plays her part in the movie adaptation of the book.

I have enjoyed Mr. King's work since I read Salem's Lot. Misery is a psychological wonderr in the darkness of a disturbed mind. I recommend this book especially for those who like King's talent but disllike supernatural themes. Annie Wilkes is a monster of a familiar order, a human being. Enjoy!

Excellent story, but I wish the reader didnt read with such a repetitive melody, or read Annie's lines with a Kathy Bates impression.

Terrifying book! I've read this every two or three years since it was published, but now some time has passed. The narrator Lindsay Crouse does a fantastic job as Annie Wilkes! The first time Annie lost her cockadoodie temper I jumped! Paul Sheldon and Annie Wilkes are two characters you will never, ever forget.
